How to close a group for viewing on Steam. Steam account with new privacy settings: what and where you can configure

If you don't want other users to see your profile, you can easily hide it.

    • Go to the official Steam website or launch the service client;
    • Log in to your account by entering your username and password;
    • Open your profile and click “Edit Profile”;
    • Now go to the “Privacy Settings” menu;

  • Select your profile status and click “Save Changes.” Please note that even if your profile is hidden, users will be able to find it online and see your nickname history (read how to clear it).

Before you hide your profile, decide what exactly you want to get. If you need to hide your account only from strangers, then in the settings select “Only to friends.” If you want no one to see your profile except you, then select “Hidden”. To make your profile visible to all users again, check the “Public” checkbox.

You can also limit who can leave comments for you or see your inventory in your privacy settings. Everything is done in the same way.

Why hide your profile

There may be several reasons. Here are the most popular ones:

  • You do not want other users to see your country of residence, your name, how many games you have, your avatar and achievements when playing;
  • After the game, various nasty things are written in the comments to your profile, which you are tired of deleting;
  • Are you tired of receiving messages about exchanging items? Once you hide your inventory, other users will not be able to see what items you have;

How to view a user's inventory if his profile is hidden

To do this, this user must be on your friends list. Go to his profile, click “More” and then “Offer Trade...”. After this, a window with your items will fly out. Click on the "Their Inventory" tab, after which you will be able to see all of the user's belongings, including trading cards and in-game items. This method only works if it is the Steam profile that is hidden, and not its inventory.

Valve Software has announced an update to the system for protecting personal data of users of the Steam gaming platform. Now every user can make their Steam account a little more confidential...

... and in particular provide other users with access to their game profile, game library, inventory, etc.

But most importantly, now the user's profile is in can you do " Hidden " or visible " Only for friends «.

In terms of data confidentiality, the innovation, of course, looks significant. On the other hand, this also means that useful services such as, say, Steam Spy, automatically become useless (for now, at least). Because they worked on the basis of open user data. But that’s not about that now. And about that...

...how to set up profile privacy via Steam account

There seems to be nothing complicated, but at first some points are a little puzzling, and besides, the privacy settings are in a separate section, outside the main ones “ Settings» account. Therefore, in order:

how to open the privacy settings section:
  • launch the Steam client on the computer (wait for it to download the duty update) and log in;
  • Click on the nickname in the upper right corner of the client window and select “ View profile «;
  • In the next window, click the button “ Edit profile " and then - " My privacy settings «.

The new section currently looks like this:

The settings available to the user are presented in the following range:

  • « My profile "—visibility of the user profile (by default " Open«);
  • « Game details "—visibility of game parameters (by default " Only for friends"), you can immediately activate the option “Always keep the total playtime private” (Always hide the total time in games);
  • « Inventory " - visibility of "Inventory" (by default " Only for friends") with the option "Always keep Steam Gifts private" (Always hide gifts on Steam);
  • « Can post comments on my profile " (default " Only for friends") - here you can specify who can leave comments on the profile, or prohibit them altogether (option " Hide«).

Changing the “My Profile” setting automatically changes all settings. Those. if in " My profile “You specify, for example, “Hidden”, then everything else will also be “Hidden”. But if you leave your profile as “Public”, then by default all other parameters will be visible only to your friends, unless you separately specify “Public” or “Hidden” for each.

Briefly about the basic privacy settings:

My Profile : Visibility of Steam profile data, friends list, badges, level, comment and list of groups you are a member of;

Game Details : Visibility of the list of games in your account, “Wishlist”, achievement list, , as well as your current status on Steam (Away or In Game and the name of the game you are currently playing).

Inventory : Visibility of your Inventory, including the list of items you have received in games, the list of Steam Trading cards you have, and the list of Steam Gifts.

In addition, in the section " My privacy settings“There are also two more options that the user is not supposed to change. “My basic details” (user data) contains your game nickname and avatar - they are always open and accessible to everyone. And the visibility of each individual screenshot or work in the workshop is already assigned separately in the corresponding sections of the client.

Valve also noted that they are now working on an even new “invisibility” mode for user profiles. In this mode, the player will be displayed to outsiders simply as “offline”, however, the main functionality of the client will be available, in particular, it will be possible to send messages through your Steam account as usual.

Very often there are situations when, while playing Dota 2, we want to see someone’s profile, but it turns out to be hidden. Most often, this is necessary for traders who are looking for something interesting in their inventory, or simply to add them as friends. The motives may be different, but often we see this sign:

In this article, you will learn how to bypass this sign and view a hidden profile in two ways. These methods will work until Valve changes the menu in Shift-Tab, that is, at least for a very long time.

Method one:
In this way we can look at the hidden profile we are interested in right during the game
1) During the game, press Shift+Tab (Open the Steam menu in the game)
2) Here click View Players or List of Players

3) The window that opens will show all the players who are in the same game with you, look for the player we are interested in and click on the Profile button.

4) Look at the player’s profile. But his profile may be hidden by privacy settings!

Method two:
With this method we will have to wait until the game ends. Also, the method only works if the profile owner logged into dotabuff
1) Find our game on
2) Go to the profile of the person we need.
3) Scroll down the page and click on the link next to the inscription ALIASES (in the Russian version of dotabuff - “NICKNAMES”)
4) And there will be a link and id to your Steam account.

Please note, if you want to conduct a transaction with this user, that he is blocked.

In order to implement everything in this article, we need the following:

1. Android device or emulator

2. Root rights. Root rights can be obtained using various rooting programs. There is a lot of information on root rights on the Internet, Google it.

3. Any file manager that has access to the root of the file system. I'm using Total Commander. Link:

Please Login or Register to see links.

Please Login or Register to see links.

Please Login or Register to see links.

6. Steam profile ID. It can be found out in different ways, usually it is in the address bar when we go to the person’s profile.

Let's start...
Download all programs and install. After everything is installed, go to the Steam client and log in using your Steam username and password.

Now we close our Steam, we don’t need it yet.

We need the ID of the person whose profile we will be viewing, it won’t be difficult to get it: go to the person’s profile and take the ID from the address bar, or Google how to find out the steam profile ID.
Example ID: 76561198102889217 (Only numbers, nothing else!)

Well, I'll show you how to take your friend's ID using the SQLite Editor Master program. This is just an example, it is not necessary to take the ID in this way, unless, of course, you want to play a trick on a friend (like you are logged into his account).

Open SQLite Editor Master, it requires root rights - allow it. Next, we go to the "Apps" tab, look for our Steam there, click on it, open the folder
DataBase

Click on the file SteamLocal.db

Open the personas table (two clicks)

Well, here we already have a list of our friends and their IDs (on the left)

We select and remember the one you need.

Now let's get down to the most basic thing - "fake login" and viewing the profile on behalf of the person you want to view.

Go to Total Commander and go to the root of the file system.

Go through the folders data→data
Here we look and go to the folder com.valvesoftware.android.steam.community

There is a login.json file in this folder, open it.

In this file we change the existing (your) ID to the ID of the profile we need.
You can open this file with the editor that is built into our file manager, just hold your finger on the file and click edit.

Save the file.

Almost ready..
Now you just need to open our Steam client. Before opening Steam, first shut it down through settings→application→steam→stop.

Let's launch Steam.. and... Hurray! We "logged in" under someone else's account.

Now we can view the entire profile as if we were logged into his account. Thus, we can view absolutely any profile, inventory, games, groups, etc.

Important: if you go to the account information, where it shows our balance, guard, etc., then nothing will work for you - it will give an error, because the authorization tokens do not match.
We only partially gained access to the account - this is not a hack.

This is a seemingly difficult method, but in fact and in practice, it is quite primitive.

Thank you for your attention!
