Some users are not satisfied with the default mouse cursor available in Windows 10.

Some say that it is too small, others that it is too simple and gets lost in the landscape, others want it animated or in a different color.

If you want to change the mouse cursor in Windows 10, read this guide.

Then you will learn how you can change the size and color of the cursor using the standard options offered by the operating system.

Change mouse cursor size and color in Control Panel

One way to configure this is to use . In the control panel, select the "accessibility" section.

There, find the line “change mouse settings” and click on it to open a window where you can configure it.

A window named “Make your mouse easier to use” will open. There you will find a list of options to configure.

You can choose from three different colors and three different sizes for each color.

The third choice changes the effect - the pointer changes depending on the color the cursor is on.

Once you've selected the optimal settings you want to use, click OK to apply the changes.

Change mouse cursor size and color in application settings

The second method is especially suitable for devices with touch screens, using the Windows 10 system settings.

The fastest way to open Settings is to press the Windows + I keys.

Once the app opens, click on the “accessibility” section.

In the left column, click on the mouse. On the right side you will see three sections: changing size, changing color and changing mouse from keyboard.

The first two allow you to change the size and color using one of three options for each section.

Choose which ones you want. After making changes, close the settings application and the changes will be activated immediately, without having to click on the “Save” button.

The pointer is one of the things on the Windows 10 desktop that you need to constantly keep an eye on.

For this reason, it is a good idea to change it so that it is clearly visible on the screen.

As you can see in this article, this process is very easy to do in Windows 10 - using the old classic Control Panel or the new built-in tools. Good luck.

    how to change the mouse size\

    The other day, sitting at my laptop, I realized that I needed to add a little variety, otherwise everything was already boring. Changed the wallpaper :). But this seemed to me not enough and I began to look for something else to transform it. Since I don’t like all sorts of programs that change the appearance of the operating system, I decided to simply change the mouse cursor and set it to black, like in Mac OS. This is what my cursor looks like now:

    Beautiful, isn't it? I like it better than the standard white Windows cursor, which has already become boring. I changed not only the main pointer view, but also the background view, link hover view, etc.

    Now I’ll show you and tell you how I changed it all. I think it will be useful to you and you will also add a little freshness to your computer.

    First, we need to decide which set of pointers you want to change your cursor to. You need to download the set of pointers that you like. This is usually an archive containing files with the extension .cur. These are cursors.

    Download a set of cursors first. You can simply type, for example, in Google the query “cursors for windows 7”, I checked there :). Or here is a link to the archive with the pointers that I have installed -.

    We need files that are in the archive (and in my archive also in the Cursors folder) copy to folder C:\Windows\Cursors.

    Copied? Great, let's continue.

    Let's go to Start, Control panels. Switch viewing to Large icons and choose Mouse.

    A window will open in which we go to the tab “Pointers”. We select the pointer we need, for example first “Main Index” and press the button Review… The folder C:\Windows\Cursors will open immediately (to which we have already copied our new pointers). Highlight the desired pointer and press the button Open.

    You will see that one pointer has changed. Do this for all the other pointers, or just the ones you want to change.

    A computer mouse is the most commonly used working tool. If when working with documents or on the Internet the most shabby mouse is enough, then for manipulating graphic images in Photoshop or playing dynamic shooters this will no longer be enough. The lack of DPI is taking its toll. What is mouse DPI? How to set it up? This is what we will try to understand in this material. Let's start with the basics and a little "educational education". Because it is important to understand the essence of the problem before getting into the settings.

    What is DPI and what does it affect?

    So, DPI is Dots Per Inchs. In other words, this is the number of points that the mouse cursor covers with minimal movement. That is, DPI measures the sensitivity of the mouse. And this is a very important parameter in games and graphic editors. It is necessary to know the DPI of the mouse and how to set it, because the efficiency in the game and productivity in work directly depend on it. There is nothing to do with that mouse that crawls like a turtle in online shooters and action games. The sensitivity of the manipulator is a very important parameter.

    The most common office mice have only one sensitivity level - about 1000 DPI. More advanced models can have 3500, 6000 and even 12000 DPI. But these are all specialized with high sensor resolution and an impressive amount of DPI. How do I set it up on these mice? Many have a special button for this. Others provide this opportunity only when using special software. In any case, you can adjust DPI only on a mouse that supports this function. There is no other way.

    Configuration using standard Windows tools

    How to adjust mouse DPI using Windows operating system? Yes, there is such an option. But, strictly speaking, sensitivity is adjustable only within certain limits. The mouse cannot jump higher than its head. So, to configure we need to go to the “Control Panel”, then to “Mouse” and find “Pointer Movement Speed” there. Adjusting this setting through trial and error can increase the mouse's sensitivity. But the main thing is not to overdo it. Otherwise, the pointer will fly around the screen like crazy.

    Strictly speaking, with this configuration method, it is not the hardware data of the mouse that changes, but its system parameters. The mouse remains the same as it was. But this “placebo effect” can help at first (before purchasing a normal gaming mouse). The "Control Panel" is one of those places where you can adjust the mouse DPI without any problems. Even though the hardware sensitivity of the mouse has absolutely nothing to do with it.

    Setup on the A4Tech X7 mouse

    How to adjust DPI of X7 mouse? Many novice users ask this question because they cannot find anything similar to adjusting the sensitivity in the official software from the manufacturer. Everything is simple here. On the body of the X7 mouse there is an inconspicuous oval black button. It is located on the top of the body. It is this button that is responsible for changing the sensitivity of the device. Clicking this button can increase the DPI to 6000. And this is a completely different level.

    X7 is a gaming mouse. Therefore, the presence of such an option is not surprising. But even some budget mice are capable of having such a feature. Some not particularly gaming models also have such a button. This is very convenient, since you can work with documents at one sensitivity level, and as soon as the game is launched, you can immediately turn on a higher level. Now we know everything about how to adjust the DPI of the X7 mouse. No one should have any problems finding the “magic button”.

    Setting up the A4Tech Bloody mouse

    The Bloody series belongs to the top gaming devices. This means that it already has a pretty decent sensitivity parameter. However, not everyone is happy with it. How to set DPI Only using specialized software that comes with the mouse. In the mouse settings you need to find the "Sensitivity" tab. When you click on it, a window with many settings will open. But we are only interested in DPI. That's what we'll look for.

    In the required window we need to set the amount of DPI that we currently need. After that, click on the “OK” or “Apply” button. It is advisable to restart your computer after making changes. After this, the mouse sensitivity will be changed. As you can see, it is very easy to change the mouse DPI. We have already discussed how to configure the Bloody series mouse.

    If you go too far with DPI

    Of course, increasing mouse sensitivity is a good thing. But it also does not tolerate careless treatment. Fanaticism is not acceptable here, because this is not a case where more is better. You need to focus on your feelings. If you raise the DPI to unattainable heights, then it will become impossible to use the mouse. At the slightest movement of the manipulator, the cursor will jump from one corner of the screen to another. Therefore, you need to add sensitivity little by little. If you see that the cursor is behaving inappropriately, then lower the sensitivity. Only through trial and error can you achieve an ideal result.

    The easiest way to adjust the amount of DPI is using special software that comes with the mouse. There is a special window there to check the sensor resolution you are trying to apply. So you can test this sensitivity. Too much sensitivity can also negatively affect the performance of the sensor itself. And this is a completely different level of danger. So be careful with your experiments.

    Conclusion

    So, we have looked at what mouse DPI is, how to configure it, and what the consequences of not following basic safety rules when playing games with mouse sensitivity are. Remember, changing DPI is supported only by those mice that have this option built into the hardware. There is no way without this.

    If you experience any malfunctions or glitches with your mouse, this article will help you. Let's look at the main ways to configure a computer mouse.

    To configure the mouse, you first need to go to the control panel.

    Then select " Equipment and sound"select the sub-item " Mouse».

    The menu “ Mouse properties».

    Here you can see the main parameters of the mouse.

    In the " Buttons» You can configure the assignment of the right and left mouse buttons for right-handers and left-handers, respectively.

    Where " Double click speed", by moving method " scales» You can select the speed at which you press the mouse buttons.

    In the " Signposts"You can select the type of so-called " arrows" In this case, “” is the default. You can choose an option to suit your taste.

    IN " Pointer Options“You can specify at what speed the “arrow” or pointer will move across the screen, and also whether the pointer icon will leave a trace behind.

    Tab " Wheel" allows you to select options " Vertical scroll", that is, the number of clicks while scrolling the wheel, which will be responsible for the number of scrolled lines.

    “Horizontal scrolling” - honestly, I have no idea. My mouse did not provide such a function.

    Well, there are other tabs that are not useful for configuration. They provide general information about the equipment and its properties.

    Another option for setting up the mouse is the item in “ Accessibility» - « Changing mouse settings».

    Here you can select options for people with disabilities. For example, you can change the color of the pointer (arrow). Or, for example, control the mouse pointer using the keyboard.

    Many people like variety and originality, and PC users are no exception. In this regard, some users are not satisfied with the standard appearance of the mouse cursor. Let's figure out how to change it on Windows 7.

    You can change cursor pointers, like performing most other actions on a computer, in two ways: using third-party programs and using the built-in capabilities of the operating system. Let us consider in more detail the possibilities of solving the problem.

    Method 1: CursorFX

    First of all, let's look at methods using third-party applications. We’ll start the review with probably the most popular program for changing the cursor – CursorFX.

    1. After downloading the installation file for this program, you should install it. Activate the installer, in the window that opens you will need to accept the agreement with the developer by clicking "Agree".
    2. Next, you will be prompted to install an additional software product. Since we don’t need this, uncheck the box next to the inscription "Yes" and press "Next".
    3. Now you need to specify which directory you want to install the application in. By default, the installation directory is the standard program folder on disk C. We recommend that you do not change this parameter and click "Next".
    4. After clicking on the specified button, the application installation procedure will be performed.
    5. After its completion, the CursorFX program interface will open automatically. Go to section "My cursors" using the left vertical menu. In the central part of the window, select the shape of the pointer you want to install and click "Apply".
    6. If simply changing the shape does not satisfy you and you want to more precisely customize the cursor to your preferences, then go to the section "Options". Here by dragging the sliders in the tab "View" you can set the following settings:
      • Hue;
      • Brightness;
      • Contrast;
      • Transparency;
      • Size.
    7. In the tab "Shadow" In the same section, by dragging the sliders, it is possible to adjust the shadow cast by the pointer.
    8. In the tab "Options" You can adjust the smoothness of movement. After setting the settings, do not forget to press the button "Apply".
    9. Also in the section "Effects" You can select additional scenarios for displaying the pointer when performing a specific action. For this purpose in the block "Current Effects" select the action that will execute the script. Then in the block "Possible Effects" choose the script yourself. After selecting, click "Apply".
    10. In addition, in the section "Pointer Trail" You can select the trail that the cursor will leave behind when moving around the screen. After choosing the most attractive option, click "Apply".

    This method of changing cursors is probably the most variable of all the methods for changing the pointer that are presented in this article.

    Method 2: Create your own index

    There are also programs that allow the user to draw the cursor he wants. Such applications include, for example, RealWorld Cursor Editor. But, of course, this program is more difficult to master than the previous one.

    1. After downloading the installation file, run it. A welcome window will open. Click "Next".
    2. Next, you need to confirm your acceptance of the license terms. Set the radio button to position "I agree" and press "Next".
    3. In the next window, check the box next to "Support translations via language packs". This will allow you to install a set of language packs along with the installation of the program. If you do not perform this operation, the program interface will be in English. Click "Next".
    4. Now a window opens where you can select a folder to install the program. We advise you not to change the basic settings and just click "Next".
    5. In the next window, all that remains is to confirm the start of the installation procedure by clicking "Next".
    6. The RealWorld Cursor Editor installation process is in progress.
    7. After it is completed, a window will appear indicating successful completion. Click "Close" ("Close").
    8. Now launch the application in the standard way by clicking on its shortcut on the desktop. The main RealWorld Cursor Editor window opens. First of all, you should change the English-language application interface to the Russian-language version. For this purpose in the block "Language" click "Russian".
    9. After this, the interface will be changed to the Russian version. To proceed to creating an index, click on the button "Create" in the side menu.
    10. A window for creating an index opens, where you can choose which icon to create: a regular one or from a ready-made image. Let's choose, for example, the first option. Select an item "New cursor". On the right side of the window, you can select the canvas size and color depth of the icon to be created. Next click "Create".
    11. Now, using the editing tools, you draw your icon, following the same drawing rules as in a regular graphics editor. Once it is ready, click on the floppy disk icon on the toolbar to save it.
    12. The save window opens. Go to the directory where you want to save the result. You can use the standard Windows pointer folder for storage. This will make it easier to position the cursor in the future. This catalog is located at:

      C:\Windows\Cursors

      In the field "File name" Give your pointer a name. From the list "File type" select the desired file format option:

      • Static cursors (cur);
      • Multilayer cursors;
      • Animated cursors, etc.

      Then apply "OK".

    The pointer will be created and saved. How to install it on your computer will be discussed when considering the next method.

    Method 3: Mouse Properties

    You can also change the cursor using system capabilities via "Control Panel" in mouse properties.

    1. Click "Start". Go to "Control Panel".
    2. Select section "Equipment and Sound".
    3. Go by item "Mouse" in the block "Devices and Printers".
    4. The mouse properties window opens. Move to the tab "Pointers".
    5. To select the appearance of the pointer, click on the field "Scheme".
    6. A list of different cursor appearance schemes opens. Select your desired option.
    7. After selecting an option in the block "Settings" The appearance of the cursor of the selected scheme will be displayed in various situations:
      • Main mode;
      • Selecting help;
      • Background mode;
      • Busy, etc.

      If you are not satisfied with the presented appearance of the cursor, then change the scheme again to another, as shown above. Do this until you find an option that satisfies you.

    8. In addition, you can change the appearance of the pointer inside the selected diagram. To do this, select the setting ( "Basic mode", "Choose help" etc.) for which you want to change the cursor, and click on the button "Review…".
    9. A window for selecting an index in a folder opens "Cursors" in the directory "Windows". Select the cursor option that you want to see on the screen when installing the current scheme in the specified situation. Click "Open".
    10. The pointer will be changed within the schema.

      In the same way, you can add cursors with the extension cur or ani, downloaded from the Internet. You can also install pointers created in specialized graphic editors, such as the RealWorld Cursor Editor, which we talked about earlier. After the index has been created or downloaded from the network, the corresponding icon must be placed in the system folder at the following address:

      C:\Windows\Cursors

      Then you need to select this cursor, as described in the previous paragraphs.

    11. When you are satisfied with the resulting appearance of the pointer, in order to use it, click on the buttons "Apply" And "OK".

    As you can see, the mouse pointer in Windows 7 can be changed either using the built-in OS tools or by using third-party programs. The option using third-party software provides more opportunities for changes. Separate programs allow not only installation, but also creation of cursors through built-in graphic editors. At the same time, many users are satisfied with what can be done using internal OS tools for managing pointers.
