How to make a ringtone from a track. Ringdroid

There are many ways to make a ringtone, but not all of them are so simple and clear that they can be offered to novice users or those people who are not very interested in computer wisdom. There is a wonderful Ringdroid application that allows you not only to use any melody or song as a ringtone, but also to select any fragment of it yourself. When the ringtone is ready, you can set it as the main one or for a specific contact. AndroidPIT resource reviewer Loie Favre emphasizes Ringdroid's ease of use for novice users of the most popular mobile platform in the world.

First acquaintance with Ringdroid

General information about the Ringdroid ringtone editor
The Ringdroid ringtone maker app from developer Ringdroid Team can be downloaded from the Android App Store.

It is categorized under Multimedia & Video and was updated on August 23, 2012. A compatible version is installed on your device. The supported Android version varies by device. There are no age restrictions. The application has been downloaded between 10 million and 50 million times, which indicates that it is quite popular.

Many new Android smartphone users are discovering an amazing new world of things they can now do easily and easily. Everyone has their own favorite song. Many have more than one. And, if you really love the melody, then why not make it your ringtone? You might get tired of it over time, but you'll already know how to do it right on your Android mobile device using the Ringdroid app, which can be downloaded from the Google Play app store.

Ringdroid supports MP3, WAV, AAC and AMR audio files. Using the application, you can create not only ringtones, but also custom alarms and notification signals.

Preparing to create a ringtone
1. Download the song you are going to use as a ringtone on your mobile device.

2. Open the application and select a song from the list provided. An example would be the famous children's New Year's song “A Christmas tree was born in the forest.” Everyone has different tastes, everyone prefers a certain genre. Many people have favorite groups and performers. And only this song, familiar to everyone from childhood, is undoubtedly loved by representatives of different generations and connoisseurs of various musical styles. The choice of the example song is due to the fact that the quality of the composition should not distract from the main thing - getting to know the application.

Making a ringtone

1. Tapping a song in the list will open its audio graph. This chart features two sliders that you can move around the song. With their help, you select that fragment of the melody that will become your ringtone.

2. When you have selected a fragment, you can save the ringtone by touching the icon with the image of a retro floppy disk, which is often marked with the “Save” button. In the save dialog box there is a “Type” list, opening which you can select the signal type. You can change the file name before saving. You decide whether the ringtone you create will be a ringtone, a notification, music or an alarm. The saved ringtone is set as the default ringtone.

It is difficult to find a person indifferent to music. Even Google from ringtones and songs. But how appropriate are song fragments as phone ringtones? After all, everyone’s tastes are different, and everyone around you can hear the ringtone on the street and in transport. Maybe music is something that is better enjoyed personally, instead of “delighting” with your favorite compositions all passers-by who, perhaps, were not going to the concert at all?

How interested are you in being able to change ringtones? Or are standard melodies enough? Previously, when this feature had just appeared in phones, many people were addicted to constantly changing ringtones. Phone ringtones have become perhaps the most basic hobby of the younger generation. But only a few years have passed, and smartphones have acquired such capabilities that the ability to change the ringtone has faded somewhat.

It's quite easy to create a ringtone that can be set to an iPhone call. But the process is so complicated that when faced with it for the first time, many iPhone owners experience certain difficulties and do not understand how to do everything correctly.

In our opinion, this complexity is created artificially, although the process is extremely simple. Apple intentionally complicated the process of installing music on a call so that people would buy ready-made ringtones and bring money instead of cutting the music themselves.

For those who want to get their favorite ringtone for free, you should read this article, which is a step-by-step guide on how to create a ringtone from your favorite song.

On iPhone you can put any melody no longer than 40 seconds long, the file extension should be .m4r. There are four ways to make such a ringtone on iPhone:

Each of them has its own characteristics, we will analyze them below.

This manual only covers creating a ringtonefor iPhone. We will talk about how to set it to a call in another article: “How to set your own ringtone on iPhone.”

Buying a ringtone from the iTunes Store

This is the easiest way to get your favorite ringtone. There are many sounds available in the store for every taste, see the “Sounds” section. After purchase, the sound will automatically appear on the iPhone in the “Settings” - “Sounds” menu.

This method has two drawbacks: it requires money (one sound costs 19 rubles), plus the selection of ringtones in the store, although large, is limited - there may easily not be your favorite track.

How to make a ringtone for iPhone using iTunes

If you have a Mac, then the iTunes program comes bundled with the operating system, and, most likely, is already installed on the computer. If you are a Windows user, then you need to download and install the application. You can do this from the Apple website from here: apple.com/ru/itunes/download.

The entire process will be shown using the example of the latest version of iTunes 12.4 at the time of writing this instruction. In previous versions of the media player, the cutting process is slightly different - more on that below.

To begin, select your favorite track and transfer it to your media library, in this window (you can add it through the top “File” menu, or simply drag it with the mouse):

Pay attention to the panel on the left. You need to transfer with the mouse not to the “music” of the iPhone itself, but rather to the “songs” of the media library.

Next, you need to transcode the song into AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) format. If you have iTunes version 12.4 and higher, then select the desired song and go to the top menu “File” - “Convert” - “Create a version in AAC format”:

The original track will remain unchanged, and a copy will be created in AAC format.

If your media player version is younger than 12.4, then simply right-click on the track and select “Create version in AAC format.”

As a result, we see the following picture:

AAC format track has been created.

The duration of a ringtone for iPhone cannot be more than 40 seconds. So you have to choose your favorite part of the composition and trim the piece. Decide which 40-second part of the song you want to hear as a ringtone, right-click on the track, and select “Information” (for Mac, this is “Information”).

In the window that opens, go to the “Options” tab and change the beginning and end of the music segment so that it is no more than 40 seconds:

You can specify any beginning and end: for example, from 1:02 to 1:42, etc.

Click “Ok”, right-click on the created copy of the track and select “Open in Windows Explorer”, or “Show in Finder” if you have a Mac. The explorer with the track will open:

As you can see, the file has the extension .M4A. You need to change it to the extension .M4R (the difference is in the last letter) - to do this, right-click on the file, change the extension through “Properties”, and get a ready-made ringtone.

If you do not see the extension of the music file, then go to “Control Panel” - “Appearance and Personalization” - “Folder Options”. Here, on the “View” tab, uncheck the “Hide extensions for known file types” menu.

How to create a ringtone on iPhone

There are smartphone applications that allow you to cut ringtones from songs, for example. There are paid and free versions.

Some apps for making ringtones on iPhone.

You can select any application and use it. The essence of any program is the same: you are asked to load a music file into it and create a ringtone from it no more than 40 seconds long. The differences lie in the user-friendliness of the interface and additional track processing capabilities (increase/decrease volume). Some apps offer access to their music library.

If you express your desire in the comments, we will review the best paid and free applications for cutting ringtones.

Frankly, I've used Ringtonium for this all my life. Not an advertisement, just convenient, and I’m already used to it:

The peculiarity of this method is that in any case you will first have to add the song to the iPhone, then import it into the program and cut the ringtone. After this, you need to open iTunes and transfer the created ringtone to your iPhone. Without iTunes, nothing will work.

Using online services to create a ringtone

Similar sites offer to download a music file, trim and process it. The finished ringtone is downloaded to your computer and transferred to your iPhone via iTunes. The advantage of this method is that to cut a ringtone you only need a browser and an Internet connection.

There are quite a lot of services; it makes no sense to list them all. Enter “ringtones for iPhone online” in the search and get a complete list of sites.

The most popular portal is mp3cut.ru. Using his example, we will give the work of analogues.

The main page offers to download the track.

After downloading the music, it will appear like this. Here it is important to press the “Ringtone for iPhone” button. You can choose to fade out the melody at the beginning and/or end.

After clicking the “Cut” button, you can download the finished ringtone. It will be saved in the correct .m4r format.

It’s worth mentioning here that there are sites that offer downloads of ready-made ringtones for those who don’t want to cut them themselves. Among them is the VKontakte group vk.com/iringtone - there is a large selection there. But there are others, the search will help you.

That's all for today. Above we looked at 3 ways to create a ringtone from music for iPhone. The process itself is terribly inconvenient and is designed for the average person to go and buy a ringtone from the Apple store. But we are not looking for easy ways...

If you are unable to do something on your own, then we advise you to contact emergency computer help - pchelp24.com, reasonable prices, experienced specialists, free call and diagnostics.

Set a jazz ringtone as a ringtone on your phone (you can choose the music of your choice, be it rock, hip-hop or classical). With the help of the following tips, you can set a unique ringtone on your mobile phone.

Steps

We use online services

Go to the online ringtone maker site. There are many websites that allow you to upload a music file and select a portion of that file to create a ringtone. The best part is that all of these sites are completely free! You can use some of the most popular sites:

    • MakeOwnRingtone
    • Myxer
    • Mobile17
    • Audiko
  1. Download the song you are going to make a ringtone from. You can select a file from your computer. Some services allow you to specify a link to a file from cloud storage. Most services support all major file formats, including the following:

Select a fragment for the ringtone. After downloading the file, you will need to select the part of the song that you want to use as a ringtone. Most phones support ringtones up to 30 seconds long.

Select bitrate. Most ringtone creation services default to a lower bitrate than a standard audio file, since the sound quality of a mobile phone speaker is usually lower than that of headphones or stereo speakers. At the same time, the file size becomes smaller, but the quality remains at an acceptable level.

    • Typically the default value is 96 kbps, but you can increase this value. The sound quality of CDs is 320 kbps.
  2. Select a format. iPhone ringtones must be in M4R format, while most other mobile phones support MP3 format.

Select how to receive the file. Most services allow you to choose how to receive the file, for example, you can download the file to your computer, receive it by email, or download it directly to your mobile phone.

Download the file to your phone. If you choose to download the file directly to your phone, you can select a ringtone through the ringtone setup menu of your mobile device. If you chose the download option to your computer, you will need to copy the file to a specific directory on your phone:

    • For iPhone, copy the M4R file to the Ringtones library in iTunes. Sync the library with your phone and the ringtone will be added to the list of ringtones.
    • For Android phones, you need to connect your phone to your computer. Open your phone's memory card and go to the “media” folder. Open the “audio” folder or create it if it doesn’t exist. Finally, open or create a “ringtones” folder. Place the audio file in the “ringtones” folder.

    Using the application

    1. Download the app of your choice. For both iOS and Android, there are many free and paid ringtone maker apps available in their respective stores. Read user reviews to find the app that suits you best. You can take advantage of these great free apps:

Upload the song to the app. The method may vary depending on the application, but you can basically download any song from your phone. Such applications usually support all major audio file formats.

Select a piece of music for the ringtone. Once you have downloaded the song, you will need to set the start and end point of the ringtone. You may be given a choice of effects, such as fade-in or fade-out. Make sure that the start and end points do not cut off the sound so you can get a great ringtone.

Save the new ringtone to your phone. The Android app will automatically place the ringtone in the correct folder on your phone. Just click the Save or Install button and your ringtone will be added.

      • For the iOS platform, you need to connect your phone to your computer and download iTunes. The ringtone file will appear on the Common Files tab. Save the file to your computer and drag it back to the Ringtones section of your iTunes library. Sync your phone again and your ringtone will be ready to use.

    Using iTunes

    1. Open iTunes. The example shows how to use a section of a song as a ringtone, but you can use any audio file for this purpose. Import the audio file into iTunes. To do this, right-click on it and select "Open with... iTunes."

Select the file you want to use as a ringtone. You can choose any song from the library. Start playing the song and get ready to mark the start and end of the ringtone. iPhones mobile phones support ringtones up to 30 seconds long.

      • Remember the exact start and end time of the ringtone in minutes and seconds.
    2. Change the start and end times. Right-click on the file and select Information. Select the Options tab. Here you can set the start and end values. Select the desired time interval (leave a colon between minutes and seconds) and click OK.

Separate the new fragment from the original file. To do this, right-click on the file again and select Create AAC version. You now have two copies of the song of different lengths. The short version will be your ringtone.

      • Once you've created an AAC version of the file, click on the original song file and select Info, then return to the Options screen. Reset to play the entire song. To do this, set the start time to 0 and delete the playback end value.
    3. Right-click on the ringtone file and select View in Finder (or Show in Explorer). This should open a window containing both the ringtone file and the original file.

Change the ringtone format. If you are using an iPhone, the ringtone must be in M4R format. Right-click and choose Rename (Windows) or Shift-click the file (Mac). Just change the "a" (for audio) at the end of the title to "r" (for ringtone).

      • On a Mac, you must select "Use.m4r" when the confirmation dialog opens.
      • On a PC, when the confirmation dialog opens, you must select "Yes" to rename the file.
    4. Remove the AAC version of the file from iTunes. Go back to iTunes and delete the short version of the music file. Do not delete the original file. When the dialog box opens, select "Keep File."

      • In the case of a PC, you can delete the original file. In this case, the .m4r file will not be deleted from the computer.
    5. Return the M4R file to iTunes. Go to Finder or Windows Explorer and drag the M4R file into the Ringtones section of your iTunes library. This step is required if you are using an iPhone.

      • Once the file is added to the ringtone library, you can sync your phone and the file will be added to the list of available ringtones.

    Using Audacity

    1. Download Audacity. Audacity is an open source audio editor available for free download from the developer's website. This program can be used to trim a portion of a song that you want to use as a ringtone. The program provides many functions and will certainly be useful to you not only for creating ringtones.

We often store dozens or even hundreds of MP3 songs on our smartphone. However, none of them are suitable for calling. You don’t want to listen to an intro as a ringtone, which is often very long? This is why music trimming is essential. It allows you to get rid of the intro and the first verse. As a result, a cheerful chorus will sound during the call. How to trim a song from your phone - read below.

Previously, cutting a musical composition required resources that mobile phone owners could only dream of, so a computer was used. Well, now in our pocket there is a device whose characteristics are not inferior to a good laptop. It's no surprise that you can easily find a music trimming app on Google Play. But we are getting ahead of ourselves a little.

There are two most common ways to trim a song on devices with the Android operating system on board:

  • Using a special program;
  • Visit a special website.

Let's take a look at both of these ringtone creation methods.

Using Applications

On Google Play you can download for free about a dozen programs that are used to trim an MP3 file. Here are the most popular ones:

We will show the process of trimming a song using an example Ringtone Maker MP3 Editor. So, download, install and run this program, and then perform the following manipulations:

Step 1. Select the song from which you want to create a ringtone. Clicking on the track name itself starts listening to it. You need to click on the vertical ellipsis, which will display the context menu.

Step 2. Click on the item " Edit».

Step 3. You have reached the section where the track is edited. Here you can see sound waves, made in graphic form. You need to select a fragment that will be used as a ringtone. Limiters are designed for this, each of which has three vertical stripes. You can start playback of the selected area by pressing the corresponding green button located at the bottom of the screen. Scaling of a music track is carried out by clicking on the buttons with a magnifying glass.

Step 4. When you're done, click the " Set as ringtone" Either " Save" if you just want to save the cropped composition.

Step 5. You will be asked to choose what you want to use the cropped composition for. " Ringtone" - ringtone, " Notification" - notification sound, " Alarm" - alarm. Make a selection and click on the " Ok».

That's all! The melody is saved. You can exit the application.

Using online services

Theoretically, you can do without auxiliary applications. Just open your Internet browser and go to a special website that allows you to trim a song online. Here are the most popular resources of this kind:

Let's try to trim the melody using Ringer.org. To do this you need to do the following:

Step 1. Go to ringer.org/ru/ using the browser you usually use.

Step 2. Click on the button Download».

Step 3. You will be presented with a list of applications. Choose the one with which it is most convenient for you to select a musical composition. In our case, this will be a pre-installed program " Documentation».

Step 4. Select the MP3 file you want to trim.

Step 5. Wait for it to finish loading on the site.

Step 6. Next, use markers to highlight the fragment that will sound during the call. Select the save format - in the case of the Android operating system, it should be MP3. Click the button Make a ringtone».

Step 7 Click the button Download».

Step 8 Look for your melody in the folder " Download" You can move it from there to another folder and perform other actions using any file manager.

This completes online music trimming! This method works not only on smartphones, but also on tablets, desktop computers, laptops and many other devices that can access the Internet.

When you get tired of a dozen standard melodies, all you have to do is either find a ready-made file on the Internet, or create it yourself from your favorite song. We are not looking for easy ways, so we will consider the option of creating a ringtone from a ready-made mp3 file with your favorite music.

In addition to the music file itself, we will need to cut the desired fragment from the track and prepare it.

Making a ringtone for a mobile phone from an mp3 file.

Let's consider creating a ringtone in the simple but functional Mp3directcut editor, it is much simpler than the Wavosaur editor, which in turn is a simplified version of the SoundForge editor.

Sequencing:

1. Open the mp3 file in the Mp3directcut program
2. Trim the unnecessary part of the mp3 file.
3. Normalize the track volume
4. Apply the effect of a smooth increase in volume at the beginning of the recording.
5. Apply a volume decay effect at the end of the recording.
6. Save the file as mp3 and upload it to your mobile phone.

1. Open the mp3 file already downloaded to your computer in the program

“File” - “Open” - select a file on your computer.

The left side of the window shows the current position of the cursor in relation to time, and the right side shows a schematic representation of the audio file. Editing of the file will take place in this window.

Hint: use the button with a magnifying glass to more accurately position the cursor and highlight recording areas.

2. Trim the unnecessary part of the mp3 file.

Select the starting area of the track, which is the intro and is not interesting to us. In my example, this is Selection: Selection: 0"00.00 - 0"15.05 (0"15.05) i.e. the first 15 seconds.

Then in the Edit menu, click the "Cut" button.

Since the call usually lasts no more than 30 - 40 seconds, we cut off the end of the file so that our track has this duration. To do this, use the mouse to select the range that we will delete and again in the Edit menu click the “Cut” button or the Ctrl+X button combination

Hint: in the Navigation field you can set the starting and ending points of the selection in numbers, in our example this is Selection: 0"40.05 - 7"11.54 (6"31.50) and immediately delete it using the Ctrl + X button combination

3. Normalize the track volume

Normalization will be useful for smoothing out audio levels and increasing or decreasing the volume. In my case, I will slightly increase the volume from the initial level by +3 dB.
In your case, preview the melody and decide which one you like best, taking into account the phone volume.

Select with the mouse the entire remaining fragment, then select “Edit” - “Normalize” - +3 dB - “Ok”

4. Apply the effect of a smooth increase in volume at the beginning of the recording.

In my example, I will select a fragment of 10 seconds to increase the volume.
To do this, select the initial fragment of 10 seconds with the mouse and in the "Edit" menu select "Create a simple fade-in/fade-in"

5. Apply a volume decay effect at the end of the recording.

I will apply the fade effect to 5 seconds of recording, so I select a part of the track that is 5 seconds long and again in the “Edit” menu, select “Create a simple fade/fade in”

At the end of all operations, execute the AutoCrop command from the "Special" menu - the editor will trim all unnoticed pauses at the beginning and end of the track.

6. Save the file as mp3 and upload it to your mobile phone.

To save a track in mp3 format, which all modern phones work with, in the “File” menu, select the “Save all audio” command and specify the location on the disk.

Now all we have to do is upload the file to the phone in any convenient way (USB connection, DropBox or GoogleDrive accounts) and select it as a ringtone.
