The most interesting thing is that in this case you need to do the opposite. That is, the values of IP addresses must be set manually. This is done as follows. Select the wired network adapter and go to its properties:

Try rebooting your router

Problems with IP addresses often occur, for example, when the system is not able to obtain it automatically. If you entered them manually, then most likely the specified address is incorrect, or the subnet has been changed.

In this case, you need to check the adapter settings in the Network and Sharing Center. In the window that appears, you need to select the connection you are using, right-click on its icon and select “Status”. The “Connection Status” window will appear on the screen. That's what we need. If the “IPv4 Address” item indicates an address in the format 169.254.X.X, then the system was unable to automatically obtain an IP address using the router’s DHCP server.

First of all, in this case, it makes sense to try to register it manually. On the bottom of the router, as a rule, there is a sticker indicating the model and brand of the device. On it you can see its IP address, as well as data for accessing the web interface (login and password).

Right-click on the network connection icon again, but this time select “Properties”. Then you need to select the “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” component and put a dot in the new window next to “Use...”.

Adjust your router settings
Many people, in order to set up a router, exactly duplicate the settings indicated as an example on the network. And often this is what leads to the computer subsequently displaying the message “Unidentified network. Without access to the Internet."

The examples exist only so that users can understand which item in which section of the device menu is responsible for what. You must specify your settings, and not those indicated in the example. It happens that the settings given as an example coincide with yours. If this is not the case, you may have difficulty gaining access to the network.

Double-check your username and password. If you missed a character, chose the wrong case or input language, there will be no Internet. In addition, an unidentified WiFi network may appear due to an incorrectly selected connection type.

When setting up the modem, be sure to use your own settings, and not those suggested in other people’s examples, then everything will work out.

Update your drivers
Outdated or non-working network adapter drivers are also often the reason why a computer or laptop receives only limited access when trying to connect to the Internet. The unidentified network will be able to be identified normally when you fix this problem.

Important! The drivers that the Windows operating system installs itself do not always work adequately. A much more reliable option is to download the appropriate software directly from your router manufacturer's website.

Change MAC address
Have you done everything described above, but an unidentified network remains without access to the Internet, and you do not observe any signs of life from the connection?

The problem may be related to the device's MAC address being incorrect. However, this is only relevant in cases where all devices connected to the same network are working normally and have access to the Internet, and only one computer or laptop is experiencing problems.

The trick is that manufacturers often assign all boards the same MAC address. If you reinstalled the drivers from the disk that came with the motherboard, two devices with the same MAC address may appear on the network. Is this your case? Then you should try to register it manually.

Press the Win+R key combination, and then in the “Run” window enter the command devmgmt.msc. This way you open the Windows Device Manager. This must be done on behalf of a user with administrator rights. In the manager we need to find the “Network adapters” item. In the drop-down list you will see the name of the device with which the computer connects to the Internet. Double-click on the adapter icon and select “Advanced” in the window that appears. We need a "Network Address". You should check the box next to the empty field, then enter 12 digits in this field, click “OK” and restart the computer.

Check your firewall
Incorrect firewall settings are another common reason why a computer or laptop displays the error “Unidentified network. Without access to the Internet."

If the firewall is configured correctly, it will stop unauthorized attempts to penetrate the network from the outside and prevent malicious actions. However, sometimes it blocks all data flows altogether.

Check the IP addresses that the firewall does not allow access to the Internet; your device’s address should not be among them. It is better to register the entire list of IPs that should be blocked yourself; it takes a little time, but there will be no risk that your computer will accidentally be included in the list of prohibited devices.

Nothing helped?
Then, most likely, it is not possible to correct the situation without the intervention of specialists. Regardless of what version of the operating system you are using, be it Windows XP, Windows 7 or Windows 8, the unidentified network will be recognized and will begin to work normally only after the technician diagnoses all the equipment, repairs it if necessary (or recommends replacing it) ) and enter the necessary settings. As a rule, such problems are resolved within 20-30 minutes.

And one more thing. You can perform a complete reset of network connection settings, then perform the setup again: Press Win+X and enter the commands below one by one:

In the new Windows 10, the "Unidentified Network" error looks a little different, but the problem itself and solutions remain the same. The appearance of this error indicates that there are problems with your Internet connection. When there is no connection for some reason. This error may appear when connecting via Wi-Fi, via a router, or when connecting via a network cable (directly from the provider, or through a router). When connected via cable (Ethernet)

If you encounter this problem when you are connected to the Internet via cable, then there will be an error in the connection status window "Unidentified network. No internet connection". Well, there’s a yellow icon next to the Internet connection icon. And next to the “Ethernet” adapter there will also be a message about an unidentified network.

If connected via Wi-Fi

In this case, the error will be "No internet connection, secure". The wireless adapter will have the status "Unidentified Network". And next to the "Wi-Fi" icon there will be a yellow exclamation mark.

When connected via a Wi-Fi router. Including via cable.
And when the Internet is connected directly to the computer via a network cable. From the Internet provider.

It seems to me that this error is most often encountered when connecting via a network cable. Via an Ethernet adapter.

Simple solutions to the "Unidentified network" error in Windows 10

Let's first look at simple and basic solutions. Perhaps these tips will help fix the problem with Internet access. And you won't have to figure out more complex solutions.

Resetting network settings

I thought about it and decided to first recommend resetting the network settings. This method very often helps solve various problems with Internet connection. In Windows 10, doing a network reset is very easy. In the settings, in the "Network and Internet" section there is a separate item. Just click on “Reset network”, then on the “Reset now” button and confirm.

There is a chance that after restarting the computer the Internet will work.

You can also reset TCP/IP settings through the command line by running the following commands:

netsh int ip reset

ipconfig /release

But I don't see much point in this. If you have Windows 10, then it is better to reset the network, as I showed above.

Verifiable TCP/IP settings

The “Unidentified network” error itself indicates that the system was unable to obtain an IP address from the router or ISP equipment. Perhaps the problem is in the IP settings for the IPv4 protocol in the properties of our Internet connection. If some static parameters are already specified there, then it is quite possible that they were set incorrectly. You can try setting automatic IP acquisition. Or register static settings (if the connection is via a router, or your provider issues a static IP).

This error can also be caused by problems with the DHCP server on the router. (whose task is to distribute IP addresses). Therefore, reboot your router.

One more thing: you probably noticed that after disconnecting and reconnecting the cable, or reconnecting to the Wi-Fi network, the connection remains in the “Identification” status for a long time. This is nothing more than an attempt to obtain an IP address to connect.

Open Network and Sharing Center and Change adapter settings.

If the connection is via Wi-Fi, then open the properties of the “Wireless Network” adapter.
If via a network cable, then “Ethernet”.

Near the problematic adapter there will most likely be the inscription “Unidentified network”. Right-click on it and select "Properties".

Select "IP Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click the "Properties" button. Another window will open in which you can set the necessary parameters for this connection. do this:

If this does not help, then it is better to set the automatic receipt of addresses back. Or register the addresses that were initially specified there.

Changing the network address with the error "Unidentified network. There is no Internet connection"

In some cases, changing the MAC address of the adapter through which we connect to the Internet can help.

To do this, you need to go to the device manager. You can find it and run it through the search. Or by specifying the command devmgmt.msc in the Run window that appears after pressing the Win + R key combination.

In the manager, open the "Network Adapters" tab, right-click on the adapter through which you connect to the Internet, and select "Properties".

Go to the "Advanced" tab. Select "Network Address" from the list. And by setting the switch next to the empty field, we enter a new address of 12 characters there. You can only use numbers, or letters from A to F. It looks something like this:

Click "Ok" and restart the computer.

Remove the adapter, update the Ethernet and Wi-Fi adapter drivers

Honestly, I have not seen a case where the network adapter driver was to blame for solving such problems with the lack of Internet connection in Windows 10. But anything is possible. Therefore, I would advise you to first try removing the adapter so that it is reinstalled in the system.

To do this, in Device Manager, just right-click on the adapter, when connecting through which the “Unidentified network” error appears, and select “Delete”. If you have problems with your Wi-Fi connection, then you need to remove the driver whose name includes “Wi-Fi” or “Wireless”. The screenshot below shows the driver for the "Ethernet" network card.

All this is completely independent of the router model, but is only a consequence of incorrect settings. To begin with, such settings need to be “reset” - that is, the router must be transferred to the state in which it was immediately after leaving the assembly line. Each such device has a button marked “Reset”. It can be located either on the side of the device body or on its back wall.

As a rule, the button is small in size. This is done to prevent it from being pressed accidentally. Another protective measure is the need to hold the button down for some time (usually about 10 seconds). This is the only way to make it work. So, take an object with a sharp tip and press it on the button, holding it for a while. A signal that the settings have been reset will be multiple blinking of the front panel lights.

Is the connection type specified correctly?

Among the router's software settings, there is one parameter that is critical for the normal functioning of Wi-Fi. This is a type of Internet connection. If you specify the connection type incorrectly, access to the Internet becomes impossible. If, when physically correctly connecting the router to the computer, when setting up the router, Windows writes “without access to the Internet,” first check the connection type. this parameter can take the following values:

PPPoE.
L2TP.
PPTP.
Static IP.
Dynamic IP.

Each connection type requires its own settings. You should ask your provider what type of connection it uses to connect subscribers. The most basic way to connect to a network is to use a dynamically assigned address.

In this case, you will not need to specify any additional parameters, such as IP address, gateway addresses, etc. PPTP, PPPoE and L2TP usually require you to specify a login and password assigned to you by your provider. This data is usually specified in the connection agreement. Static IP will require you to specify the IP address, gateway address and DNS addresses in the router settings. They must match those of the computer connected to the device. It’s easy to find out all these parameters by typing the command in the Windows console: ipconfig /all.

Binding by MAC address

This is a common technology for identifying users by the provider. Each network device is assigned a unique identifier - the so-called MAC address. When connecting, the provider can control this parameter and, if it does not comply with what is stated in the contract and the provider’s internal database, reset the connection. Many people have encountered this situation when reconnecting the provider cable to another computer or laptop. In this situation, you have to manually enter the MAC address in the Internet connection settings.

About the same thing has to be done when connecting to a router network. To do this, there is a special interface in its settings, usually equipped with a button with an inscription like “Clone MAC Address” or something like that. If you have correctly specified the type and parameters of your network connection, but you still cannot connect to the Internet, try cloning the MAC address. Or call your provider asking for advice on this matter. Detailed information may also be available on your Internet service provider's website.
