Wallpaper image size is too small. How to set wallpaper on Xiaomi? Examples of photo quality settings on Xiaomi

When changing the wallpaper on a smartphone, we not only change the appearance of the desktop, but also adapt the mobile device to our character, mood and lifestyle. How to set wallpaper on Xiaomi and introduce it to your inner world?

Open the system settings and look for the “Wallpaper” item, which is located in the “Personalization” section.

You can see that it is possible to change not only the Xiaomi desktop wallpaper, but also the lock screen. We choose where exactly we want to change the background and go to the picture selection section.

The proprietary MIUI firmware has its own set of all kinds of wallpapers that can be located both on the smartphone itself and online. To download new pictures, switch to the “Online” section and choose a background that best suits your taste. If desired, you can always change it to a new one.

Setting wallpaper from your desktop

An equally difficult option is to install wallpaper directly from your smartphone’s desktop.

To do this, click on the empty space of the table and wait for the bottom menu to appear in which there will be the “Wallpaper” item.

Click on it and select a background from the available ones, or again go to the section of available wallpapers online or saved locally.

Setting wallpaper from gallery

If you need to set some photo as wallpaper, then the easiest way to do this is from the standard gallery.

Select the desired photo and click on the “More” button. In the list that opens, select “Set as wallpaper”.

We center the image as necessary and click on the “Apply” button, after which we select where exactly this image will be installed - on the desktop, lock table or anywhere.

When buying a new smartphone, the user, of course, begins to customize it for himself. These custom configurations have a lot to do with the device's home screen. It is necessary to correctly place all the elements so that access to them is as fast as possible. This article will talk about how to configure the MIUI desktop (the operating system of Xiaomi devices).

Initially, you need to decide on those elements that can be configured on the main screen:

  1. Actually the desks themselves: their location, quantity.
  2. Location of applications, widgets.
  3. Configuring widgets: sizes, purpose.
  4. Wallpapers, design themes.

Let's consider all these possibilities, kindly provided by the manufacturer, in more detail.

Creating and placing desktops

Initially, you need to understand how to add these same desktops on MIUI and how to remove them.

There are two main ways:

  1. Pinch with two fingers and scroll left or right. If a “+” in a circle is visible on the screen, then this means that you can add a desktop, and if with an “x”, then delete it.

  1. A three-finger pinch opens a more detailed control menu. The cross in the upper right corner of the block of one of the desktops allows you to remove it, and the transparent block with a “+” inside allows you to add it. If you click on the house icon at the bottom of one of the blocks, a certain table will open by default.

The transition effect between desktops can also be customized. After pinching with two fingers, you need to select the “Effects” menu, and in it select one of the proposed options for animation of moving between sheets.

Hosting applications and widgets

There is no need to get used to the inconvenient arrangement of individual elements. You can always move them to a place where your finger can always find them without difficulty. Just hold down an application, widget or folder to drag it to another location.

To move elements:

  • drag the icon to the very edge of the current table, holding until scrolling;
  • hold down the icon and scroll with your second finger to the desired table.

Sorting and working with folders

You can also move applications in batches. To do this, you need to enter the menu by double-tapping the screen. Select the “Sorting” item and simply click on the desired applications to add them to the set. Then, to group them, you need to swipe from left to right and hold down the entire group to drag it to the desired location on the screen or into a folder.

An empty folder can be created in the same way. When several icons are added to a group, a “Folder” icon will appear next to them, by clicking on which you can add it to the desktop. You can then add grouped icons to this folder. You need to rename the folder through the same menu. After double-pinch, you need to open the folder and click on the name above it, after which you will be able to enter a new name.

Widgets and their settings

By double-pinch and entering the “Widgets” item, you can install autonomous functional modules on the desktop that will display various useful information or provide quick access to applications installed on the device.

For example, on Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro, taken as an example, you can see the following widgets:

  • buttons for quick access to functions located in the “curtain” (the top pull-out menu of the device) – airplane mode, Wi-Fi settings;

  • quick clear RAM button;
  • clock, weather, calendar;
  • notes;
  • calculator;
  • modules for a wide variety of applications: AIMP, WebMoney, STEAM, Kate Mobile, etc.

The set of widgets is determined solely by the applications installed on a specific device.

When installing a widget, the program may offer its own settings, or you can make changes already on an existing module. In the case of the module for WebMoney, the program initially prompts you to select the wallet whose balance the module will display, and the colors of the widget.

The colors of the module for the AIMP music player can be changed in the already created version by clicking on the gear in the upper right corner of the block.

Also, most widgets can be resized if you press and hold for a while. After this, an orange rectangle will appear along the outline of the module, which you will need to pull to reduce the size.

Changing wallpaper and theme

However, on the desktop you need not only to arrange everything conveniently, but also to design it beautifully. For this purpose, you can change the wallpaper, which will become the background for all icons and widgets.

You can set wallpaper in the following ways:

  1. Open the menu by pinching with two fingers and select “Wallpaper”. There the user will be offered a set of standard pictures. If you click “Online”, he will be taken to the standard wallpaper database for MIUI, and if you click “More”, he will be able to install “Live Wallpaper” or use one of the applications to select a picture that interests him.

  1. In Explorer you need to find any picture, open it, and then click “More” and select “Set as wallpaper”.

  1. You can also use a special application to set wallpaper. For example, you can use the application from WallpapersCraft. It initially adapts the wallpaper base to the screen resolution of the device on which it is installed. To install a picture on your desktop, you just need to select it and click “Install”. If you wish, you can also “Download” the image without installation by clicking the corresponding button.

In addition to the theme, unique icons for applications and some widgets can be added. To do this, you need to enter the standard “Themes” application and select the most interesting topic for yourself. Some of them may not work due to compatibility issues. It is necessary to look in the description which themes work on MIUI 8 and which ones are suitable for older models with earlier versions of the operating system.

Bottom line

After reading this article, we can conclude that the developers of the MIUI system took care of their users and created all the conditions for the creative design of their devices. Due to the convenient configuration of this element of the system, you can add and remove various elements from the desktop. You can sort and organize icons, and also make them more original by installing themes.

When purchasing a smartphone on the Internet, it is not always possible to test it in real conditions. The opinion is based on reviews, some of which are not entirely honest. Very often disappointment arises from the smartphone camera; test images on the Internet are very high quality and rich. Don’t forget that with the right light, the “calculator” will take a high-quality photo.

How to improve your Xiaomi camera

First of all, it’s worth saying that camera settings need to be made only in the “Camera” menu itself.

If you open the “Camera” and something clicks, don’t be alarmed, it’s the lens working.

Open “Camera” - “Modes” - gear in the upper right corner.

In the “Taking photos” section we are interested in the following points:

  • Aspect Ratio;
  • Photo quality.

Ratio– set “Standard 4:3” - if you specify “Widescreen 16:9”, then the camera does not use the upper and lower parts of the matrix and reduces the image size.

Photo quality– set to “High”, by default it can be “medium”.

Points of interest in this section:

  • Exposure mode – in other words, calculating brightness from the focusing point;
  • Contrast;
  • Saturation;
  • Definition.

Exposure Mode – There are three options available: Average, Center Weighted and Spot.

  1. “Average” distributes brightness evenly across the entire frame.
  2. "Center-weighted" distributes brightness away from the focal point and fades toward the edges of the frame.
  3. “Spot” distributes spot brightness relative to the focus object. This mode is good to use if your subject is very bright relative to the background.

The remaining items, such as “Contrast”, “Saturation”, “Clarity”, must be selected manually, individually for each device.

Examples of photo quality settings on Xiaomi

On one of the forums dedicated to Xiaomi, they suggested an option to improve the camera.

  • Quality – “High”
  • Ratio – “4:3”
  • Exposure – “Average”
  • Clarity – “Lowest” or “Low”
  • Contrast and saturation – “Medium”.

Settings for one of the users: All parameters – “High”, Exposure – “Centre-weighted”.

Opinions are divided:

  • in the first version there are more natural colors;
  • in the second the picture is more saturated.

Manual camera mode on Xiaomi

We have selected the optimal settings for photographs, now let’s talk about “Manual Mode” in the Xiaomi camera.

Manual mode allows you to adjust white balance and ISO. This mode is good to use in low light conditions.

  • ISO – light sensitivity, has several options to choose from. The lower the value, the darker the photo will be; the higher, the brighter, but also the more “noise” appears.
  • White balance can be selected manually for more accurate color reproduction.

All settings must be selected individually, depending on the situation.

Improving video quality on Xiaomi

Everything is clear with the photos, all that remains is to adjust the video quality. Go to “Camera” - switch to video - “Modes” - gear in the upper right corner.

To configure video parameters there are only two:

  • Video quality – select Full HD, if you have the “4K” option, try it.
  • Focus mode – two options, touch or “CAF”. “CAF” is a continuous focus on an object, it doesn’t work quite right on Xiaomi, you can try two options, we recommend “Touch”.

All these methods work on all devices that support MIUI: Xiaomi Mi, Mi Max, Redmi, Redmi Note and so on.

Indeed, on some versions of the MIUI firmware there is a problem where only 10 images are shown in the carousel, and in this article you will find a solution. But first, let's figure out what a wallpaper carousel is and how it turns on.

What is a wallpaper carousel on MIUI

  • Hello, I installed the wallpaper carousel again, there are no subscriptions, only one “on the device.”
  • Wallpaper Carousel is an application from Xiaomi that automatically changes the wallpaper on your phone's lock screen. Moreover, most of the images are very high quality and beautiful.

    The carousel can be activated in two ways:

    • Go to “Settings” -> “Wallpaper” -> “Wallpaper Carousel” and select “Turn On Wallpaper Carousel”;
    • Directly on the lock screen, press the special button to activate the wallpaper carousel:

    What to do if there are only 10 images in the carousel

    There is a radical but very simple solution - remove the installed carousel application and install a new one.

    The new application is taken from the Xiaomi application store and is additionally checked for viruses (like all applications on this site).

    To delete the current application, you need to go to “Settings” -> “All applications” and in the “All” tab find and select “Carousel”. All that remains is to click “Delete” and confirm with the “OK” button:

    To install an app from outside the Google Play Store, you first need to allow installation from unknown sources. To do this, you need to activate the “Unknown sources” item in the “Settings” -> “Security” menu (after installation, do not forget to deactivate it, this is very important for the security of your device).

    Xiaomi smartphones have taken a good place in the mobile device market, and more and more often I meet people with phones from this manufacturer. And this is absolutely fair, since these devices have an excellent, or simply ideal, price-quality ratio. Today we will talk about some of the tricks that most Xiaomi smartphones have running on Android 5.0 with the proprietary MIUI 8 shell.

    Well, let's take a closer look at today's Lifehacks for Xiaomi smartphones that we have prepared for you.

    1. Wallpaper carousel.

    As soon as I picked up my smartphone and started working with it, a curious button in the upper right corner on the lock screen caught my eye. It turns out that this button launches a very interesting function - a wallpaper carousel.

    From the name it immediately became clear that after activating this function, the wallpaper on the lock screen will begin to change. In other words, if you enable the wallpaper carousel feature on your xiaomi smartphone, then you get access to lock screen wallpapers from popular graphic content publications.

    I almost forgot, this function will work correctly only if there is an Internet connection.

    2. Screenshot with three fingers on the screen.

    Yes, everyone knows that in order to take a screenshot of the screen on xiaomi smartphones (as well as on most other gadgets) you need to simultaneously press the power button and volume down. Another known method is to pull the curtain down and press the corresponding button on the switch panel.

    I bet that the method of taking a screenshot by swiping down with three fingers is not known to everyone. By default, this feature is not enabled. To activate it, you need to go to Settings/Advanced Settings/Screenshot and enable this function here.

    3. Set your picture as wallpaper.

    It’s good that the programmers thought about the user in advance and have already included several different pictures in the firmware that can be set as wallpaper. But what if you want to set your picture as your desktop wallpaper or lock screen?

    Fortunately, we know two ways that will help us set our own picture as wallpaper on Xiaomi smartphones. Absolutely right, the first method involves long pressing the menu button (this is provided by default in the firmware, and provided that you have not changed the button parameters). In this case, a certain menu will launch that allows you to configure the settings of the desktop, widgets, wallpapers and effects. This is where you need to click on the Wallpaper button, after which we will see a lot of standard, factory pictures. But we need to scroll to the left to the very end where the Other button appears, and then the usual procedure: select the file manager and indicate the desired picture. After this, the system will ask you what wallpaper to set it as, it’s up to you to choose.

    The second method is slightly different; to do this, go to Settings/Wallpaper and do what we need - change the desktop or lock screen wallpaper. There you will find a circle with a plus sign in the lower right corner, with which you can set your picture as wallpaper. By the way, there are also settings for the wallpaper carousel, which we wrote about above.

    4. Quick access

    Another useful feature that few people know about. To enable this utility, you need to go to Settings/Advanced Settings/Quick Access and enable it. In this case, a small transparent button will appear on the screen, when pressed, five more functional buttons will open: home, menu, lock screen, screenshot and back.

    5. Cloning applications

    That's right, application cloning, what does it mean? Imagine that you have two accounts on a social network and in order to log into one or the other account, you need to constantly log out and log in again. This problem has now been resolved. Xiaomi took care of this problem and gave us the ability to clone applications. That’s right, now you can safely use one application for different accounts. In order to make a clone of a program, you need to go to Settings/Application Cloning and select which application you want to clone.

    After cloning an application, another icon with this application will appear on the desktop, but with a special mark.

    6. Time lapse and slow motion - camera functions

    Imagine what colorful videos you’ll get if you speed them up a little (you’ll get a time lapse) or slow them down?

    And how surprising it will be to learn that this does not require a computer or additional software at all. And all because xiaomi smartphones have such modes in the camera settings. There is one caveat here: in order to shoot slow-motion video, you need to set the video quality to HD instead of FHD in the camera settings.

    Now you have a camera at your fingertips that can take time-lapse or slow-motion footage without any problems.

    7. Backup and reset

    Using this settings section, you can not only reset your device to factory settings, but also something more interesting. It turns out that on xiaomi smartphones, using this section you can back up system settings, account data (SMS, call log) and applications.

    Imagine how pleasantly surprised I was when I completely flashed my smartphone from official to custom firmware, went into the settings and restored all system settings! Yes, of course, before flashing the phone’s firmware, I made a backup copy, but still, how Xiaomi managed to do it, I can’t wrap my head around it. Call log, SMS, notes, all settings: WiFi, radio, weather, cameras, etc. - everything is in place.

    8. Keyboard

    It would seem that this is not clear. Well, no guys, and there are some tricks here. I have a question for you, or rather two: how do you move the cursor and how do you delete unnecessary words? On xiaomi smartphones, all this can be done a little easier. For example, I learned to erase unnecessary words using a gesture on the delete key, and to move the cursor using gestures on the spacebar. Believe me, it has become much easier to type text on your phone.

    In order for the phone keyboard to begin recognizing these gestures, you need to go to Settings/Advanced Settings/Language and Input/Google Keyboard Settings/Continuous Input and only here you can activate these magical gestures.

    9. LED indicator

    This function may be familiar to most users, but still I decided to mention it. Xiaomi smartphones have a three-color LED, which, as you probably noticed, lights up in different colors. Did you know that you can set almost any color for notifications, calendar, missed calls or messages from applications?

    That's exactly what I did, now the missed call - my indicator is green; notification – blue; messages from VKontakte - yellow, messages from Viber - purple, etc. The main thing now is not to get confused.

    Where can I set the LED color? Go to Settings/Advanced Settings/LED Control - this is where I configured the color of the indication. To be fair, it is worth noting that applications are configured individually in their own settings.

    10. One-handed operation

    Have you ever had to use one hand on a smartphone with a diagonal larger than 5 inches? And how, it’s true, it’s not very easy, especially if you have a small palm! Fortunately, our Chinese friends have foreseen this. Of course, the phone does not transform or shrink, but the manufacturer has added an excellent feature - one-handed operation.

    What does it mean? This means that if you suddenly need to use one hand (for example, you are driving or carrying a heavy bag), you can activate the one-hand control mode with a slight movement of your thumb. To do this, you just need to swipe your thumb away from the center button on the bottom panel of touch buttons. If you did everything correctly, the system will ask: Enter one-handed control mode? And after confirmation, the working area of the screen will immediately decrease (by default to 4″). In the settings you can either reduce or increase this size.

    Agree, it is now much easier to use a smartphone with one hand! To exit this mode, just lock the device or tap outside the zone (outside the reduced working area).

    Don’t judge us harshly; perhaps most of you already knew everything about these tricks. Or maybe it will be useful for someone, and if so, then we didn’t waste our time writing this post.
