Amd fx 8350 processor tests. New generation amd processor line

When choosing a processor from AMD, you are faced with many incomprehensible letters and numbers. What do they mean? How to separate an average processor from a weak one? You will learn about this in our material.

Introduction

Processors produced before 2010, as well as server solutions, chips on the AM1 platform, as well as the AMD Ontario line (not currently relevant) will not be considered here, so the markings shown in this article may not apply to them.

Here is a video that will help you figure it out, but we recommend that you still read the article, as it is more detailed and will be updated in the future.

Architecture

The market currently offers chips from the 4 latest desktop architectures, and in the second half of 2016 it is planned to introduce to the world a new Zen architecture with a large jump in performance per clock and reduced to 14 nm, which may help catch up with Intel in the top segment.

Sockets

Current platforms at the beginning of 2016 include FM2, FM2+ and AM3+

Processor lines

E - series

Budget entry-level processors designed for laptops and netbooks.

E1 have 2 cores on board, and E2 - 4.

Belonging to a particular generation is determined by the first digit:

  • 7-Carrizo-L
  • 6 - Beema
  • 2, 3 - Kabini (not taking into account old chips before 2012, which have the same number)

There are quite a few chips in this series, and if there is a need, you can familiarize yourself with the models at.

APU

AMD processors with integrated graphics core (APU) are divided into lines:

  • A4 – 2 cores
  • A6 – 2 cores
  • A8 – 4 cores
  • A10 – 4 cores

A12-8800B falls out of this nomenclature, but you can read about it.

Accordingly, from weaker to more powerful, both in graphics and in the processor part. Here's an example:

The first digit indicates the processor cores (generation).

CORRESPONDENCE OF NUMBERS TO CORE TYPE
GENERATIONNUMBER IN THE CHIP NAME
Carrizo8
Godavari7
Kaveri7
Richland4, 6
Trinity4, 5

In our case, having the number 7, we get Kaveri kernels.

It is worth noting that the number 4 for the A4 series on Richland architecture means a reduced frequency, which leads to reduced performance.

850 – indicates performance among similar processors in frequency (more is better)

  • P – standard power consumption in the case of mobile processors (35 W)
  • B – designation of Pro processors
  • M – mobile processor (old designation)
  • K – unlocked for overclocking
  • T – reduced power consumption (stationary PCs)

Interestingly, there are A-processors labeled with the FX trademark. As a rule, these are the company's most powerful laptop processors. They are also built on APU architecture.

Athlon

Now let's talk about Athlon. Essentially these are the same A-processors, but with a disabled video core for a lower price.

Let's take as an example

  • X4 – denotes 4 processor cores
  • 8 – is an index of Kaveri cores (7 – Trinity)

We see no point in pointing to earlier models, since even the top-end Athlon X4 860K chip for this socket demonstrates the results of an average chip by modern standards, so we do not advise you to buy these processors in 2016. If at first you are satisfied with it, then when upgrading you will have to change the motherboard, which will cost a pretty penny and will recoup the money saved on this decision.

  • 60 – just like in the previous case, indicates the position of the processor in the lineup
  • K – has the same meaning

FX

Now let's talk about the fastest AMD processors - the FX series. These chips have great overclocking potential and a very reasonable price tag. The main disadvantage stems from the rather outdated architecture and production technology - energy consumption. The TDP - performance ratio is much inferior to Intel processors, but the price - performance is at a very good level. The nomenclature outlined below is not valid for FX 9xxx - these are the same 8xxx, but with an increased clock frequency. Here is the chip we chose as an example:

The first digit indicates the number of cores, in this case 8.

The second indicates a generation

  • 3 – Vishera cores
  • 1, 2 – Zambezi cores

The remaining numbers indicate the frequency of the chip within the same family, but we believe that this does not matter. We advise you to take the youngest model in the line, since the older ones are exactly the same, but with factory overclocking. Why overpay for factory overclocking if the “stones” drive so well?

If you have any questions, you can visit the website, you can find some useful information there.

This article did not provide information about older chips, as well as about server solutions due to the outdated technology (technical process, architecture) of the former and the specificity of application and high cost of the latter. We hope that our material helped you understand the range of AMD processors and will help you make your choice.

The “heart” of any computer is considered to be the processor, which performs most of the computing operations in the PC. The performance of the PC and the performance of the entire system as a whole largely depend on it.

Among a large number of manufacturers, there are two main players and eternal competitors, INTEL and AMD. It's safe to say that most PC users have a CPU from one of these companies.

INTEL and AMD products are widely represented on the domestic computer components market. But how to choose the most suitable CPU, the installation of which will significantly speed up the operation of the entire system and increase computer performance? For this purpose, experts have compiled a rating of the most popular devices from the Canadian company AMD. The line of amd processors is very large, and among them there were not the most successful ones, so only the FX series will be considered. According to experts, FX are worthy competitors to the best INTEL models. What characteristics should you pay attention to first of all: clock speed, number of cores, cache size, heat dissipation and cost. It is these characteristics that will be discussed in this review.

FX 8350

The amd fx 8350 processor is the most powerful in the Vishera family. It is based on Piledriver architecture and has 8 cores with a clock frequency of 4 GHz each and 8 MGB L3. It is designed for installation in motherboards with Socket AM3+ connector. Most experts consider the fx8350 to be a direct competitor to the Intel Core i5-3570K CPU, although the Intel analogue has a higher cost than the fx8350, the set price for which is 195 USD.

The disadvantage of this CPU is the high heat dissipation of 125 W. That is why good cooling is required for its normal operation.

FX 8320

The amd fx 8320 processor is slower than the flagship of the Vishera FX 8350 family. In addition to a reduced clock frequency of 500 MHz, it has the same characteristics as the top model: 8 cores at 3.5 GHz and a third-level cache of 8 MB. Experts call the CPUIntelCore i5-3450 as a direct competitor. The heat dissipation, just like the older model, remains at the same level of 125 W, so before purchasing it you should think about good cooling. The declared price of fx 8320 is 169 USD.

Not sure about your choice? Trust our company! We will select the optimal processor, even if you need to bring it from other regions to Chelyabinsk.

FX 6300

The amd fx 6300 processor has the same clock frequency as the second number in the Vishera FX 8320 family. In contrast to older models, this device has 6 cores with a frequency of each 3.5 GHz. Thanks to the reduction in the number of cores, it was possible to reduce the heat dissipation of this CPU to 95 W. L3, like the 8320, is 8 MB, but the second level cache is 6 MB.

Changes in the amd fx 6300 also affected the operating frequency of the “north bridge” integrated into the processor. In the older models of this line it operates at 2.2 GHz, and in the fx 6300 – at 2.0 GHz. As a direct competitor, experts predict a rather outdated CPUIntelCore i5-2300 model. But the cost of this device pleasantly surprised: 132 USD.

FX 4300

The amd fx 4300 processor is the weakest link in the entire Vishera line. The model of this CPU is made on a full-fledged chip with 2 of the 4 processor modules blocked, as a result of which this model has only 4 cores and 8 possible ones, operating at a clock frequency of 3.8 GHz. The changes also affected L3, which instead of the possible 8 Mgb. is 4 Mgb. The reduced number of cores and the operating frequency of the integrated north bridge, the same as in the older CPUfx 6300 model, made it possible to keep the heat dissipation at 95 W. As a direct competitor, professionals offer the dual-core IntelCore i3-2120. The cost of this CPU is not very clear, which is 122 USD, which is only 10 dollars lower than the fx 6300, although it is much inferior to it in terms of basic characteristics.

Choosing the most worthy

It is quite difficult to choose the most productive processor, only because under light load, these devices do not show the best performance, calculated per 1 core. But as soon as quite resource-intensive tasks are set, for example, when working with graphics or modeling, where the number of cores is important, FX show good results and are not inferior in performance, and in some cases show better performance than their direct Intel competitors.

In games, the new Piledriver architecture showed much better results than the Zambezi-based CPU, and even more so than the Bulldozer. As you know, the processor frequency is very important for games, therefore, the higher the CPU clock speed and the larger the level 3 cache, the better.

Canadian FX series CPUs performed excellently when processing and transcoding video content in HD quality and when processing digital photos in the Adobe Lightroom application, although in Photoshop they lagged several percent behind Intel's direct competitors.

FX “stones” are fertile ground for overclockers, since all presented models have an unlocked multiplier. Tests have shown that the older model of the presented processors can be overclocked to 4.7 GHz, and the FX-8320 - up to 4.6 GHz, although at the cost of a significant increase in heat generation and power consumption. The 6-core processor FX-6300 showed stable operation when overclocked to 4.7 GHz. The maximum to which it was possible to overclock the FX-4300 so that its operation remained stable was up to 4.6 GHz.

Based on the above, we can conclude that of the presented FX series devices, the 6-core FX-6300 looks the most attractive. It has lower heat dissipation than the older models in the line, a decent frequency, a full-fledged L3 cache - 8 MB, and an acceptable cost of 132 USD.

AMD is one of the largest manufacturers of processors for computers and laptops. Today, all personal computers are equipped with processors either from this company or from Intel. For a number of reasons, many users choose one of the two manufacturers because each has its own advantages. Now we will look at the best AMD processors so that adherents of this company can choose the right model for themselves. The developers have an impressive range, so any user can decide which processor is best to choose for their needs.

No. 10 – AMD A10 Kaveri

Price: 6900 rubles

AMD A10 Kaveri is a budget processor with four cores that is perfect if you want to build a multimedia or office computer. The model looks great both in a working office computer and in a gaming PC.

For games, the processor will not be the most powerful, but still a worthy solution. It has quite impressive characteristics, but they are not enough to play modern demanding projects at maximum settings.

A separate advantage is the automatic frequency increase function. The processor does not need to be overclocked to get maximum power.

When the need arises, the frequency automatically increases to the maximum limit, which is especially noticeable in games. The A10 has a built-in graphics core.

Of course, its power is not enough to replace a full-fledged video card, but it is enough for everyday tasks and most current online games.

No. 9 – AMD FX-6350 Vishera

Price: 5940 rubles

The AMD FX-6350 Vishera is a six-core, six-thread processor that's great for gaming and other standard tasks. The processor clock frequency was 3.9 GHz, but in turbo mode it reaches 4.2 GHz.

In addition, it is possible to overclock the processor to increase its performance.

The FX-6350 is created using a 32 nm technical processor and has an open multiplier. The downside of this solution is the lack of an integrated graphics core, so a video card will be required in any case.

Also, if the device is overclocked, powerful cooling will be required to maintain operation. The processor is really quite hot. But if you have a good cooling system in your case, you don't have to worry about this.

Overall, the FX-6350 is one of the most powerful options in the budget segment.

AMD FX-6350 Vishera

No. 8 – AMD FX-8320 Vishera

Price: 5630 rubles

If you're looking for more performance in your home computer, check out the excellent 3.5GHz octa-core AMD FX-8320 Vishera processor, one of the most powerful processors in AMD's entry-level segment.

This is already a fairly fast processor on its own, but in certain situations it is capable of achieving even higher speeds. In turbo boost, all eight cores are accelerated to 5 GHz clock speed.

Vector extensions used by AMD also improve performance, increasing speed for particularly heavy applications. For this purpose floating point calculations are used.

The 8MB L3 cache is another improvement over most other processors, providing a great user experience. Your personal computer will last a long time with this fast, cool and reliable processor and will give you the necessary power reserve to perform various tasks.

No. 7 – AMD Ryzen 3 1200

Price: 5640 rubles

Our top processor continues with the AMD Ryzen 3 1200. Having passed all the basic tests, this chipset showed very good results, as did the entire AMD Ryzen 3 line in general.

This model will especially appeal to those who like to overclock hardware. With a standard 3.2 GHz, it can be overclocked to 4 GHz, which makes the 1200 one of the most powerful options in the budget segment.

Ryzen 3 1200 has received good reviews from customers. This is not surprising, since the model offers high base power and great overclocking potential for a very low price.

This is also a great option if such indicators as operating temperature and power consumption are important to you. Everyone is accustomed to the fact that this is precisely what AMD has the biggest problems with.

But the AMD Ryzen 3 1200 consumes quite little power and even under heavy loads does not heat up to temperatures above 64 degrees.

AMD Ryzen 3 1200

No. 6 – AMD Ryzen 3 2200G

Price: 6623 rubles

Another good quad-core processor with a clock frequency of 3.5 GHz. This model is from the same line as the previous one. But in this case we are considering a more advanced device.

It uses a 14 nm technical process, which today is considered a very good indicator. There is also an integrated graphics core, which means that many will be able to build a computer without a video card with such a processor. All this allowed the AMD Ryzen 3 2200G to join the list of powerful and cheap devices.

The Ryzen 3 2200G can be overclocked to a clock speed of 4.1 GHz. With such indicators, the chipset can already run most games at maximum settings. Unless of course you play in 4K resolution.

The processor has a fairly good built-in video core of 1650 Mhz at 1.3V. So, if you don’t play the most demanding games, you can do without a video card entirely. In a word, this is a logical continuation of a successful line.

AMD Ryzen 3 2200G

No. 5 – AMD Ryzen 5 2400G

Price: 9570 rubles

It's time to look at the more expensive AMD Ryzen 5 2400G model. It is immediately necessary to clarify that previous processors cannot be compared with it. There are many reasons for this.

The Ryzen 5 2400G is capable of providing the highest possible computer performance for a non-flagship processor.

The main feature of this model is the presence of an advanced built-in video card. This is one of the most powerful types of graphics hardware available, making the AMD Ryzen 5 2400G a truly gaming processor.

This chip can replace a separate video card, unless of course we are talking about top models. The combination of four cores with 8 threads and a powerful built-in video card is what can provide you with sufficient performance reserves for any task.

And if you also use a program to overclock processors, you can achieve really high results that will leave more expensive models behind.

AMD Ryzen 5 2400G

No. 4 – AMD Ryzen 5 2600X

Price: 13969 rubles

AMD Ryzen 5 2600X is an improved version of the previous model. Here, unlike the first, there are already six cores, with a clock frequency of 3.6 GHz.

The processor is created using 12 nm process technology, which is an advanced technology for our time. The 2600X has good overclocking capabilities, which is what attracts many users to this chipset. The model in question can be overclocked to 4 GHz without any problems.

The performance of the Ryzen 5 2600X is more than decent. If you combine this processor with a good video card, you can not only play modern games, but also work with graphics; the processor performs well in video rendering.

AMD Ryzen 5 2600X

No. 3 – AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

Price: 21971 rubles

The AMD Ryzen 5 line is good, but we won’t dwell on it for long and move on to the seven.

The Ryzen 7 2700X is an excellent eight-core processor with a base clock speed of 3.7 GHz and 16 MB of cache. In turbo mode, the processor can accelerate to 4.3 GHz.

Of course, there is also built-in graphics, but it is unlikely that anyone will purchase such a processor for a computer without a video card. This is a top solution for a home PC, which with this chipset will effortlessly cope with any tasks.

AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

No. 2 – AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X

Price: 58950 rubles

In the previous paragraphs, the most popular processors from AMD were discussed, but the table of models from this manufacturer also contains premium solutions that are superior in power to most modern options on the market.

Among them is the sixteen-core AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X, which has a clock speed of 3.4 GHz and 32 MB of cache.

The Threadripper 1950X processor can be overclocked to 4 GHz, but even at the standard clock speed it produces very high performance. At the same time, the chipset is quite cold, its temperature usually does not exceed 60 degrees.

It makes sense to buy a Threadripper for performing professional tasks; in a regular gaming PC, its capabilities are excessive.

AMD Ryzen Threadripper 1950X

#1 – AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX

Price: 148,710 rubles

Well, the title of the most powerful processor from AMD goes to the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX.

This is a powerful unit with 32 cores, which is sold at a very high price. For the same money you can build a fairly powerful personal computer from scratch.

Threadripper 2990WX has a clock speed of 3 GHz, but in turbo mode it can accelerate to 4.2 GHz. As for the cache, there is as much as 64 MB of it.

Technical process – 12 nm. With such a chipset, you can achieve the best possible performance on your PC.

So, we have reviewed the best offers from AMD. Among them, any gamer or other advanced user will be able to find the ideal processor for themselves.

Fortunately, AMD does not specialize in any particular segment, but produces models for a wide variety of consumers. This is probably why they achieved such popularity.

Very fast, great stone for the money!
I installed it on GIGABYTE GA-970A-UD3P with DEEPCOOL NEPTWIN V2, 120mm, temperature maximum 30 degrees.
Flaws Comment

This miracle stone drives very well, I took a cooler for it with a reserve, but after working at the standard frequency I realized that overclocking is not needed yet, as it copes well as is.
I recommend it.

    1. 8 cores, 4Hz
    2. In some resource-intensive games, the 3770 is even faster (it's not true that it's not suitable for games).
    3. Amazingly supports multitasking (speaking as an avid Intel sheep).
    4. Windows Experience Index 7 x64 7.8
For comparison, INTEL Core i7 3770K processors http://www..site/catalog/parts/cpu/722849/ have performance indexes of 7.7 (purchased and configured by me, used in purchased configurations http://www..site/configurator/ q2778722/)
    5. Doesn't heat up. Yes, it doesn’t heat up (depending on how you cool it). I have this http://www.site/catalog/parts/cooling_systems/coolers/621824/ in this purchased configuration http://www.site/configurator/q3666916/
    6. Value for money. Very cheap and powerful processor. Please don’t say that, let’s say, the 3970X is cooler, because you’ll compare the price with those that are cooler, and at the same time the performance indexes with a lot of threading.
7.AMD. Yes, this is also a virtue, now I see it, realize it, confirm it and am convinced of everything from personal experience.
Flaws
No. I don’t see any disadvantages of this processor, only some advantages.
Comment

Honestly, hats off. I never thought that I would say this, but now there is a lot to think about, and looking at the TOP, for the sake of the fact that it is TOP, and buying not the latest TOP models, but earlier ones, is like putting a motor on a bicycle and stubbornly declaring, that you are a broken biker.

This processor is remarkable in many ways and can handle any task (games, video encoding, archiving, etc.).
The processor is very powerful, since it is essentially a modified FX8150 with bugs fixed and an increased frequency.
But you shouldn’t expect it to solve any problems you want. The CPU itself does not work the result of the assigned tasks depends on the entire system as a whole (MB system logic, operating speed and memory capacity, HDD speed, BIOS settings, cooling, quality of the power supply, direct hands and crooked convolutions of the user...).
It would be foolish to believe that by installing this processor, all your games will “just fly” on the video card built into the motherboard, or that office applications will stop freezing with 2 GB of RAM.
The biggest achievement of this processor is the price/performance ratio.
A top processor from AMD costs $200, a top processor from Intel costs $1000 there is a difference in performance, of course, but in most applications it is 10-40%, and this does not cover the difference in price.
Flaws
This processor has no disadvantages; the low price covers everything.
But the system logic that supports the FX amd 990x and 990fx processors has a lot of shortcomings: there is no support for pci-e 3, no support for four-channel memory, officially support for memory no higher than 1866 mhz (above 2133 mhz memory marked 2200 and 2400 becomes unstable) and the volume is maximum 32GB.
ASUS promised to release a version of the SABERTOOTH 990FX with pci-e 3 support, but almost a year has passed since the promise, and the card has not appeared.

The main disadvantage of AMD is that the excellent AMD 7900 series video cards on Intel of the same performance are 20% faster than on the motherboard's own CPU and 990fx chips.

8 cores, clock frequency 4.0, boxed cooler easily copes with heat, and in general it’s stone cold!
It started without problems. For the average user, this is how it should be! Bought it, launched it, use it.
Flaws
There is actually no thermal paste, maybe that’s for the best!) I bought it in advance...)
Comment

And now a comment for those who like to pray for Intel!)
In principle, the main competitors of this processor are the i5-3570K and i7-3770K!
Of course, the 3770K is a little faster, but the price is 2 times higher!
The 3570K costs about 1 or 2 thousand rubles more, but it doesn’t look as interesting as the FX 8350!
And if you consider that support for multithreading in modern applications has only improved over the past year, then the very respectable position of the FX-8350 against the background of the Core i5-3570K is not at all surprising. In other words, in any resource-intensive applications that are capable of parallelizing their load across a large number of cores, the FX-8350 will clearly be better than its direct Intel competitor. At the same time, it does not reach the performance level of the Core i7-3770K, which is enhanced by Hyper-Threading technology, but do not forget about the price: the price difference is practically 2 times!
Considering all this, I personally have the opinion that in terms of price/performance/quality/potential, the FX 8350 turned out to be the best.
This is my personal opinion, based not only on analytics, but also on experience using this processor at work! Rendering, Matcad and other engineering and computing packages all this is paired with a GF 760 2Gb video card, it works daily and stably in parallel on 2 monitors without problems!
Tested at home on Crysis 3, Metro 2033 Last Night, Battlefield 4 and TES: Skirym
In a resolution of 1920x1080, with 8Gb RAM it works at the highest settings without problems!
I didn’t count the frames I test according to the principle it’s comfortable for the eyes this is the main thing!
I'm not going to count parrots!)))
