A few months ago I started noticing problems with my phone: it would turn off at 20% charge and be very slow. After talking with knowledgeable people, I found out that the problem was with the battery.
The original battery of my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 lasted me a little over 2 years, which is not a lot. I had no desire to purchase a new one from Samsung, since there is a chance that after a certain period of time I will encounter the same trouble. I was advised to take a reinforced Chinese-made battery, which the owners of this smartphone have successfully used for some time.
After thinking for a few days, I ordered a Heliotion battery from AliExpress, which has a capacity of 9600 mAh, which is three times more than the original (3220 mAh). I paid a little more than 1,600 rubles for it, which I consider a very good purchase, considering the fact that a new battery from Samsung will cost 2,000 rubles.
In general, I decided to do a short review of the enhanced battery for the Galaxy Note 4, and also leave my review about it. This device is one of the last flagships of the company that received a removable battery, so replacing it is not difficult.
The battery comes in technical packaging, that is, in a plastic bag. There is no documentation, but, in fact, it is not needed, because everything is already clear: we insert the battery instead of the standard one and put on the cover. All.

If you have an SM-N9100 (Chinese version), then the 9600 mAh Heliotion simply won’t fit inside the case.
The Heliotion company certainly did not deceive with the capacity of its product - it is a real 9600 mAh. I did not conduct any tests with special devices, but I was convinced that the capacity corresponded to the declared capacity when I used the battery for some time. I got fairly accurate numbers using standard battery usage statistics. On average, a phone with this power source lasts 4 days, a little more than 10 hours of which the screen is on. I even played games and used mobile data quite often.
Since the Heliotion battery is three times larger than the original one, it no longer fits under the standard cover of the Galaxy Note 4. Therefore, it comes with a special cover that also acts as a bumper case. The material from which it is made is rough and soft - I like it. There are “spikes” on the sides that prevent the phone from slipping out of your hands, although they do their job well, they seem too sharp to me.
Obviously, the advantages of the Heliotion 9600 mAh are its high autonomy and portability, since you do not have to separately carry a several times larger PowerBank with you. On the other hand, you are faced with a number of troubles.
Now let's look at the disadvantages of this battery. Firstly, these are the dimensions. The height of the smartphone body with this battery is 15.5 cm and the width is 8.8 cm. Its thickness is 22 mm, while the thickness of the Galaxy Note 4 with a standard power source is only 8.5 mm. However, the main disadvantage of a reinforced battery is its weight. Together with the cover, it weighs 228 grams, and if we add the mass of the phone itself, then in total we get more than 300 grams.
After using the batteries for just over a month, I have become completely accustomed to the large device, and now I enjoy the fact that I no longer have to charge it every day anymore. I also saved quite a bit.
Separately, I would like to note that Heliotion has a built-in NFC module - this function is not often found in batteries from third-party manufacturers. Naturally, I tested its performance. This module functions no worse than what is in the original battery. Yes, the NFC module is hidden in the battery, and not in the cover of the smartphone.
Last but not least, the reinforced battery cover has all the necessary openings for microphones, speaker, S Pen, microUSB, 3.5mm audio jack and IR blaster. The speakerphone grille is now on the bottom edge, which means the sound is directed downward. The volume and power buttons, I must say, click just as well as before.
The Heliotion 9600 mAh battery will work well on any Samsung Galaxy Note 4, but to get the most out of it, I recommend installing a custom core that supports enhanced power supplies. The problem is that the stock core is designed for the original battery (3220 mAh) and it simply does not see the entire 9600 mAh capacity of the Heliotion. Installing the required kernel is a simple process. If you have ever installed custom firmware, then it will be easy to figure it out. We need a custom recovery, so go to this instruction on our website and install it.
When you already have a custom recovery, download the latest version of the SpaceLemon custom kernel from this link. Select a ZIP archive whose name contains the inscription “zerolemon”. It means that the kernel has support for enhanced batteries. There is also a version without superuser rights (no root), if for some reason you don’t need them. It is worth noting that the kernel is only compatible with the N910C and H models.
How to install a custom kernel:
- We launch the smartphone in recovery mode. To do this, you first need to turn it off completely, and then press the following buttons simultaneously: “Volume Up”, “Home” and “Power”. Hold them until the screen lights up.
- Next, TWRP will require access to system partitions. Be sure to enable it by dragging the slider at the bottom of the display from left to right.
- On the main screen, go to the “Install” section, go to the folder where the kernel was downloaded (usually the Download folder), and then tap on it.
- Now drag the slider from left to right to complete the installation. When finished, reboot by clicking the “Reboot System” button.

The replacement for my original battery turned out to be worthy. The product of the Chinese manufacturer Heliotion met all my expectations both in design and ergonomics, and in autonomy. Sometimes, upon contact with the surface of the phone, it can make an unpleasant squeak, but this often happens if you specifically crush it in your hands. I also felt that the sound from the speakerphone was a bit degraded, although this was only noticeable when listening to music.Such products are produced for many smartphones that also have removable batteries.
