Description Reviews (0) Screenshots

What to do when very important photos have disappeared, or suddenly due to a system error they were deleted from your PC, camera or flash drive? There is a good way to restore them and bring them back “to life” - just enter the request in the address bar: “program for photo recovery.” Without a doubt, one of the application options offered to you will be a utility called RS Photo Recovery. It can help you get back your photos lost from a USB drive, mobile phone, your PC, camera or other storage device.

RS Photo Recovery is a program that can recover lost photos or images of any format after removing the drive, as well as those that were lost due to a virus infection of your PC or laptop, formatting of your hard drive, mobile phone, flash drive or camera.

The built-in program will help you recover deleted or lost photos in just a couple of steps, and does not take much time. If you use the unique selection and preview capabilities that the utility provides, you can select the photos that are most important to you. And then you are guaranteed to recover exactly the information you need.

Among other things, this photo recovery program finds, among other data, only photographs and images that are important to you. If you use RS Photo Recovery, you don't have to wait for the PC to scan all the disks.

Agree, this takes a lot of time and adds headaches to you, and if you add to the list of forced activities the process of searching for the necessary data from all recovered files, then it seems that it is easier to come to terms with the loss of information and not subscribe to such a labor-intensive and painstaking process. It’s good that the RS Photo Recovery program has brought all of the above actions to full automation and does not require additional body movements from its users.

If all the previously discussed programs are aimed specifically at recovering photos, then such a useful tool as Recuva is suitable for recovering other types of files. An easy-to-use program created by the authors is capable of finding various types of files. It’s also nice that the developers practically did not limit users of the free version, so the program can be fully used without investing money.

In this comparison review, we will help readers who are looking for a way to recover deleted photos. We will recommend the best file recovery programs that recognize the SD card and find images on solid-state drives such as a USB flash drive or SSD. Answers to your questions are published at the end of the review. So if something is unclear to you or a certain program for recovering deleted photos has caused difficulties, ask your questions through the contact form.

Each photo recovery program must perform several functions:

  • scanning and searching for deleted images of known formats (such as JPG, GIF, PNG, TIFF, RAW, etc.) and other files on the source
  • support for various storage media and devices (HDD, SD card, flash drive, digital camera, camera, etc.)
  • Recovering photos that are partially damaged or completely deleted

After connecting the camera or mobile phone to the computer, the card will not be added as a separate drive, users may need to remove the card from the phone or tablet, camera, connect them to the PC via a card reader. Alternatively, a laptop's built-in card reader. In any case, readers should remove damaged SD cards from their cameras or mobile phones immediately as there may be a chance that the device will overwrite deleted or damaged photos on the SD. And this can lead to complete loss of photos and other graphic files for digital devices.

List of programs participating in the review:

Recovering deleted photos in PhotoRec program

Free and best photo resuscitation program Photorec. Works with all OS. Comes complete with a functional command utility TestDisk necessary to recover deleted partitions. There is a very basic interface, as well as a more advanced graphical one. In both versions, users can select a disk, click the scan button, select deleted or damaged photos, graphics. You also need to select a location for the files to be restored (it is very desirable - another disk, not an SD card!).

I hope this guide to free programs helped you answer the question of how to get back deleted photos. If not, then refer to other sections on this site: I have collected many different articles that relate to multimedia information recovery for Android, MAC and Windows.

Recuva is the best program to recover deleted photos

Recuva will help you get back deleted photos

In our opinion, Recuva can be called the best file recovery program. On the one hand, it is free, on the other hand, the functionality is quite sufficient for the most common scenarios. A notable feature is the deep scanning function: it increases the likelihood of finding photos, although it significantly slows down the scanning speed.

Pandora Recovery - a program for recovering photos and other data

Pandora Photo Recovery is “omnivorous”: it works with both photo and video materials

Pandora Recovery is a free program for recovering deleted photos. High-quality restoration of photos and images under Windows. Pandora works similarly to Recuva: you need to connect an SD card via a card reader, then start scanning. If the files are not found, activate deep scanning. This option is optimal for formatted cards. A deep scan in Pandora Recovery will take longer, but the search quality will be higher than with a quick scan.

Pandora Recovery allows you to find and recover deleted images extracted from formatted volumes for NTFS and FAT file systems. Pandora will scan your hard drive and create an index of existing and deleted files and directories (folders) on the logical drive of your computer, in a supported photo format. Once the data scanning is completed, you will have full control over the found deleted photos, after which you can successfully recover them. You can view existing and deleted images in a tree view, use the search function to find a particular erased photo. The Pandora Recovery utility can search for destroyed photos using several parameters. This:

  • full or partial name of the image,
  • size of the picture or photograph,
  • file creation date
  • date of last access to the image

The key feature of the program is that Pandora Recovery checks deleted data of the specified types (images, videos and even text files), without performing recovery of deleted photos. This feature is really valuable in terms of savings if the information was located on the same disk and you don’t have much free time.

Using the capabilities of Pandora Recovery, you can view several types of images (JPG/PNG/TIFF, etc.) and text file types (txt, ini, rtf, etc.). Quick View allows you to view content as text if you don't have a graphical viewer at hand.

Using Quick View, you can select a deleted photo or click the Quick Preview button by right-clicking on the deleted photo and selecting the Quick View option for the photo. After which it will not be difficult to recover deleted photos.

Finally, Pandora Recovery, like any other deleted image recovery program, allows you to recover deleted photos without any restrictions. Please note that deleted photos cannot be recovered if the original file location has been overwritten by the operating system to store different content. Most likely, the restored image will be damaged.

Recovering photos using Stellar Phoenix Mac Photo Recovery

Another photo recovery program, Stellar Phoenix Mac Photo Recovery, works with OS X 10.5 and higher and allows you to recover deleted photos and videos in particular. To get started, connect the memory card to the card reader so that the program begins reading deleted data from the disk. There is also a build of Photo Recovery for Windows.

Photo Recovery has a corresponding photo recovery option - “Recover Photo, Audio & Video”. It is available in the left panel, where the contents of the disk are displayed: photos, documents, other files. After outputting the contents of the disk, you can run a scan or a thorough scan. Among other things, there is a preview for recovering deleted photos.

A separate point worth mentioning is the recovery of photos from a flash drive. Stellar Phoenix easily picks up a USB drive and reads data from it, scanning the device just like a regular disk.

Stellar Phoenix Mac Photo Recovery application interface

Recovering deleted photos using DiskDigger Pro

DiskDigger is another good program for recovering deleted files, its functionality is somewhat similar to Recuva. It is noteworthy that the DiskDigger program has several editions, including Pro and a mobile version for Android OS.

Among the key features of the program inherent in any recovery program, DiskDigger Pro includes excellent support for standard file systems (NTFS, exFAT, FAT12, FAT16, FAT32), all known file types of deleted photos, flexible filtering and convenient sorting of data, including photos.

The Dig Deeper scanning function allows you to “dig” deeper than similar resuscitation tools (compared to the same). The most commonly recovered formats include documents, archives, music and video.

Among the advanced functions of Disk Digger is scanning virtual disks in VHD and VDI formats. This function is convenient if you have made an image (“snapshot”) of the device’s file system and want to scan it on your computer.

The DiskDigger utility supports all current operating systems of the Windows family (from XP to Windows 10).

Resume. In this review, we looked at several programs for recovering deleted photos along with effective ways to recover them. If these applications are not enough for you, refer to the File Recovery section, where you can familiarize yourself with all the necessary tools.

Answers to readers' questions

I deleted photos/screenshots from my phone but I can still recover them using photo recovery software – diskdigger, etc. Tell me, how to delete a photo forever?

Answer. To reliably delete photos from your phone, we would recommend 2 programs:

  1. To delete from the internal memory of the phone, use the Undeleter program, Secure delete option
  2. To securely delete files from a memory card without the possibility of recovery, use the Secure Overwrite function in the Recuva program ()

I have this problem. Recently, a folder with photos I needed was accidentally deleted from my gallery. How can I restore them? I really need them, please help me. What do you need to download to get back deleted photos?

Answer. PhotoRec, Recuva, PandoraRecovery, etc. are all photo recovery programs. We have no right to select the best among them, but it is clear that it is worth using them. As for the photos that disappeared from the gallery: the photos were probably deleted from the external memory card. If we are talking about the Android OS, then you should scan the /DCIM/CAMERA section on the SD card (you can take it out of the phone and connect it to the computer via a card reader).

I accidentally posted photos and screenshots and I can’t find them. It seems like I tried all the options, but all in vain. Screenshots and videos are of a personal nature. Help me choose a program.

Answer. It’s not a fact that you need a photo recovery program. We advise you to remember what happened to the photographs. If you did not delete them, but forgot their location, use any file manager and try to find photos by parameters such as date, file type or name mask.

After restoring the micro SD with the CardRecovery program, the photos found on the card were saved as CR files. The computer does not open this extension. Help solve this problem.

Answer. The solution options are as follows:

  1. Try manually renaming the file to jpg or another extension (if you remember the original one). After that, try opening the photo.
  2. If the photo still does not open or is displayed incorrectly, most likely the image has not been restored because it was overwritten by other data.
  3. Try another photo recovery program (see list above) that does not rename files or searches more deeply for deleted images.

My photo albums disappeared when I decided to create albums by name and sort photos by event. I moved the photos by event. Then I was warned that there is no disk space, delete some images. I started deleting photos. But then I saw that the albums had disappeared - even those in which I had not deleted a single photo. I don't know what to do or how to get the images back to disk!

Answer. As I understand it, you want to recover photos on your computer. Perhaps the program you used to create albums crashed and broke the album structure. I advise you to first go to Explorer or Total Commander to make sure that the files have been deleted. They may still be stored on disk.

If we assume that the photos were deleted, the chances are theoretically not that great. As you said, there was no disk space, so there's a good chance the photos were overwritten with other information. In any case, try one of the programs for recovering deleted photos: PhotoRec, Recuva, R-Studio or Minitool Power Data Recovery.

The problem is this: I sent the photos to Gul Disk and calmly deleted them from the gallery. They did not have time to be saved on disk. How can I recover my photos that I copied to Google Drive?

Answer. Obviously you haven't synced your files to the Google Drive cloud. Just in case, check again to see if there are any files on Google Drive and other devices with which you synchronized the cloud.

If the photos are still not saved, use any program to recover deleted photos. DiskDigger, PhotoRec or Recuva would be great choices. Launch any of these programs and specify the location of the photos you deleted to scan.

I have a Samsung Grand 2 (Samsung Galaxy Grand 2), it has a 16 GB flash drive. I transferred all the photos to a memory card and for some reason some of the images are black or half deformed. Tell me what to do, can it be fixed? The photos are a pity, I really need to restore them back to my phone.

Answer. To recover deleted photos, again, you can use the desktop programs mentioned in this guide (Pandora Recovery, Rekuva, etc.). Considering that the photos were on the memory card, the task is greatly simplified. You need to connect the SD card via a card reader to the computer and use the standard method, using the photo recovery wizard, to try to return the files to the card.

I accidentally deleted several photos I took on my phone. I do not and have not had any programs like Recycle Bin, etc. Please help me recover images without downloading any applications. Phone model – Lenovo Moto X

Answer. We have to disappoint you: you still have to download a photo recovery program. How do you imagine the process of recovering data on a phone without using software? Make a minimal effort, install the programs (read this article carefully), run the step-by-step wizard - and perhaps you will be able to get your photos back. However, there is a way to do without recovery programs: turn to paid recovery services. Do you need it?

I downloaded a photo recovery program, I found everything I needed, now I want to restore it, some of the photos were restored and then it turned out that it requires a code?

Answer. This means that the recovery program is paid. You have two options - pay for the full version of the application by going to the developer's website, or find alternative recovery applications. Among them are Recuva, TestDisk and PhotoRec. Reviews of these resuscitators are available on our website.

The phone memory and the card memory are full. I exchanged the card for another empty one. And all the photos that were in the phone’s memory disappeared. There was a folder with photos - it disappeared. I'm panicking, a lot of children's photos have been deleted. How to restore? Nobody deleted the files. We tried to download a photo recovery program - still no photos.

Answer. We can assume that the photos you are looking for are on the memory card that you removed from the phone. We advise you to connect it via a card reader to your phone and check it. In this case, there is no need to restore deleted photos.

If the files were overwritten in the phone's internal memory (even though there was no free space available), there is a possibility that the photos were deleted forever. At the same time, you can try PhotoRec, Recuva or DiskDigger (deep scanning) to recover photos.

Accidentally deleted important photos on my phone. I searched the entire Internet in search of a program for photo recovery on Android, but I still couldn’t find a good one (either you need root rights, or the program doesn’t see the phone at all). All hope is in you, if you help, I will be immensely grateful.

Answer. There are some peculiarities when restoring files on your phone. The fact is that the files can be located both in the internal memory of the phone and on the SD card. In the second case, almost any photo recovery program that works with memory cards connected to a PC will do. This could be Recuva, for example.

If the files are located in the internal memory of the phone, try a program for Android called Undeleter.

3 days ago I printed photos at the photo printing center from my phone. The man connected the phone, copied 3 photos and immediately pulled the cord out of the phone.

At home, I opened the gallery and realized that the flash drive did not show anything, it was supposedly empty. I connect it to a PC - the same thing, although the memory is full of 3 GB, there are photos of game, very important.

Total Commander, Explorer also don’t show anything, I downloaded Far but it doesn’t see the flash drive as a separate disk.

I tried Undeleter for Android, but this photo recovery program does not find the photos because they are not deleted. The archiver also does not see the flash drive, and through my computer it does not issue the “archive and unpack” command in the menu.

I have Wileyfox spark, inserting an SD card, it formatted it and now it’s like its internal memory, so on the PC it is visible as a phone and not a flash drive
What should I do, how to recover the data? Do you really have to turn to specialists?

Answer. It is clear that file managers like Total Commander will not display deleted files on a flash drive. First, the files need to be restored. Any sensible photo recovery utility will do for this (see. Initially, the deleted files will not be visible, you need to start scanning, after which the photos may be available for saving.

Undeleter for Android is, to put it mildly, not the best program for recovering data from a memory card. It is useful for searching for deleted files in the internal memory of a mobile device.

2 days ago I discovered that I accidentally deleted a folder. I started scouring the Internet, looking for instructions on how to restore files. In 2 days I tried many applications, and today I came across your program for recovering deleted files. I did everything as written on the site, found my accidentally deleted folders, selected them and clicked “Save” - and then I got the “Invalid symbol” message.

I read in one article that you need to select a folder in English, I chose the DIR31 folder (it contains my folders, which are written in Russian), the result is the same - “Incorrect character”. What to do? How to recover files?

Answer. You need to download a file recovery program that does not generate such an error. Try Recuva or DiskDigger. Do they give an error when saving?

Another trick: you can not save the folder, but selectively restore its contents to disk.

I recently cleaned my phone, deleted all unnecessary information on it, and along with it, inadvertently, all the photos stored on the memory card. Can I use deleted photo recovery software to recover my photos?

Answer. Pay attention to the following recovery programs: PhotoRec, CardRecovery, Recuva, DiskDigger Pro. They work with memory cards (you must first connect the card via a card reader to the PC) and support graphic formats during recovery.

Many photos were stored on a flash drive in the Galaxy Note 2 phone, the folder was called “Photos”. I bought a new phone, moved this same flash drive into it and then noticed that the folder on the flash drive was called “Photo.0” and it was empty: (And the original one is no longer there. The strangest thing is that if you connect the phone to the computer, go to the flash drive, press in the root of the properties, the system says that 11 GB are occupied, but if you select all the objects in the root of this flash drive and view their size, the system already says that only 4 GB are occupied. What happened, are there any hidden files?

Answer. It's possible that the photos are still stored on the memory card, but due to errors in the file table, they are unreadable. This situation is quite common.

In order to find hidden files, you can use proven software - for example, PhotoRec, Recuva or CardRecovery or any other photo recovery program. Connect the flash drive via a card reader to the computer and run a search, preferably with the deep scanning option.

I really want to restore the photos that were deleted yesterday. All the programs I downloaded return a bunch of photos (more than 1000), long deleted or not even deleted, but saved in the Gallery. The memory instantly fills up. Finding mine in this mountain is almost impossible.

ps. (yesterday I deleted more than 100 photos). Question: is there a program that narrows parameters, for example by date?

Answer. Almost any photo recovery program can sort by date. Another thing is that recovered images do not always contain correct metadata (such as date, title, other exif data). Therefore, if there are really a lot of photos:

  • open the preview and delete all damaged photos
  • if files contain metadata, sort them by date
  • if the date is not saved, sort by photo title (Android saves the date in the title)

If sorting doesn't work, you'll have to go through all the thumbnails of your saved photos. Any graphics viewer (ASDSee, IrfanView, XNview) is suitable for this.
