Choosing a smart watch. The best smartwatches: rating and reviews

And let's touch on the women's topic a little on the eve of March 8. What if someone wants to please their beloved (or themselves!) with a new gadget? And a smart watch is a good option - it’s a useful thing, not everyone has one yet, and they can also be beautiful, yes, yes!

I will indicate prices in dollars, since not all models are available in Russia. But if you wish, you can always order from abroad. Even if not by March 8th. So...

1. , $600

Perhaps, among all smart watch manufacturers, Huawei pays the most attention to the fair half of humanity. And he does it with style. The case is gold-plated and decorated with Swarovski crystals, and can be complemented with a matching dial. A wide selection of compact straps made from genuine Italian leather is available. There is a whole section on the website for ladies' watches. But the price is “biting”.

2. Huawei Watch Elegant, $500

A similar Huawei watch is a little cheaper, but without Swarovski stones (pictured on the left).

3. , $329.99

Rose gold-plated case, a set of cute straps, Android Wear OS and a relatively low price.

4. , $200

Previous Pebble models could hardly be called beautiful, but the latest generation of round gadgets is even nothing. Plus, women's colors are available, including gold. This is the most inexpensive watch on our list. And thanks to the fact that a color e-Ink display is used, they can boast of relatively decent autonomy (about 48 hours on a single charge).

5. Withings Activité, $450

The downside to most smartwatches is that they are quite bulky. That’s why not all women like it (and it doesn’t matter how many diamonds there are on the case). The Withings model is an exception. The thin and compact case with a white dial looks very elegant. The French leather strap is also not bad.

The device is made in Switzerland, a full-fledged mechanism is used - with a real dial and hands. In this regard, the watch can be called the least functional compared to the mentioned competitors. It's more of a fitness tracker. But Withings Activité will withstand immersion in water to a depth of 50 meters.

By the way, there is also the Withings Activité Pop option, with silicone straps and made in China, but for $150!

6. Rose Gold, $449.99

Judging by the reviews, today this is the most successful “smart” watch (but according to tradition, Samsung shares the palm with Apple here). Simple and convenient control of the “bezel”, a beautiful proprietary interface based on Tizen, a large selection of nice leather straps. Except that they are quite massive. The 18-karat rose gold-plated model will cost a third more than the regular Gear S2.

7. Samsung Gear S2 Classic Platinum, $449.99

Please note that it is now fashionable to make women’s gadgets from gold or, even more so, rose gold. And for some reason they forgot about the pink color as such, well, maybe that’s for the best. If gold makes you sick, then pay attention to the platinum option.

And if the included black strap seems too dull, you can choose any other for $59.99.

8., from $349 almost to infinity

And where would we be without them? A very beautiful and quite popular watch among “applofans”. Apple does not have a purely ladies' option, but there are many customization options. The watch itself is available in two case sizes - 38 mm and 42 mm. It is believed that the first ones are more suitable for women, as they are more compact.

You can choose the color of the case according to your taste - there is silver, gold, rose gold... There are a huge number of straps - from any materials, any color and any design. There are even luxury models from the fashion brand Hermes (they cost much more than the watches themselves). If branded straps seem too expensive to you, then there are even more third-party options, both not very cheap and cheap - even if you wear something different every day.

In conclusion, we can say that watches as such ceased to be a very useful thing many years ago and moved into the premium segment, becoming an element of style and status. Smart watches have once again given this “format” a benefit, but it’s nowhere without style, because this is a gadget that is worn on the wrist and catches the eye. It's easy to stand out with body colors and a variety of straps and headbands. And not only for women, but, of course, for men as well. Another question: do you personally need a smart watch?

Let's start in order.

Inexpensive smart watches

It’s hardly a secret in which country affordable electronics are produced. Ordering goods directly from China is already a feature of national shopping. And a considerable number of domestic online stores do not purchase from a local wholesale base. Simple advice: if you want cheaper, choose products from trusted manufacturers from the Middle Kingdom (for example, Xiaomi, aka Huami, Amazfit). But it is better to avoid vague remarks with unknown names. In addition, many of the declared characteristics of such products often turn out to be software fakes.

Children's watches

This group of products includes everything listed above, but with a small addition. The fact is that smart watches of some brands produced in China and certified for Russia are counterfeited by other Chinese. Choose your store carefully. After all, okay, when the cunning Asians installed a battery weaker than declared, what if the plastic turns out to be harmful? When purchasing at retail, it generally makes sense to always check the certification for children's products.

Smartwatches in the mid-range price range

This segment most often includes smartwatch models with a good quality-to-price ratio from reputable manufacturers. But even here there are enough seemingly dissatisfied users, the essence of whose complaints, translated from negative into Russian, is something like this - they want everything to work better than in expensive premium models, but they don’t have to pay extra for it.

Don't overestimate the capabilities of smart watches. Example: Wrist-based heart rate monitors are not medical or professional devices. Their readings are somewhat average. And scolding a pedometer for reacting to hand waves and shaking is a completely thankless task.

Expensive premium Smart Watch

There is little reason for quibbling here, but still. Improved characteristics and an abundance of various functions inevitably reduce battery life. And there's nothing you can do about it. Some new ultra-compact and super-efficient power source is not yet visible on the horizon.

One more thing. The declared support for LTE based on eSIM in some smartwatches (Apple, Samsung) is not yet provided by Russian telecom operators. And it is not a fact that the situation will improve in the near future. Therefore, it is realistic to rely on this function only when traveling to countries where it works.

Imagine, they really exist! In this article we have collected for you the best models of women's smartwatches.

If a year ago we tried to select a collection of the best smart watches for girls, we would have been completely disappointed. But progress is moving and now the electronics industry can already offer the fair sex truly feminine gadgets that they don’t have to bashfully hide under their sleeves.

For iPhone owners, the best smartwatch will always be the Apple Watch. Apple has so far released only 2 watch models - the original Apple Watch and the next generation Series 2. They differ little in design, but they are attractive with GPS and a waterproof case.

Apple Watch Series 2 smartwatch

Please note: Apple Watch smartwatches are generally quite large for fragile women’s wrists, so we recommend trying them on in a store before purchasing to find the right size.

Like the Series 1, Apple introduced the Series 2 smartwatch in two sizes - 38 and 42 mm, sacrificing battery capacity in the smaller version. However, the Cupertines have pleased us with a variety of designs, as well as a rich assortment of stylish straps and accessories for the Apple Watch. Although Apple's invention only vaguely resembles a regular wristwatch, the company tried to make the Series 2 absolutely flawless, so it will look pretty nice on a woman's hand.

Built-in Apple Watch apps work even when not connected to your iPhone. There are no lags when using the Series 2 watch.

The only drawback is the weak battery, which barely lasts for just one day.

Price Watch Series 2: 21,890 rubles.

Fossil's new slim Q Accomplice hybrid smartwatch looks simple and stylish, just like a traditional wristwatch. They are very light and fit comfortably on the wrist.

Hybrid smartwatch Fossil Q Accomplice

Q Accomplice allows you to monitor physical activity and sleep phases. This data can be viewed in the Fossil Q application. Notification settings are also located there - vibration and arrow movement. That is, for example, if a message arrives on WhatsApp, the Q Accomplice hands will instantly move by 1 hour to notify you about it.

We also liked the ability to customize the functions of the three buttons on the right side of the watch case. With their help, you can control your smartphone’s camera, player, etc.

Price Q Accomplice: 9,190 rubles.

If you like monochrome design, then the Nokia Steel HR hybrid (the legendary Finnish mobile company bought the Withings brand) is just what you need.

Women's smartwatch Nokia Steel HR

Steel HR smartwatches are designed for those who care about their style. They look like an ordinary watch, but they can count steps, monitor sleep, measure heart rate, show who is calling and upcoming events in the calendar. All this data is displayed in the updated Health Mate app. And most impressive is the battery life, which reaches 20-25 days.

The compact Steel HR watch is available in two sizes - 36 and 40 mm. Both versions have a water resistance rating of 5 ATM.

The only thing we didn't like was the lack of GPS and the ugly design of the charger.

Price Steel HR: 10,680 rubles.

The new LG Watch Style features simple design and functionality. They are mainly designed for notifications and physical activity monitoring.

Smartwatch for women LG Watch Style

A special advantage of the Watch Style is its thinness. This smartwatch is thinner than the Watch Sport version and most other models. Also, they are very light, much lighter than they seem.

The compact body of the smartwatch, just 10.8 mm thick, is equipped with a round 1.2-inch P-OLED screen.

Watch Style runs on Wear OS 2.0 with a collection of cool new watch faces. Unfortunately, the device lacks NFC to make contactless payments. This chip had to be sacrificed to reduce the thickness. A harmless decision from the developers, although not the most pleasant.

The Watch Style's price isn't too high, so you shouldn't expect a large selection of features and sensors. The point of this device is that it looks like a regular watch, but has a number of advanced features.

The Watch Style smartwatch is available in three colors: gold, titanium and silver.

Price Watch Style: 12,460 rubles.

Michael Kors Access - Bradshaw

Michael Kors is the first major fashion brand to release a wristwatch with Android Wear OS.

Fashionable hybrid Michael Kors Access - Bradshaw

The Bradshaw Access model is exclusively for women. Frankly speaking, the dimensions of the device disappointed us - 44.5 mm wide, 14 mm thick, and a total weight of 110 g! This is much larger than any other watch, including the women's smartwatches listed here. However, it is worth considering that this is still a fashion accessory, so size matters, but convenience is secondary. In addition, in women's fashion there is a concept of a “man's look,” so the Bradshaw Access can easily be passed off as “your boyfriend’s watch.” Although, the choice is yours.

The Bradshaw Access smartwatch has the ability to customize dials; their style can automatically change as the time of day changes. And of course, Michael Kors deserves credit for delivering the latest version of Android Wear OS 2.0 with its new round user interface.

The fashion brand also offers a wide range of silicone and leather straps. They are sold separately for $40-50 each.

The Access Bradshaw smartwatch itself is also available in different styles, mostly with a gold finish. Prices range from $395 to $350.

Access Bradshaw price: 20,760 rubles.

Another great Android Wear device for women is the Moto 360 2. The advantage of this smartwatch, just like the Apple Watch, is that it comes in two sizes. In this case it is 42 and 46 mm. In addition, the Moto Maker app allows you to redesign the watch interface to suit your preferences.

Beautiful women's watch Moto 360 2

The round smartwatch Moto 360 2 looks incredibly stylish in a gold case. They suit girls thanks to graceful temples and narrow straps 16 mm wide. Unfortunately, the Moto 360 2 looks quite bulky on a woman's wrist, so keep that in mind.

In terms of functions, Moto 360 2 is practically no different from other smartwatches on Android Wear: regular notifications, a more or less accurate heart rate sensor and voice control.

In our opinion, with Moto 360 2, Motorola has eliminated the annoying shortcomings of the first generation of Moto smartwatches (performance and autonomy), but there were still no significant improvements. If you like the Android Wear OS and you agree to accept all its flaws, then feel free to buy the second generation Moto 360, because... This is an attractive and stylish women's smartwatch for everyday use.

Price Moto 360 2: RUB 17,740.

Pebble Time Round is exactly the smartwatch that will suit every girl. They are thin, light and very comfortable. The only problem is that Fitbit absorbed Pebble. The new owners promise to support Pebble devices until the end of 2017, and then no one knows what will happen.

Stylish women's smart watch Pebble Time Round

As a result of this, Time Rounds are now selling at damn low prices. It is difficult to find a similar analogue that would be as cheap. Unfortunately, this watch lacks the characteristic Pebble feature - long battery life. Time Round will have to be charged every other day. In addition, the display is not LCD, but a simple e-ink.

But all this is not too important, since the Time Round is, first of all, the thinnest and lightest smartwatch of 2017. It weighs only 28 g and is a tiny 7.5 mm thick! For comparison, the LG Watch Style described above is a full 3 mm thicker. In general, Time Round attracts with its miniature size.

The Time Round smartwatch can be worn on a narrow 14 mm strap or a more standard 20 mm wide one. Available in 3 body colors: black, gray and pink. As always, Time Round is compatible with iPhone and Android phones.

In terms of features, with the Time Round you get access to the Pebble Health platform, which allows you to monitor your physical activity and sleep. It includes a number of basic features, but without much bells and whistles.

Time Round price: 4,750 rub.

This smartwatch has a slightly more classic and masculine design compared to the hybrid from Michael Kors. Well, you can tell by the name - Smart Classic.

Fashionable hybrid Hugo Boss Smart Classic

Hugo Boss offers 2 versions of its hybrid smartwatches - in a stainless steel case. steel or gold plated with crocodile leather straps. They are equipped with a digital display, fitness monitoring functions and support notifications from a smartphone.

You can control your Smart Classic smartwatch through the separate Hugo Boss Smart Watch mobile app.

Smart Classic price: RUB 17,500.

Misfit Phase is the debut smartwatch from Misfit. The device combines traditional style, notifications and fitness functions, although the screen is not touch-sensitive.

Misfit Phase Hybrid Watch for Women

The elegant 41mm round watch (Phase is available in only one size) can record sleep phases, count steps, and measure distance traveled. All these statistics are available in the Misfit mobile app.

Interestingly, the Phase's slick analog dial shows more than just the time. Smartwatches can notify about incoming calls, messages, and vibrate slightly. The watch hands change color depending on the type of notification, and the same color is displayed on a small indicator at the bottom of the watch face. This way you will understand what the Misfit Phase smartwatch is telling you.

If you're looking for more customization options, check out Kate Spade's Metro Grand or Fossil's range of hybrid watches.

Misfit Phase price: RUB 10,980.

With its new ZenWatch 3 smartwatch, Asus has finally decided to abandon the square design.

Smartwatch Asus ZenWatch 3

First of all, I would like to note the rather modest price of ZenWatch 3, given that most branded smartwatches sell for $300 or more. However, despite the low price, Asus did not skimp on design. The ZenWatch 3 round watch case is made of stainless steel (316). The expensive design also extends to the straps, which are made of Italian leather or high-quality rubber.

The Zenwatch 3 is less than 10mm thick and has a screen size of 1.39 inches. This smartwatch is available in three colors: silver, rose gold and gunmetal.

By analogy with the previous generation, Zenwatch 3 is protected from water according to the IP67 standard.

ZenWatch 3 price: RUB 13,590

The Huawei Watch smartwatch on Android Wear OS became more bulky in the second generation, and our selection is about women's watches, so we will consider the original. Like Motorola, Huawei made its first smartwatch from stainless steel with a classic round case and did a lot of work on the design. Huawei Watch is available in a wide range of styles and finishes. These smartwatches are designed at the highest level, but it's up to everyone to decide whether they're worth the money.

Female hybrid Huawei Watch

The main advantage of the device is a 1.4-inch screen with a resolution of 400x400. This is currently one of the best displays among smartwatches in 2017. Also, the Huawei Watch case is protected from water according to the IP67 standard.

At 42mm in diameter and 11.3mm thick, the Huawei Watch is essentially the same size as the Moto 360 2, but has a cleaner build with a thinner bezel and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.

Huawei Watch price: RUB 11,800

The Gear S2 smartwatch is now considered a little outdated, but the Classic model is still a good choice for women. They are smaller, lighter and prettier than the Gear S3 models. The Gear S2 Classic also attracts attention with its beginner-friendly Tizen OS and unique rotating bezel. The case colors, rose gold and platinum (pictured), are ideal for girls.

Smartwatch Samsung Gear S2 Classic

Unfortunately, the Gear S2 Classic doesn't have many apps, but almost all the major developers are present in the Tizen catalog. If you are not obsessed with Android Wear, then you can quite comfortably use Tizen OS. The Gear S2 smartwatch only works in tandem with a phone, but thanks to updates, it can even get some of the features of the Gear S3.

It is important to note that the Gear S2 Classic is almost the only Samsung smartwatch that suits girls. We hope that at least when developing the future Gear S4, Samsung will realize that smartwatches are needed not only by men.

Gear S2 Classic price: RUB 11,210

Coming soon...

The second women's smartwatch from Michael Kors was shown at Baselworld. They are equipped with Android Wear 2.0 OS and an interesting MySocial application that allows you to use photos from your Instagram as the background of the watch face. Cute.

Stylish smart watch Michael Kors Access Sofie

The Michael Kors Access Sofie smartwatch is available in 8 different styles with 7 different bands. It is important that the smartwatch screen is completely round - without a flat bottom. In addition, the Access Sofie is thinner than the previous Access Bradshaw watches, which we wrote about above.

Pricing information should appear soon; the release date is currently set for “late 2017.”

This is a rather unusual hybrid watch - the first attempt by the fashion brand Marc Jacobs. They're a fun take on Marc Jacobs' existing line of watches. The Riley has an analog watch face, but still supports smart features.

Women's smartwatch Marc Jacobs Riley

The Marc Jacobs Riley hybrid is compatible with iOS and Android phones. The watch can track physical activity, send notifications from your phone, and three buttons on the body can be easily configured to remotely control your smartphone.

So far we've only seen white and black plastic Rileys, but we hope that by the time sales start in the fall, the lineup will expand significantly.

Another hybrid from Fossil Group. The DKNY Minute smartwatch offers exactly the same features as the Fossil Q and Marc Jacobs hybrids described above. But this time the design is more chic. We've seen several DKNY Minute styles in promo images and at Baselworld. All models featured the DKNY logo in the center of the dial.

Smartwatch DKNY Minute

Note that this fashionable watch boasts a very long battery life, although it runs on a regular battery (tablet). DKNY Minute tracks your physical activity and vibrates when you receive calls, SMS or app notifications. In this case, the hybrid does not need to be charged every night.

The Tory Burch Collins hybrid watch for women will be released in 4 styles at the end of 2017. This is the next wrist device from the Fossil Group. It supports monitoring of sleep and physical activity, there is vibration and the ability to configure functions for the buttons on the right side (control of the player, smartphone camera, etc.). We don't have any other photos of the hybrid or information about its price yet.

Tory Burch Collins Smartwatch

Kate Spade Hybrids 2017

We were able to try out the Kate Spade Metro Grand hybrid watch, but found it to be too bulky for a woman's wrist, although it does have an attractive design. But we have good news that at the end of 2017, Kate Spade plans to release a whole series of new, smaller and thinner hybrid watches. The names of the devices have not yet been announced, but judging by the promotional images, they will be quirky and fun, in the usual Kate Spade style.

Kate Spade Hybrid Series 2017

*All prices in this article are approximate. The final cost of the device may vary depending on the selected model and store conditions/promotions.

If your budget does not allow you to purchase an Apple Watch 2 series, or a Samsung Gear S3, then do not despair. There are other smartwatches that you can buy for a more reasonable price. Given Pebble's takeover by FitBit, the range of options has narrowed a bit recently. This selection contains several options for inexpensive smartwatches in 2017, which can be purchased at prices ranging from $50 to $150. Here we will highlight the main advantages and disadvantages of this or that model. This list of recommended smartwatches will allow you to stay on budget without sacrificing much on quality. These are not the cheapest no-name gadgets, but a solid and easy-to-use watch. It is worth understanding that the list contains not only watches released in 2017, but also in earlier years.

Martian Notifier

Martian Notifier attracts primarily with its low price, while not differing in innovative characteristics. Compatible with Android and iOS, the watch combines an analog watch face with a small OLED screen where notifications are displayed. This configuration is reminiscent of the more expensive Guess Connect and Hugo Boss Smart Classic. Due to the small display size, you can customize vibrations and alerts for specific users. And even if this is not very convenient, for a watch that costs $50, such functionality is quite forgivable.

Pebble 2

Present on the list because no other smartwatch offers the same set of features, quality and price. You get seven days of battery life, Pebble Health apps and News Feed, an optical heart rate monitor, and a monochrome screen. As an inexpensive smartwatch in 2017, this is a perfectly acceptable option for $100. But keep in mind that due to the merger with Fitbit, applications for Pebble will no longer be updated, so you will have to use the basic functionality.

Sony Smartwatch 3

Sony SmartWatch 3 is one of them, featuring an affordable price and good functionality. The mere fact that they have GPS for fitness tracking makes them stand out from this crowd, not to mention the presence of NFC for Google Wallet contactless payments, and two days of battery life. If you want an inexpensive Android Wear smartwatch equivalent to the Moto 360 Sport or Polar M600, this will come in handy. Currently, watches can be purchased for about $100.

Amazfit Pace

Xiaomi's affordable smartwatches look very promising. They are equipped with GPS and GLONASS modules, IP67 water resistance and an optical heart rate monitor. Battery life is up to 11 days or 36 hours with GPS and continuous heart rate monitoring. The functions of the Amazfit Pace smartwatch essentially come down to alerts and notifications from applications, calls and SMS. The price at the moment is about $150, but given the rapid decline in prices for Chinese gadgets, we can soon expect a reduction to $100. However, Xiaomi's most popular product right now is the $20-plus one.

Asus ZenWatch 2

For the new watch, ASUS has decided to go with a round watch face, but if a rectangular display doesn't bother you, it's worth checking out the ZenWatch 2. This smartwatch definitely doesn't challenge giants like the Gear S3, Apple Watch Series 2, or Huawei Watch. But considering all the latest Android Wear features, stylish design and price, the second series of gadgets from Azus is quite interesting.

Alcatel OneTouch Watch

OneTouch offers a great value for money smartwatch option. Compatible with IOS and Android, accelerometer, gyroscope, altimeter, heart rate sensor, electronic compass, NFC, fitness tracking functions and notifications from a smartphone are the list of the main advantages of Alcatel Onetouch. Using the watch, you can control music playback on your smartphone and a number of other functions. Battery life is a respectable 2-3 days, and charging is via the built-in USB port, eliminating the need to carry a charger with you at all times.

Smartwatches are still a new gadget for consumers. In 2017, manufacturers finally began to produce fashionable, stylish and functional smartwatches, constantly expanding their range. Most smartwatches these days come in unisex styles to suit the needs of both men and women. Today, the main obstacle to the mass use of smart watches is their disproportionately high price. Many users are not willing to spend more than $500 on a watch (even if it is super-smart and luxurious). However, you can get almost the same feature set for $100-$120. This begs the question: is it really possible to get a decent, functional and well-built inexpensive smartwatch on a budget? This list is from TrendCat with a selection for those who have about $100 at their disposal.

Garmin Vivosmart

Although it looks like a fitness tracker, it is actually a budget smartwatch costing less than $100. Despite this design, this thing does an excellent job of displaying smartphone notifications and tracking the user’s physical activity. The inexpensive $97 smartwatch features an OLED display with a wide range of colors. So, if you want to experience the capabilities of a modern smartwatch at an affordable price, then Vivosmart is the best choice. Among the shortcomings, Vivosmart does not have GPS - which has recently become synonymous with modern smartwatches. Instead, the user gets 7 days of battery life and seamless syncing with Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter, along with other apps.

Samsung Gear Live

A review of the best inexpensive smartwatches of 2017 would not be complete without gadgets from the Korean giants. And while the Gear Live cost around $130 at release, it can now be ordered for well under $100. The Samsung Gear Live smartwatch has a heart rate monitor, GPS support and much more, which makes it very attractive at a hundred dollar price. The excellent display with a resolution of 320 X 320 and AMOLED technology easily surpasses any other competitor. If the 2014 model year doesn't bother you, feel free to go to the store, as Gear Live is still relevant as of 2017.

Smart watches LG G Watch

The G Watch is the predecessor to the more expensive G Watch R and , which cost more than $200. However, the old model, which is not much inferior in functionality, can be obtained at an attractive budget price of just under $90. And although the model is already outdated, and the rectangular screen is not the most attractive, the price of $90 makes the G Watch one of the best inexpensive smartwatches in 2017. The inexpensive price will allow you to save a few dollars on a stainless steel belt and other stylish accessories.

Microsoft is not associated with fitness trackers and smartwatches. But the company has produced some of the best looking affordable smartwatches under $100. From a technical point of view, the Microsoft Band has advanced features with heart rate monitoring, GPS module and ClearBlack AMOLED display. When it comes to design and ergonomics, it's a completely different story. The angular dial leaves much to be desired, while the bracelet itself looks extremely unaesthetic. But if the design doesn't scare you, for just $90 you're getting a great, inexpensive smartwatch. After its release, the first version of the watch dropped significantly in price. In terms of compatibility, the watch works great with Android, iPhone and Windows Phone devices.

LG LGW110

The LGW110 is a cheaper variant of the luxury G Watch R. It is the world's first smartwatch with a circular OLED display and costs around $100 after one year of release. Like most LG smartwatches, the LGW11O runs the Android Wear operating system with a variety of apps on the Google Play Store. Among the disadvantages, many users note a short battery life and not always convenient connection to a smartphone. Among the advantages of the LG LGW110 is that it is one of the best looking budget smartwatches under $100.

Inexpensive smart watch A29

If you have less than $100, but still really want to buy a good inexpensive smartwatch, there is a solution. A gadget from the Chinese company Oukitel, the A29 smartwatch has a good set of modern features, including the latest Bluetooth 4.0 and the ability to track sleep. But the benefits don't end there. The A29 has SIM card support and can be used as a phone, in addition to a heart rate sensor and a 320mAH battery that provides more than 150 hours of standby time. The A29 can work with iOS and Android, making it one of the best budget smartwatches of 2017.

UWatch

One of the cheapest watches on this list was also created by the Chinese company Bluboo. Unlike A29, UWatch runs on Android Wear. It's also one of the cheapest Android Wear watches you can buy in 2017. From a design perspective, the UWatch is quite attractive, although the features are a bit lacking. But for a $50 watch, that might be forgivable. The only downside of the UWatch comes from its strengths - trying to pack a lot of features into a budget, low-cost device. Additionally, most of these features are pretty useless due to flaws. For example, the pedometer does not count steps correctly, and it is unlikely that many people will need eCompass on their watch. However, at $50 it is the best option for an advanced gadget on the wrist.

Studying the list of the best inexpensive smartwatches of 2017, it becomes clear that you don’t have to spend your entire budget to purchase a fashionable, stylish and functional gadget. Thanks to the entry of a large number of Chinese companies into the market, a serious race has begun in the segment of smartwatches and fitness trackers. According to analysts, in about 5 years, smart watches will become as integral an attribute of a modern person as a smartphone. In continuation, read also about the year in a separate review.

The era of mini-gadgets, unusual and super fashionable devices that take over some of the functions of smartphones, is marked by the emergence of increasingly popular “smart watches”. Stylish and functional, they have become not just a trend, but also a convenient accessory for people living in the crazy rhythm of big cities. How to choose a smart watch so that it successfully performs the functions you need and meets the price-quality criterion? Reliability, appearance, convenience and ease of use, battery life are the main factors for a successful purchase.

What are smart watches for?

Inexpensive options from Chinese manufacturers, fashionable and expensive Apple Watch, high-status Withings Activite, popular Android watches Samsung Gear, Sony Smartwatch provide enormous choice for potential buyers. What features of a smartwatch will you need, and what should you consider when purchasing? If you are a supporter of wearing bracelets or other devices like fitness trackers, you have to use a GPS system, or you love new-fangled trendy devices, smart watches will be an excellent solution to a lot of problems.

The significant size of a smartphone is not always convenient for constant use. A smart watch will become a reason to take your mobile phone out of your purse or pocket less often, notifying the owner about incoming messages and bank newsletters. The combined functionality of an alarm clock, a personal “fitness trainer” (due to the functions of a pedometer), a remote device, and an organizer are good reasons why a modern person needs a smartwatch.

What is a smart watch

Smart watches with phone functions, the ability to make calls or communicate on social networks are currently in the development plans of leading gadget manufacturers. You can easily control music, receive notifications, unlock your phone, make voice messages or notes, and finally find out the time using this smart mini device. Being a kind of smartphone interface, smart watches allow you to save time by simplifying access to popular functions of mobile phones.

Most variations on the theme of smart watches have a variety of characteristics, united by a common indicator: the ability to minimize the use of the phone when receiving messages, notifications and save battery power.

Characteristics of smart watches

Depending on the needs of individual groups of potential users, smart watches are presented in several categories:

  • for business people;
  • for buyers who are actively involved in sports and take care of their own health;
  • for fashionable, stylish young men and women who prefer to live “in trend”.

The main characteristics that play an important role when choosing a particular model include appearance, versatility, quality, reliability of materials, protection from dust, water and external influences, battery life for smartwatches without recharging. The possibility of using third-party programs - from readers (someone has to be lucky in the exam) to barometers and navigators - affects the cost and the ability of the gadget’s battery to “hold” a charge.

Most smartwatch manufacturers use the Android or Android Wear platforms. The ones that stand out are the recently launched AppleWatch with iOS, as well as devices with custom-developed software and platform, such as PebbleSteel. A significant advantage of the latter is the need to recharge the battery no more than once every 5-6 days.

Functionality

Most smart device models on the market today are “tied” to a smartphone, without which work will be limited to the capabilities of a fitness tracker and an ordinary watch with an electronic display. The capabilities of Samsung Gear S and LG Watch Urbane LTE are more extensive: they have a built-in communication module, and connection with the phone is not mandatory for them. Communication with a smartphone in smartwatches is provided via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi at access points.

Functions of smart watches:

  • music control;
  • ability to download Google Play tracks;
  • listening to downloaded music using a headset;
  • counting steps taken (kilometers) and calories burned;
  • measurement of pulse, pressure;
  • alarm clock with the ability to control light and deep sleep phases when worn on your hand at night;
  • the ability to accept or refuse a call;
  • voice response to a message.

When deciding which smartwatch to choose, consider the model and operating system of your smartphone. With an Android base, you can buy any device on the market with Android Wear or pure Android. Stylish and fashionable phones with a “bitten apple” are combined only with expensive and no less stylish Apple Watch. Among the “universal” devices, only Pebble is represented, which successfully works with both iOS, Android, and Windows Phone.

Design

Until recently, the usual characteristics of color and appearance when choosing a wristwatch played an insignificant role for lovers of smart mini-gadgets. A sporty or semi-sporty style, a simple display, and a minimum of sophisticated bells and whistles distinguish models from the mass sector:

The classic round case, the use of familiar metal, leather and glass for the LG G Watch Urban, Motorola Moto 360, Samsung Gear S2, stylish design attract the attention of potential buyers, despite the relatively high price. As representatives of the premium segment, it is worth highlighting the Apple Watch Edition in 18-karat gold “packaging” or the strict, elegant Withings Activite with a round case and laconic design.

Among the representatives of beautiful smartwatches with a “sporty character”, we should note the Adidasmi Coach Smart Run, which will help you create a personal training plan, tell you and “show” in the form of short clips how to correctly perform exercises of various types of load: strength, cardio, aerobic. In addition, they will carefully monitor the condition of your body and its reaction to sports as a tonometer, tracker, and heart rate monitor.

Protection from moisture and dust

An important parameter, given the high cost of smartwatches. In some models, sapphire glass (Sony Smartwatch 3) helps to avoid scratches and damage to the display screen, which increases the price, but increases the service life of the gadget. You can find out the degree of protection against water and dust of a smart watch by the code indicated in the technical specifications: IPxx, where the first x means the level of anti-dust protection, and the second indicates moisture resistance.

With a dust protection rating of 6, your smart watch will be protected from the smallest dust particles, and you can travel with it across the Sahara during dust storms. It is possible not to remove the smart device while taking a shower if the last digit in the protective characteristic is 5 or 6, and for swimming, choose models with a seven or eight. Most smartwatch models from leading manufacturers have IP67 or IP68 ratings.

Display Specifications

The body of the device is presented in the form of a rectangle or a classic circle, but the color and characteristics of the “wrist” mini-monitor have the following features:

1. Screen color.

  • Monochrome. Such smartwatch models are controlled using external hardware buttons.
  • Color. The disadvantages include loss of image clarity and brightness in bright sunlight.

2. Availability of sensors.

  • Touch display. It is easy to use, but if the glass is damaged, problems with the sensitivity of the sensors may occur.
  • "Push-button" screen. Smart watches are controlled through external mechanical buttons, which makes accessing information difficult or increases the response time to incoming messages. More practical and durable.

Strap

Sports models are equipped with a rubber strap. They are produced using hypoallergenic rubber that does not cause stains or irritation. Some models for everyday use come with an interchangeable set of straps made of leather or rubber in different colors. Manufacturers of smart watches produce products with a metal bracelet (Huawei Watch Classic made of stainless alloys, SONY Smart Watch 2) or a plastic strap (Pebble, Casio).

Battery

The more functionality a smartwatch model has, the greater the problem with uninterrupted battery life. Basic models with limited service are equipped with a battery life of about 2 years, after which it will need to be replaced. The leader is Pebble with an electronic ink screen, in which the watch battery needs to be recharged once every 5 days. Multifunctional ASUS Zen Watch, SONY Smart Watch, etc. the models will be able to work in active mode from 25 to 3 hours due to the small size of the case and the not very energy-intensive battery.

When deciding which smartwatch to choose, pay attention to the charging port. In some models it is universal (microUSB standard), while for Samsung Gear, ASUS Zen Watch, Apple Watch a special adapter is required. The Motorola Moto 360 comes with a charging base that turns this beautiful and stylish smartwatch into an equally stylish desk alarm clock.

Where to buy smart watch

The rapidly developing smartwatch market is releasing up to 5 new models every quarter (thanks to our Chinese friends). Without getting confused when choosing the available assortment, you can purchase a quality item in the price range you are interested in:

  1. By visiting specialized stores of “smart goods” off-line. The advantages of such a purchase include: the opportunity to touch, see in reality and test the model you like, and get expert advice. The disadvantages include: the price includes not only the cost of the watch model (and it is quite high), but also the store’s overhead costs in the form of rent, employee salaries and covering operating expenses.
  2. Buy smart watches online from representatives of trading companies or from a catalog in the online showrooms of official manufacturers. The price of such products will be lower than in real stores, but there is a possibility of running into an unscrupulous seller or a low-quality product.

Manufacturers

  • Samsung
  • Apple
  • Alcatel
  • Casio
  • Motorola
  • Pebble
  • Polar

Among the countries producing smartwatches are Germany, Denmark, China, USA, Finland, Sweden, South Korea, Japan, Italy. Russian companies can also boast of their own versions of smart gadgets. The development of Explay is represented by the Explay N1 Watch model (cost 3,000 rubles), which is distinguished by the following characteristics:

  • the ability to call from the watch;
  • write and send text messages;
  • listen to music tracks.

Price

When choosing a smartwatch model, the decisive factor is the price characteristic. Brand models Samsung, Asus, Sony, Adidas start from 200 euros. The cost of mass-sector models from Chinese manufacturers ranges from $90 to $150 per unit. The sports version of the Apple Watch went on sale at a price of $394, while the luxury model of the same company, the gold-plated Apple Watch Edition, costs $10-17,000.

When deciding to buy a smartwatch, evaluate the “quality-functionality-price” ratio, so as not to buy an expensive trinket or a cheap fake, which will go “on the shelf” due to uselessness or poor quality work.
