Results of the apple presentation on September 12. iMac and MacBook

Welcome to our guide to Apple events! Here we are guessing when the new Apple devices will be released. In short, at the time of writing, we believe that the company will introduce something new at the Worldwide Developers Conference on the Apple platform (). The conference will begin on June 5, 2017.

We all love a good Apple party: lots of guesses, mysterious invitations, nice music, good old Tim Cook and, finally, a whole bunch of new inventions. But if we knew when such events would take place, we could plan both the schedule and the budget.

Luckily for us, the gray-haired Apple pundits at Macworld have shared their experiences. With their help, we were able to put together a detailed—though not error-free—guide to Apple events.

Apple's annual event series

Sometimes Apple releases a new product so unexpectedly that it literally falls on users' heads. But usually a company has a very recognizable pattern.

There are certain points in the company's event calendar that you can use to navigate. Here is a list of events that almost always happen every year.

March/April: spring period

This is the first time since Christmas that Apple has returned to the spotlight. Apple usually releases computers and smartphones to the public in the spring, although it has sometimes happened that important updates for iOS were released in the spring.

In 2015, Apple held an event called "Spring Forward" on March 9, during which the price and release date of the first Apple Watch, as well as the first 12-inch MacBook, were announced. On March 21, 2016, during an event called “Let us loop you in,” the iPad Pro 9.7 was also presented. iOS 9.3 was also released.

In the spring of 2017, Apple fans were disappointed: instead of a full-fledged holiday, the company quietly closed its online store, and then sent out a message announcing the release of the iPad 2017 and iPhone 7 in red.

It looks like there will be no more announcements in the spring, so we can only wait for the next spring event in March or April 2018.

June: Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC)

This event focuses on news from the software world. There, Apple usually talks about planned updates for existing operating systems. This is done so that the company’s partners can adapt their software to work with updated systems.

At WWDC 2016, Apple announced macOS Sierra and iOS 10, and also released beta versions of both systems. The finished versions appeared only in the fall, but after the conference the public had a chance to see the changes for the first time.

Sometimes Apple announces the release of new devices there. For example, the famous Mac Pro “bucket” was first presented to the public at WWDC-2013.

At the Apple 2017 presentation, the Cupertino company presented 5 new devices at once. Let's talk about everything in order;)

1. Apple watch series 3

The main, and, in fact, the only innovation is that the Apple Watch series 3 will support LTE. This means that the watch can now be used not with the phone, but instead of it. Maps, navigation, social networks - everything will now be available even without your iPhone. Now you can even make calls directly from your watch.

iTunes will also be able to work without a smartphone. “40 million songs on your wrist,” Apple representatives proudly announced.

An insignificant but interesting innovation - Siri will now respond to you by voice. On previous models, it gave the answer only in printed form.

It is still unknown when the new product will reach Russia - we will be far behind the start of sales in Europe.

2. AppleTV 4

Now Apple's TV set-top box supports 4K and HDR, and your favorite movies can be purchased directly from the AppleTV store in 4K.

Only a few countries will be the first to receive the innovations. Russia is not among them. We are waiting again.

3. iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus

Yes, they missed the 7s - the iPhone 8 goes on sale immediately. In short, this is a pumped-up version of the iPhone 7. Of the serious changes, perhaps, only the case materials are now glass. This was done to make it possible to implement wireless charging.

Brand new cameras were also presented. Both will have optical stabilization, which will significantly improve both photo and video quality. They promise quality much higher than on the iPhone 7.

The new iPhone has a more powerful processor - 70% faster than the previous one. The new product is 25% louder than its predecessor, it is equipped with a 12 megapixel camera with a new portrait mode. It can automatically detect a face and adjust the lighting in the frame.

4. iPhone X

Well, now the most delicious part. iPhone X (ten).

It all started, naturally, with loud phrases. Tim Cook said that they turned the whole world upside down with their first iPhone. This happened 10 years ago.

Today Apple is introducing a product that will set the industry trend for the next 10 years.

Well, now about the innovations. First and most importantly, the iPhone will now have an Edge-to-Edge OLED screen. A technology that will significantly improve image quality. It looks very impressive from the outside!

Face ID technology was officially presented. Now the phone will automatically unlock when you look at it. The technology will work even in the dark. They promise that it is almost impossible to deceive her. There will no longer be a standard fingerprint scanner.

Apple Pay will also work through Face ID. I looked at my smartphone and the payment was made. At the presentation it all looked very cool!

Well, here is the full list of characteristics:

Yesterday in California (USA) another presentation of Apple took place, which our team closely followed. Today, we have selected the most interesting and important new products for you and are pleased to tell you about them in this article. Let's start in order:

iOS 11 | iPhone

Perhaps the most anticipated by millions of users and The news is an update to the famous iOS operating system, and as expected, it was presented. The operating system is already available to developers (and there are no less than 16 million of them registered), a public beta version will be available a little later, and only in the fall, after the presentation of the iPhone, the update will reach all supported devices:

So, what's new in iOS 11:

  • Now iMessage is synchronized via iCloud between all Apple devices: iPhone, iPad, MacBook. Another important iMessage update is the possibility of financial transactions between users using Apple Pay;
  • The Siri voice assistant has been updated - now her voice is more pleasant, she has learned to translate texts from English into Chinese, French, German, Italian and Spanish (other languages will be supported a little later), and is also improving herself using machine learning;
  • The AppStore design has been completely redesigned. The store will be divided into three categories: Today (apps of the day), Apps and Games. Now you can see the functionality of the application directly in its description, without downloading the application itself;

  • The control center has also been redesigned - it doesn’t look ordinary, but you and I know that it has probably become even more convenient than before... True, again without an LTE switch. Classic;

  • The new H.265 codec increases the compression of captured photos and videos by 2 times, which makes them even better;

iOS 11 | iPad

Separately, it is worth noting the iOS update for iPad: it brings several more changes, significantly expanding the functionality of the tablet and making it more convenient:

  • Added a full-fledged dock panel for applications, like on a Mac, which can be hidden when not needed;
  • Starting today, the File file manager is available in the AppStore, allowing you to access the tablet’s file system;
  • Added a document scanner and the ability to draw on notes using the Apple Pen;

iPad Pro 10.5"" and iPad Pro 12.9""

Few people expected to see the new iPad Pro version at the presentation, and if they did, it’s unlikely that they would be like this - there were no significant changes in the design of the tablet, except that the frames were reduced by 40%, but they still remain by no means small. But we can look “into the depths” of the device, and there we will see a new six-core A10X processor and an updated 12 megapixel camera with optical stabilization, which, as Apple claims, shoots no worse than the iPhone 7. How it turns out in practice, we still have to find out. We are pleased with the new set of peripheral devices supported by the new iPad and created specifically for it:

By the way, for greater autonomy, the iPad can now independently adjust the screen refresh rate. When appropriate, the frequency can be reduced to 24 Hz. Maximum screen refresh rate120 Hz achieved thanks to ProMotion technology.

If you're already wondering how much the new iPad will cost:

iMac and MacBook. Even cooler. Even faster.

The new iMac and MacBook were presented at the presentation and they are truly worthy of special attention.

The new all-in-one PCs from Apple are equipped with the 7th generation of Intel Kaby Lake processors, all previously available connectors on the case are retained, with the exception of two new ThunderBolt 3 added, the 21.5" version has 32GB of RAM, and the 27" version has as much as 64GB.

Depending on the modification, the new iMac will be equipped with graphics processors from AMD - Radeon 550, 560, 570, 570, 575 and 580. Among other things, the presented iMacs feature Fusion Drive technology with support for up to 2TB of physical memory. As for the cost of the updated monoblocks, they are already available for order and the starting price for the simplest configuration is $1099.

iMac Pro is the fastest iMac in the company's history - an 18-core processor, support for up to 4TB SSD, Radeon Vega graphics, 22 TF performance and a redesigned cooling system. Price - from $4999 (for the version with an 8-core processor).

MacBook laptops have not undergone significant changes - the Pro version received Intel Kaby Lake processors and 50% faster SSD drives, and the Air line received even fewer changes, but remained on sale. The starting price for the MacBook Pro starts at $1,299.

MacOS High Sierra. Modest and tasteful.

Not only the mobile operating system received an update, but also the desktop one. There are also not many changes in it compared to the previous version, but they all deserve attention:

  • Thanks to the use of neural networks, the Safari browser now works 80% faster than Google's Chrome, and has learned to block the automatic start of videos on some sites;
  • Apple File System support - accelerated work with files, encryption and protection against data loss;
  • Metal 2 graphics allows you to create virtual reality content (the same system has improved iMac performance);
  • New codec integrated H.265, which is 40% more productive than H.264;

  • The pre-installed Photo application has expanded its functionality and is closer to the level of Photoshop. There are also new options for navigating the application;

Similar to iOS, High Sierra is already available for developers, a beta version will be available later, and updates for all computers should not be expected until the fall.

watchOS | TVOS

The least changes affected tvOS - by the end of this year the Amazon application will appear on AppleTV, but in Russia, of course, this update has no significance. At least for now.

If we talk about watchOS 4, everything is a little more interesting here:

  • Added three new dial animations based on the cartoon "Toy Story" from the Pixar film studio;
  • Added a screen based on Siri recommendations;
  • A dynamic change of the dial has appeared, depending on the time of day and location;

  • The Activity application has been updated - it now has a new graphical interface and more often encourages the user when achieving fitness goals;
  • New animations have been added when completing workouts, as well as automatic launch of workouts via the NFC module in the watch when interacting with compatible simulators;

  • The music application has a new interface, easier access to tracks and improved integration with AirPods;

HomePod. Something new.

And finally, let’s talk about the most recent product from Apple – HomePod. This is a new portable speaker, its name refers to the iPod, and its design is reminiscent of the Mac Pro. Will be available in two colors: white and space grey. It has 7 speakers that reproduce sound and 6 microphones for voice interaction with Siri. The A8 processor, the same as in the iPhone 6, but with improved music capabilities, allows you to direct sound depending on the space: for example, only in the center of the room or across its entire area.

The cost of this device will be $349, and the start of sales is scheduled for December this year in the territory USA, England and Australia.

On September 12, the traditional autumn presentation of Apple ended in Cupertino, at which the company presented brand new products. As expected, these are three new iPhones, Apple Watch 3 and Apple TV 4K.

For the first time in the history of the iPhone line, it received wireless charging. Retaining the dimensions of their predecessors, as well as standard 4.7- and 5.5-inch displays, the new iPhones are more similar to the iPhone 7S in terms of innovation. This is the new A11 chip, which is 70% faster than the previous one, stereo speakers (25% louder), as well as a 12 MP camera. Optical stabilization is now available even in the standard version of the iPhone 8, and not just in the Plus. Smartphones are equipped with wireless charging, but a port for a Lightning cable is also present. Official sales start on September 22. There will now be only two versions on sale in terms of memory capacity: 64 and 256 GB, priced at $699 and $849, respectively.

Apple's main flagship, the name of which has been confirmed, however, as Tim Cook himself noted, reads exactly like the iPhone 10. The smartphone has a body without a Home button with a 5.8-inch OLED display, the latest A11 processor, as well as a FaceID user identification system that scans the face user. The chance of hacking such a smartphone is one in a million. In addition, the device received AirPower wireless charging, but it will only be available for sale next year. Official iPhone X sales will begin on November 3, starting at $999 for the 64GB model.

The third generation of Apple Watch smart watches, as expected, acquired an LTE module that allows the installation of small SIM cards. The watch is no longer permanently tied to the iPhone and can be used separately. However, the phone number will be exactly the same as that of the iPhone owner. You can now call the watch itself. At the same time, the standard version without LTE will also remain on sale. Among other improvements, we should highlight a new platform with a dual-core processor, which will make the accessory 70% more powerful than its predecessor. The new product will run on WatchOS 4. The watch will be available at prices of $329 and $399 for models with GSM or LTE modules, respectively. Sales start – September 22.

The new generation Apple TV now supports 4K, as well as HDR. The new model is equipped with 3 GB of RAM and is powered by the powerful Apple A10X Fusion processor. The hardware platform allows you to handle video playback at 60 frames per second, as well as run games. It will come with an upgraded Siri Remote. In addition, there are models with 32 and 64 GB of memory to choose from. Prices are $179 and $199 respectively.

You will find a complete overview of all the new products presented by Apple at the fall presentation 2017 in the new September issue of the magazine
