Connecting and setting up a d link dir 620 router. D-link wireless router

Setting up a router d link dir 620 will allow you to get your router up and running. The dir 620 model is one of the most popular types of routers in Russia.

This router is wireless, most popular cellular operators can work with it.

Setting up the router includes the following actions:

Connecting the router and downloading the firmware file

To get the device working properly, you need to install the most current version firmware. The firmware file should be downloaded from the manufacturer's official website.

This will protect you from viral software and problems arising while the router is operating.

Today, there are three types of router models on the market: categories A, C, D. The article discusses setting up a revision D router model.

You will be redirected to a page with a list of directories. Follow the following folder path: /pub/Router/DIR-620/Firmware and you will be in the folder shown in the figure below.

Select your router revision. In our case, this is the REV D folder.

Open the REV D folder and click on the file with the extension “bin” - this is the firmware installation file. Choose the most new version. When you click on the file, the download will start automatically.

After downloading the firmware file, you need to connect the router.

To do this, connect the cable from your communication provider to your router - to the port called Internet, as shown in the figure below (cables from Rostelecom, Beeline and Megafon are suitable).

Now you need to connect the LAN1 port and the external connector of the network card of your PC or laptop with a special twisted pair cable.

Only after connecting the router to the computer, turn on the power to the router.

  1. Turn on the Control Panel window and go to the Network Management window and shared access;
  2. Open the window for changing the parameters of the connected system adapter;
  3. In the list of connections that appears, click right click connections manipulator local network and open their properties window;
  4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 from the list and open properties of this paragraph. The window shown in the figure below will appear.

In the window shown in the figure, the option must be selected automatic receipt DNS server addresses. Save your settings.

Important! To continue setup, disconnect your Internet connection. After setup, the router will automatically establish a connection to the Internet.

Firmware installation

After connecting the router to the computer and the Internet provider cable, you need to flash its firmware.

For this process we need the file with the BIN extension that you downloaded from initial stage settings.

On your computer, open your browser window and enter address bar localhost address: 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.0.

Various computers and routers can work with one of two types of addresses. Next, press the enter key.

You will be taken to the router settings login page. The user must enter a login and password to identify the administrator and owner of the device.

The standard login and password are admin and admin, respectively.

After authentication, the router configuration window will open, the options of which are presented in the figure below.

Remember! Appearance settings may vary. Its appearance depends on the version installed firmware device, depending on the type and model of the router.

If the first or third window option opens, select the system tab and then click on “Software Update”.

If you see the second option, click on the right arrow and then click on the software update option.

Click on the browse key and in the explorer window that opens, select the previously downloaded firmware file.

Now click on the “Update” button to begin the process of reinstalling the router firmware.

While the router software is being updated, the connection with the settings window will be interrupted. Do not turn off the power to the device until the update is completed.

As a rule, the firmware is installed in no more than five minutes.

Once the installation is complete, a window will appear in the browser with information about the successful completion of the router software update.

Advice! If system message does not appear, enter the address 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.0.0 in the browser again.

Setting up a connection to the Internet provider

Let's consider the process of connecting to the network using the Beeline operator as an example. Remember that you need to disconnect your computer from the network.

Only after this can you begin setting up the final stage of configuring the router.

Go to the router configuration window through your browser. Then select the advanced settings tab (at the bottom of the page).

Click on the Network tab and then select the option called WAN. In the window that opens, you will see only one available active connection.

Click on it and then on the add key.

Now in the window that appears you need to specify the basic configuration parameters:

  • Communication type: dynamic + L2TP standard;
  • Specify any name for the connection;
  • In the VPN field, enter the name and password provided to you by your provider (Beeline);
  • Enter the server address as follows: tp.internet.beeline.ru;
  • Click on the save button. All other parameters can be left unchanged.

The D-Link DIR-620A router is an update to the long-existing DIR-620 line. And the first noticeable difference is the form factor. The device is now cylindrical in shape.

Full name: N300 wireless router with 3G/CDMA/LTE support and USB port.
DIR-620A has the following interfaces:
WAN port 10/100BASE-TX
4 LAN port 10/100BASE-TX
USB 2.0 port
Wireless network connection speed is up to 300 Mbit/s (802.11n standard). The DIR-620A implements 2x2 MIMO and has two internal 2dBi omnidirectional antennas.
The WAN port is indicated in yellow on the device.
The USB port is multifunctional: you can connect a 3G/LTE modem, USB drive or printer to it.
Also, D-Link DIR-620A has a built-in torrent client. Downloaded files will be saved to the connected USB disk or flash drive.

Now about setting up the router.
First you need to connect your computer (or laptop) to one of the LAN ports of the router. On DIR-620A, the DHCP server is enabled by default, and the computer will obtain an IP address dynamically.
The router is configured via the Web interface. To access it, enter the address 192.168.0.1 in the address bar of your browser.
When you connect for the first time, you will be immediately prompted to change your password:

Set the password and then change the interface language to Russian:

The web interface menu looks like this:

For initial setup D-Link DIR-620A router we will use the Click"n"Connect wizard.

The WAN port on the router is indicated in yellow.
Next, you will need to specify the Internet connection parameters that your provider told you. You can configure these settings manually or select your provider's name from the list. In the second case, the required values will be set automatically.

When setting up manually, it is important to select the correct connection type. If you don’t know which option to choose, check with your provider.

In my case, this is “Dynamic IP”.
Internet access via a 3G/LTE modem can be used both as the main channel and for backup. We'll try connecting the modem later.

After applying the settings, we receive a message that the Internet connection was successful.

If necessary, you can configure IPTV.

The wireless network can be configured using the Wizard. We will use the “Access Point” mode.

Apply the settings.
DIR-620A supports the Yandex.DNS service. This service will help block access to dangerous sites containing malicious code or unwanted information. Let's turn it on.

Now let's look at the capabilities of the USB port.
On the DIR-620A page on the official D-Link website there is this picture:

Those. You can connect a USB drive, printer or 3G/LTE modem to this port.
When you connect a flash drive, it is immediately detected by the router:

Through the menu item " File Browser» you can view the files that are on the USB drive in this moment.

To use a USB drive connected to the DIR-620A as a file server, you need to configure the Samba server:

Access to files can not only be anonymous, but also require a username and password. In the example in the figure below, user1 will be able to both read and write files on the USB drive, and user2 will only be able to read.

Another possibility of using a USB drive is setting up a DLNA server on the DIR-620A.

The process of setting up a DLNA server is well described in the FAQ section of the official D-Link website: http://dlink.ru/ru/faq/302/1355.html
If we do everything correctly, we will be able to play files on DLNA-compatible devices.

And that is not all. You can configure an ftp server on the DIR-620A. It can be accessed both from within the local network and from outside. The files will be stored on the connected USB drive.

Access to the FTP server can be anonymous, but if access is to be made from the Internet, it is better to make it authorized.

In order for the ftp server to be accessible from the Internet, you need to configure port forwarding on the DIR-620A. D-Link calls this feature “virtual server”.

NAT Loopback allows local network users to access local servers(accessible from the Internet) via an external IP address (WAN IP).

And the icing on the cake is that the DIR-620A has a built-in torrent client.

The torrent client management web interface page looks like this:

Now let’s set up a backup Internet connection via a 3G/LTE modem. Since the DIR-620A only has one USB port, the USB drive will have to be disabled, and the DLNA, ftp, file server and torrent client functions will become unavailable.
Before disconnecting the USB drive, it must be “unmounted”.

Now let's connect the USB modem.

Then we will configure the Internet access channel via the 3G/LTE network to be a backup channel rather than the main one.

Let's test the operation of the backup connection.
This is what the route to mail.ru looks like with a working connection via the DIR-620A WAN port:

Now let's disable the WAN port.

And run tracert again:

As you can see, the backup route is working.

Concluding the review, I would like to note that this router left a pleasant impression both with its design, convenience and ease of setup, as well as with its functionality and stability. It has everything you could need from a home router. And the price is less than 2000 rubles.

We continue to consider the features of installing and connecting various routers. Today we will figure out how to configure a d link dir 620 router and create a wireless home network based on it.

Preparation

Rotate the router reverse side to yourself. As you can see, it looks standard - four connectors for connection using a patch cord with network cards and one “Internet” port into which the provider cable is inserted. Install all the necessary wires, plug the device into a power outlet and start the system.

You can also download from the manufacturer's official website latest version firmware and install it yourself. However, this is not necessary - usually the new device has the latest firmware.

Changing connection properties

After physically connecting the router and computer, you need to check the connection parameters via the local network. This is done through the “Control Panel”.

Close the connection properties and launch the browser. Now all that remains is to configure the router’s connection to the Internet.

Internet setup

Enter the address 192.168.0.1 to open the router's web interface. Use the admin-admin pair as credentials.

If you configured the D-Link DIR-615 router, then the interface of the DIR-620 router will seem very familiar to you. There really are no serious differences here: the instructions for setting up these two devices can be easily changed without disturbing anything in their operation.

Go to advanced settings.

Select “WAN” in the “Network” section. You should see a list of available connections. If it already has a connection, ignore it. Click the "Add" button to begin creating a new connection.

As when setting up the asus rt n10u router, the most important thing at this stage is to correctly specify the connection type. This information must be specified in the agreement with the provider. The username and password must also be indicated there.

If your provider uses PPPoE technology, select this value in the “Connection type” line, and then enter your username and password. The remaining parameters do not need to be changed unless the provider requires it.

Wireless network

The procedure for creating a wireless network on the DIR-620 router does not pose any unsolvable problems for users: if you have configured Wi-fi router ASUS RT-G32 or others modern device, then you should know the procedure perfectly. If with Wi-Fi setup If you encounter this for the first time, follow these steps sequentially:

Select the “Basic Settings” section from the “Wi-Fi” menu. Specify the network name (“SSID”), which will then be displayed in the list of available points. Click "Edit".
Open the "Security Settings" section. Here you need to fill in two fields - “ Network authentication" and "Encryption key". In the first field, select the “WPA2-PSK” value, and in the second field, enter the password for your wireless network.

At the moment, several technologies have been developed that allow the router to connect to the provider’s equipment to provide user computers access to the global network. Rostelecom, in turn, uses a fairly common type of communication for this – PPPoE. This technology is quite easy to understand. Absolutely every modern router supports it - the D-Link dir 620 router did not stand aside either. It is its configuration under Rostelecom (or any other Internet provider using this technology) that will be discussed in the article.

As soon as you unpack the box with your device, in addition to the latter, you will have in your hands a power supply and a short LAN cable (it is also possible that WiFi antennas will be laid separately - just screw them together). Before you can configure anything at all, you need to connect it all, plus connect the Internet cable to your router. Pay attention to the picture:

  • The sockets bordered by a blue frame are intended for connecting LAN cables to them. Connect one end of the short wire from the kit to one of them, the other to the computer.
  • As you may have guessed, you need to connect an Internet cable from your provider to the socket labeled Internet.
  • Connect power to the appropriate socket.

Login to the web interface

Setting up any modern router begins by logging into the web interface, which is part of operating system devices. It’s easy to open it – you just need to follow the appropriate network address router. In our case, this is “192.168.0.1”. Enter the address into Internet Explorer and navigate to it.

If you are unable to log in, you should make sure that your settings are correct. network card– it is advisable to set the receiving IP and DNS to automatic mode. This is done in the properties of your local network connection.

A page will open with the following content:

Here is a dialog in which you will need to enter authentication data (i.e. login and password). The default (if the device has been reset) is admin, both user name and password. Enter the values and click "Login". If access is denied, try returning your router settings to factory defaults.

Internet setup

As mentioned above, Rostelecom uses PPPoE communication technology. To set it up:

Immediately after completing these steps, you should have Internet access. If it is missing, try entering all the settings again. You can also call Rostelecom support - perhaps you made a mistake when entering authentication data or you simply ran out of funds.

If everything is fine, proceed to the next step - setting up WiFi.

Important Wi-Fi Changes

To get started, return to the advanced settings page. Find the column named WiFi here, then follow the “Basic Settings” link. This page is used to enter the name of your future network:

Fill in the SSID field at the very top. Here you can write any set of characters or numbers. Afterwards, click “Change”.

Now all that remains is to password protect your new network. Return to previous page and in the WiFi column, select the item named “Security Settings”. The following picture will open:

The top field – “Network Authentication” – is used to select the encryption method. You don’t need to think too much, select the suggested option – “WPA2-PSK”. Go to next line to the field – “Encryption key”. Here you can set a password. Enter any 8 or more Latin characters (numbers are also possible). It is not necessary to change the remaining values.

By clicking the "Change" button, you can disconnect the router from the computer. And connect to the Internet via Wi-Fi.
