How to fix a button on an asus laptop keyboard. Repairing “torn out” laptop keyboard keys

Hello dear readers. Sometimes a situation arises when something falls on a laptop and the keys become damaged or fly off. Like in the picture below :)

In this case, our task is to perform the correct laptop key repair on one's own. This procedure is quite simple, but without understanding how the keys on a laptop are arranged, you can easily make the situation worse.

Repairing laptop buttons

So let's consider step by step repair laptop keys. If a piece of a key breaks off, it is better not to try to glue something together and attach it all back. The buttons of any keyboard twitch frequently. This means that such a key will not last long.

Therefore, in order not to waste your time and energy, I recommend contacting your nearest service center, where there should be a ton of these buttons :)

Depending on the model, laptop button repair may differ. But you can see the approximate principle of fastening with latches and rockers that you will have below.

As you can see, the key on the keyboard is secured by a special rocker (the ears of which you could see under the key). The rocker itself consists of several parts with a hinged connection principle.

In the event that the rocker flies off along with the key, you will first need to return the rocker back and only then begin to repair the laptop keys.

After successfully returning the rocker to its place, we begin to work on the keys. Carefully insert the protrusions on the rocker into the grooves of the lid.

After the ears fit into the grooves, apply light pressure to secure the button.

During repairs large buttons laptop, such as - "space". You can see a metal stabilizer under the button. It is necessary for uniform key press.

This stabilizer is additionally attached to the keyboard lining. In this regard, the principle of fastening will be slightly different. To start, insert the ends of the stabilizer into special holes.

Using in Everyday life laptop, users sometimes encounter a problem: a key on the keyboard has broken off. The reason could be any factor: cleaning the keyboard, using a vacuum cleaner for cleaning, a stray cat (yes, even this happens), a small child who is interested in everything around him and accidentally breaks a key, and much more. But not everyone knows that this small problem is quite easy to fix.
I'll tell you how to put the button back without loss.

(caution! a lot of photos)

Something has happened and your laptop's keyboard looks like this:

Laptops are all different, but most often their mounting is similar (fastening principle).
The key on the back side looks like this:

We see two pairs of fasteners:
- two latches;
- two grooves for the rocker ears.
The key cover is attached to the keyboard using a special rocker, which consists of 2 parts connected by a hinge in the middle and forming the letter X (ha).

It often happens that the key “breaks out” along with the rocker. In this case, you must first disconnect the rocker from the key cap, install the rocker on the keyboard, and only then return the key to its rightful place.
To do this, take the key, unsnap the latch on one side of the key, and remove the antennae of the rocker and grooves on the other side:

We get 2 parts: a key cover and a rocker.
The keyboard has 3 lugs for fastening: one larger and two smaller.

If for some reason these fasteners are bent (for example, a heavy object fell on the keyboard, as a result of which a key jumped out), they need to be bent into the correct position. Be careful, you cannot bend these fasteners too much, because... They are made of aluminum and break off easily, after which repairs will become much more difficult.

Install the rocker on the keyboard:
- place it under the large mounting eye

Lightly press the rocker onto the 2 small mounts.

After installing the rocker, you can put the key cover back.
- insert the protrusions on the rocker into the grooves of the lid

Here you need to act carefully and not miss :).
Next, making sure that the ears go into the grooves, lightly press the top of the key to secure the key cover,
a slight click will be heard.

Ready! the key is in place.

Keys big size(Tab, Shift, space, enter) in addition to the plastic rocker may have a metal stabilizer for uniform pressing.

There are two additional tabs on the keyboard base to secure this stabilizer. Otherwise the design is the same as described above.

First we wind the ends of the stabilizer.

Then we insert the lower “antennae” of the rocker into the grooves and, with a light press, put the button in place.

Spacebar (and sometimes others) long keys) is supported by two rockers and a stabilizer.

In principle, the installation is no different from the above-described installation of the Shift key.

It was discussed above internal organization Hewlett-Packard laptop keys.

I almost forgot. If a swing, consisting of two parts, was disassembled during an emergency, do not despair. Using a needle, toothpick or other suitable object, it is easy to assemble. We put one side into the groove, and to install the second side we use our auxiliary object.

Now, dear users, you will have no questions:
- How does a laptop keyboard work?

How to replace the keycap?
- what to do if a cat tore out a key on a laptop?
and so on.

P.s. Because there were too many photos, an additional part of the article can be viewed on my blog (if anyone is interested in this topic), where, for example, you can see the devices of the keys of Asus and Apple laptops, some differences and similarities are described.

Ordinary desktop computer If something happens, you can replace it by asking a friend or neighbor, but things are much more complicated. Fortunately, in some cases it can be repaired with due diligence and accuracy, as well as with an approximate procedure in mind. Let's look at the most common problem with a keyboard failure, caused by something hitting it.

Then carefully disconnect from keyboard and rinse it with water, but do not use any cleaning agents to avoid damaging the conductive paths and conductor insulation. Next, dry keyboard, reinstall and check if it is. It takes a long time to dry: it should lie for about a day in a moderately warm place, protected from direct sunlight. sun rays. You can speed up drying with a fan. Remember: if there is no moisture on the surface, this does not mean that there is no moisture under the buttons.

If yours still refuses to work (partially or completely), it can still be repaired. To do this, restore the conductive paths. Computer stores sell special conductive paint. However, if you can't find it anywhere, try your luck at a car dealership by asking if they have a fluid for repairing rear heating filaments. This liquid will do just fine.

Remember the location of the keys by taking a photo keyboard or at least writing down the location of all the keys. Next, proceed to remove them. This is easily done with a dental hook or a thin watch screwdriver. Next, remove the elevators that are used to attach the keys to them. You will have access to polyethylene boards located on an aluminum track. Conductive tracks are applied to them. If they are glued together, use a hairdryer to heat them up and gently separate them.

Apply paint to damaged areas of conductive paths, then dry keyboard, then assemble it by executing listed actions V reverse order, and check keyboard.

note

Causes of damage and options for how to repair a key on a laptop. The keys on the laptop have little travel, and the keyboard itself is quite thin. How to fix a button on a laptop with your own hands. All laptops are different from each other, but the fastening of the buttons is almost always the same. The key is usually with reverse side equipped with two pairs of latches and two grooves into which the “ears” of the rocker fit.

Helpful advice

Laptop owners can confirm that quite often the keyboard fails - the keys stick or do not work at all. Repairs can cost quite a tidy sum, especially if the warranty period has already expired. However, you can try to repair the keyboard yourself and save money. Exactly how to repair a laptop keyboard yourself and we'll talk.

  • laptop repair

If handled carefully, any laptop is quite indestructible, unlike others mobile devices. Its body is very durable, reliable cases are used for carrying, the load on the most fragile element - the screen - is minimal. However, physical damage is the most popular category of “diseases” that are addressed to service centers. The main impact is taken by the keyboard - the only element that is in constant contact with the user. Knowing how to fix a key on a laptop is essential for those who do not control own strength, children, cats and dogs, but I don’t intend to wait long for the return of my laptop from repair. Well, he wants to save some money.

  • you must work exclusively with a completely de-energized laptop, which means that the battery must be removed;
  • keyboard design different manufacturers may differ slightly, therefore, if the picture before your eyes differs from the picture on the monitor, use the analogy method;
  • There is no need to use force during the repair process.

The key cover fell out

Service center employees probably sigh heavily when an embarrassed laptop owner lays out one or two or three keycaps with letters or arrows on the table. Repair in this case consists only of putting it in place. Since the device is still compact, the fasteners are ridiculously minimal - tiny latches and grooves that can come loose with little effort. The result looks like this:

If, upon inspection of the damaged area, no debris is found (both on the button cover and at the place where it is attached to the elevator), then we just have to insert the cover back. It has two symmetrical grooves and two symmetrical latches, and the elevator that remains on the keyboard has two tabs and two locks. We align the grooves of the key cover with the protrusions of the elevator (the fit is quite tight), and then lightly press until it clicks and install the latches into the locks. Thus, we first act on bottom part keys, and then to the top one, not the other way around. When installing, you must ensure that the cover is placed exactly in the center and does not warp or move: the fasteners are quite fragile, and applying significant force will lead to breakage.

If you miss the “space”, “enter”, “shift” or other beautiful key, then in the process of installing the cover another operation is added. The large keys are equipped with a stabilizer for uniform pressing. We don't always hit exactly the center, do we? Stabilizer is a big name for a piece of rigid wire that is attached to inside covers. Its two ends are inserted into special lugs on the keyboard, located on both sides of the elevator mount, after which the key cover is latched in the usual manner - first down side, then the top one.

Plastic is everything to us, but some manufacturers did not skimp on metal, so the key mounts can look almost exotic:

This, of course, was different from Apple. True, today you won’t see this anymore, and MacBook keyboards are no different from others. But if you happy owner rarity, then let us clarify, just in case: first of all, a wire is placed in the fastenings on the keyboard, and then the key cover is placed on it. Well, maybe it will come in handy.

The lid fell out along with the elevator

And this happens: the cover is fastened to its elevator, but it comes unfastened from the keyboard fastener. As a result, we get this thing in our hands:

If nothing is broken, then no problems will arise during the repair: first we send the elevator into place, then the cover. Of course, before this we separate their tandem by simply separating the fasteners: latches from locks, protrusions from grooves. The keyboard has a metal elevator mount - two small lugs on top and one wide one on the bottom. Often they turn out to be bent (that's why the key came off), and they need to be straightened before installing the elevator. It is important not to overdo it here: the metal is very thin, so a couple of flexion and extension movements can lead to separate ears and the purchase of a new keyboard. The most convenient way is to take a thin flat screwdriver and use it to straighten the deformed areas.

When the fasteners are in order, you can begin installing the key. First, we insert a wide metal eye into the corresponding hole in the elevator, correct the position of the part, and then lower the top until the small ears are installed in the windows intended for this. The pressure should be minimal: everything can be installed easily, and if something doesn’t fit somewhere, you’ve either warped the elevator or crushed the metal fasteners. Try again and everything will work out.

It happens that the elevator, separated from the key cover, crumbles into two parts in the hands. There is nothing wrong with this: they are connected to each other by means of protrusions and grooves on both sides. Perhaps to combine tiny plastic elements, you will need a needle or match. The procedure will be the same: first we insert the protrusion into the groove on one side, then on the other. It turns out to be such a “rocker”. Then we install it in place as if nothing had happened.

When the elevator is firmly connected to the keyboard, we attach the lid to the count of one, two, finished: we already know how to fix a key on a laptop. First the lower slots, then the upper latches. We check - the movement is smooth, nothing is loose, the letter remains the same. This cosmetic repair takes several minutes, even with a certain slowness, so it is not at all necessary to spend hours visiting a service center and days waiting for employees to get their hands on your laptop. If, nevertheless, your hands are afraid, following your eyes, then this video will help you overcome your fears:

Everything is easy and simple with desire and patience.

The key is cracked

It happens that as a result of being hit by something hard (I’d like to believe that it’s not your fingers in pursuit of another monster), the key cover starts to crack. The best option repair in this case is to find the same cap and replace it. If this is not possible (in stores they will sell the keyboard, but they will not pick out the keycaps), and contacting the service center for some reason is not suitable, then there are two working options.

If the cracks are insignificant and the lid does not fall apart, then you can coat it with any glue that holds the plastic (except for the wonderful “super glues” that make the connection brittle). This is only the case if the cracks are located on the contact surface. You only need to glue the lid, rubbing the composition and following the instructions from its manufacturer. Epoxy resin is also suitable, but you need to take into account that the dimensions of the part should not change due to the thickness of the adhesive layer.

You can also replace the long-suffering cap with a less-suffering one - remove it from the key that is almost never used. For example, “Ё” or “/” (depending on the direction of work on the laptop, of course). In this case, it is also advisable to glue the cracked one to avoid accidental final damage, but the load on it will be much lower. You just have to either get used to the fact that, say, one of the WASDs will be Yo, and keep this in mind constantly, or buy stickers for the keyboard and return to the status quo.

Both options involve a temporary solution to the problem, since the damaged key will still have to be replaced as soon as possible.

The key is broken

A broken lid that has fallen into several parts cannot be repaired. A broken elevator cannot be repaired. Broken lid and elevator fasteners cannot be repaired. These parts can be purchased either from service centers or from very specialized stores that service service centers. For a short time (to finish writing a coursework or completing other important tasks), a broken key can be replaced with the same one, but lightly loaded, but instead there will be a gaping hole in the laptop keyboard. If the fastenings are not damaged, then you can glue the lid and put it in this place with the condition that you do not use this key at all and replace it in the near future.

You cannot glue the fasteners to the lid or the lift to the base of the keyboard. In this case, one awkward movement or a drop of glue will lead to the need to replace the keyboard, from which it will not be possible to simply tear off the restored one with skillful hands. Finding and replacing a key is much easier and cheaper.

If the metal keyboard mounts to which the elevator attaches are damaged, you will have to purchase new keyboard. Soldering in this case will not help and is even dangerous, while glue and other compounds are unreliable, and the elements are too small.

The key gets stuck

Or it generally behaves strangely: it transmits the wrong characters or in the wrong quantity. Most often, it’s not a matter of the key, but the fact that “someone is eating too much.” Or he drinks. Above the laptop keyboard. Flooded with liquid and covered with debris, the keyboard begins to show tricks, and reassembling the keys will not fix this. Disassemble and clean, and in the most severe cases, replace.

Quite often, people encounter the problem of a torn button on a laptop. If this problem has overtaken you, do not despair and do not run to buy a new keyboard. The button can be easily repaired.

If the button not only comes off, but also splits, then you will have to throw it away. You can try to glue it together with superglue, but such a design will most likely be short-lived. By contacting the service center, you can purchase new button. Or try making it yourself: make a mold out of plasticine and fill it with epoxy resin, dip it in Right place contact. You can even out the unevenness of a homemade button using sandpaper.

The key is attached to the keyboard using a special rocker (several parts connected by a hinge principle). If the rocker falls off along with the button, disconnect the rocker and carefully replace it. Now insert the protrusions on the rocker into the grooves of the lid. When the ears are in the grooves, lightly press the button and lock it in place. In the case when it came off large button

(space), please note that it has a metal stabilizer underneath it, which regulates uniform pressure. This button should be attached a little differently. First, insert the ends of the stabilizer into the holes provided for this. Secure the bottom of the rocker into the grooves. Reinstall the button itself.
