The laptop does not see the Wi-Fi network. The laptop (phone, tablet) does not see the home Wi-Fi network (it sees the neighboring ones)

Hello, dear friends. As you probably already understood from the title, today I decided to touch upon a very serious and painful topic, and try to figure out what to do when Wi-Fi on a laptop or netbook does not work and how to still connect the laptop to Wi-Fi router. By the way, this can be not only a laptop or netbook, it can also be an ordinary desktop computer with a Wi-Fi receiver. Similar questions in Lately appears a lot, mainly to the article.

Now we will try to figure out step by step what and why problems may arise when connecting a laptop to wireless wifi networks. We will also try to find a solution to this very popular and unpleasant problem with connecting to Wi-Fi, or rather, an unsuccessful connection.

Most often, problems arise when it is not possible to turn on the Wi-Fi module itself on the laptop. And when Wi-Fi turns on, everything available networks The laptop finds it, but when I try to connect it says . You need to check whether the drivers are installed on the Wi-Fi adapter, whether Wi-Fi is turned on on the laptop, etc. Now we will do this.

I noticed that most often problems with connecting to Wi-Fi occur in Windows 7. It is on this OS that the network without Internet access error very often appears; I wrote how to solve this problem in the article linked above. In fact, as practice shows, there can be many reasons for this problem. And if there are many reasons, then there are many ways in which you can force a laptop to connect to a Wi-Fi router.

But it’s not always the laptop, netbook, etc. that is to blame. There may also be a problem with the access point, that is, with the Wi-Fi router. And the first thing we need to do when a problem arises with connecting to Wi-Fi is to determine what the reason is, in the laptop, or in the Wi-Fi router. Now I will consider the problem with connecting to my own router. Because if you can’t establish a connection with someone else’s Wi-Fi, then all your complaints are against your neighbor, it’s most likely his problem :).

Who is to blame, the laptop or the Wi-Fi router?

As I wrote above, you first need to find the culprit. Before you make any settings on your laptop or Wi-Fi router, you need to understand what the problem is, which is why you can’t connect your laptop to Wi-Fi. You can just set it up in such a way that then you have to do it and set everything up again. Most The best way To determine which device the problem is hiding in, try connecting another device to the router, for example another laptop, tablet, or phone. If you have a laptop that has problems connecting to Wi-Fi, you should try connecting it to a different wireless network.

I think that you understood my point. If there are other devices connected to your router (best with a similar operating system) will connect without problems, then the problem is in the laptop. Read this article further, now let’s try to solve it.

Well, if problems connecting to your network also occur on other devices, and the “problematic” laptop connects to other networks without problems, then the problem is in setting up the Wi-Fi router. See the article on, it might come in handy.

I will show the example of a laptop that runs on Windows 7. This is currently the most popular operating system.

I advise you to immediately pay attention to the icon that displays the status of your Internet connection. It's located in the notification panel.

If the Internet connection status looks like this:

First you need to check whether the drivers for Wi-Fi are installed and whether the Wi-Fi adapter is turned on.

Click right click on "My computer" and select “Properties”. On the left select "Device Manager".

Open a tab in a new window "Network adapters" and see if there is a device like Wireless Network Adapter (You may have a different name for it). If you have such a device, then right-click on it and select “Properties”. Another window will open, make sure it says “The device is working normally.”

If everything is approximately the same as mine above in the screenshot, then everything is fine, the driver is installed. And if you don’t have a Wireless Network Adapter device and you have unidentified devices, go to your laptop manufacturer’s website, download and install the Wireless Network Adapter driver for your model.

Learn more about installing and updating the driver for the wireless adapter.

We sorted out the drivers.

Checking whether Wi-Fi is turned on on the laptop

If the driver is installed, but the Wi-Fi module is disabled, the connection status will be the same:

Usually the wireless adapter on your laptop is turned on, but it doesn't hurt to check. Wi-Fi on laptops (netbooks) is usually turned on and off using a keyboard shortcut. On my ASUS K56cm, these are the keys FN+F2. But although when I press these keys I get a message that the wireless adapters are enabled/disabled, nothing happens. Look for the key on your laptop FN and a key with a picture of a wireless network. Press them at the same time.

Some laptops may have a special switch on the case that can be used to enable or disable Wi-Fi. For example on Toshiba Satellite L300 it looks like this:

Enable or disable the Wi-Fi wireless adapter in Windows 7

But the best way to check whether the wireless network adapter is working or not is to go to the network control center and take a look.

So, on the notification panel, right-click on the Internet connection status icon and select “Network and Control Center shared access.

Then select on the left.

Among the connections we are looking for “Wireless network connection. If everything is fine and the Wi-Fi adapter is turned on, then it should look like this:

If the adapter is disabled, it will look like the screenshot below. Right-click on it and select “Enable”.

Using the methods described above, we must make sure that the status of the Internet connection in the notification panel is like this:

This status means “No connection – There are connections available”- this means that the Wi-Fi adapter is turned on and there are available wireless networks to connect to.

If the connection status is like this:

This means that Wi-Fi is turned on, but the laptop simply does not see the networks available for connection.

Error “Windows could not connect to...”

We have sorted out the problem when the wireless network module is disabled or does not work at all. Now consider the case when the laptop finds available Wi-Fi network, but when I try to connect to Wi-Fi it says: “Windows was unable to connect to...”, where instead of dots is the name of the network you want to connect to.

If your network connection status is the same as in the screenshot above (via one, network with yellow icon) , then click on it and you will see a list of networks available for connection.

Select the desired network, click on it, then click the “Connect” button.

If the set is password protected, Windows will ask you to provide the password. Enter your network password and click “Ok”.

And if everything is fine, then your laptop should connect to the Internet via a wireless connection. And the Internet connection status should look like this:

But it is at the moment of connection that the error “Windows could not connect to...” very often appears. She looks like this:

Unfortunately, friends, no. definite decision this problem. But I can download that very often the problem with such an error appears due to Wi-Fi settings router. It may be through the type of security and encryption that is installed on the Wi-Fi router, read more about this in the article. There may also be a problem with the distribution of IP addresses.

If you notice that in the window with the error “Windows was unable to connect to...” you can run “Troubleshooting”, it would be a sin not to take advantage. Try running it, I heard somewhere that there are cases in which it helps :). But seriously, sometimes it really helps. Windows will check the readiness of the wireless adapter, check the settings, etc. And if it can, it will fix the problem that is preventing you from connecting to Wi-Fi.

Just reboot your router and then your laptop. Very often this helps.

Update

I noticed that in Windows this error appears when the settings that are saved on the computer for your network do not match current settings networks. I'll explain now.

For example, your laptop was connected to Wi-Fi, it automatically connected to the network. But you went and changed the password, or the type of network encryption. Now the laptop is trying to connect to the network, but the parameters no longer match, and that’s the error.

It is enough to simply delete the network on your computer and re-establish the connection. I wrote about this in an article

Conclusion

It’s a great article, and I hope it’s useful. I wrote it for half a day, with interruptions of course, there were still problems with adding screenshots to the site, but I seemed to have solved it.

I tried to collect everything necessary information, which should help you solve the problem that occurs when connecting a laptop or netbook to Wi-Fi. If I forgot to write something, I will definitely add to the article in the future, and I will also be very grateful if you share in the comments the information that helped you solve the problem with connecting to a wireless network.

If you have any questions, ask them in the comments, we will try to figure it out. Best wishes!

Why doesn't Wi-Fi work on a laptop (netbook)? How to connect a laptop to a Wi-Fi router? Error “Windows could not connect to...” updated: February 7, 2018 by: admin

A wireless Internet connection has many advantages, but there is often a situation when the laptop does not see Wi-Fi network. To begin troubleshooting the problem, you first need to understand what exactly is going on. Sometimes the laptop “refuses” to see a specific connection point, in other cases the device cannot connect to any wireless network at all.

Why doesn't my laptop see the network?

The most common situation is when the laptop does not find any point at all Wi-Fi access. In this case, the following conditions are met:

  • The home Wi-Fi router is working fine and connection to the access point is allowed
  • have you tested the laptop in other places where there is wireless Internet, for example, in a cafe
  • phone, tablet or other devices connect to Wi-Fi normally

To understand why this happens and to deal with the problem, you must first try to manually enable network adapter. Depending on the operating system, this is done in the following ways.

For Windows 7 the sequence looks like this:

  1. You need to go to the Control Panel and select Network and Sharing Center, and in it - Change adapter settings.
  2. If the wireless network icon is inactive, you need to click on it right key mouse and turn it on.

If you have windows computer 8, then the activity check is done through the PC Settings section, which is located in the Control Panel. In it you need to select the Wireless connection item and move the slider to the “Enabled” position.

In Windows XP, the adapter usually does not need to be enabled manually. If this is still necessary, then this is done in the same way as in Windows 7 or through the icon on the taskbar.

The same can be done through Device Manager - Network Adapters.

Whatever the operating system, if next to the adapter icon there is a yellow triangle with exclamation point, this means that either the adapter is not active, or the driver of the wrong version is installed for it. If the device does not show a connection due to the driver, then you should download the required version, suitable for your laptop.

The network is disabled by hardware

Network access can be disabled on the laptop itself using a keyboard shortcut or a special switch on the case. How to make the device connect to the Internet? You must press the same combination again.

For different models laptops this action is performed using various combinations keys: “FN+F2”, “FN+F12”, “FN+F3”, “FN+F9”. These combinations help to turn off the network, for example, before an air flight - this option is called “On the plane” and is available on all modern mobile devices.

No network after cleaning

Also, sometimes you may find that the laptop has stopped seeing the Internet after cleaning the dust from inside. If this happens, then you probably accidentally turned off the wireless module or the wires were disconnected somewhere. In this case, the laptop does not even search for the network. To fix the problem, you will need to reconnect the adapter, and if this does not help, replace it with a new one.

All devices except the laptop see Wi-Fi

Now let’s consider another case, namely, when there is one wifi access point that can be seen by the phone, netbook and other devices, but the laptop does not catch it. In such a situation, the sequence of actions looks like this:

  • First try changing the encryption method by going to your wifi security settings
  • Try installing different meanings in the “Channel” item, perhaps after this the computer will connect to the network
  • You can also give the network a new name, avoiding too complex combinations characters.

Another common reason for a device to ignore specific network or does not see access points at all, including on Windows 10, there may be virus software in the system. In this case, you need to scan your PC for viruses and remove them.

Problems with the router

The “culprit” for the fact that the PC does not find the network may be the wifi router itself. What to do in this case?

  1. First, you should find out if your router has the latest firmware installed. If it's already out a new version, then, accordingly, it needs to be installed on the device.
  2. A more radical option is to reset your home Wi-Fi router to factory settings and configure the device again
  3. Sometimes you have to act more cunningly. More than one is installed first old version firmware, then all network parameters are configured, after which the firmware is updated.

Whatever problem causes the laptop to not see the wireless network, it can be solved using any of the methods listed above. In any case, you should first install current drivers and check if the wifi module is functioning normally.

Video - what to do in such a situation?

To prevent such problems from recurring in the future, it is worth periodically installing latest versions software to your laptop or netbook. This can be done either manually or using special programs.

Many users sooner or later encounter this problem. There may be various reasons why Wi-Fi on a laptop does not work. Perhaps you recently installed a new operating system, bought a new router or flashed an old one, etc.

In general, if you also find yourself in such a situation, and you I can't connect my laptop to the Wi-Fi network, then in this article we will look at several methods that should help you connect your laptop to Wi-Fi.

Let's start with the simplest - reboot the router. To do this, you need to unplug the power supply, wait 10 seconds and plug it back in. Then restart your operating system.

Do network diagnostics. Although many are quite skeptical about this advice, but sometimes it can help too. Right-click on the wireless network icon in the tray and select "Diagnosing problems". Windows will scan and if it finds a problem, it will suggest ways to solve it.

If after this, the laptop still does not see Wi-Fi, check is it turned on on the laptop? wireless adapter WiFi.

Find the wireless network icon on one of the F1-F12 buttons, for me it’s F2. Also, on the button itself, near the power button or touchpad, there should be a light indicator that indicates that Wi-Fi is on. Specifically in my case, if Wi-Fi is turned off, the indicator light is on. To turn it on, press the combination Fn+F2.

You also need to check that the network card is enabled. To do this, right-click on the wireless network icon in the tray and select "Network and Sharing Center".

In the next window click "Change adapter settings".

If you have "Wireless network connection" highlighted in grey, right-click on it and select “Enable”.

After this, the icon should become colored. This indicates that the network adapter is enabled and the laptop can connect to the Wi-Fi network.

Check your network adapter drivers. Click “Start” and write in the search bar "Device Manager" and follow the found link.

There are several main reasons why computer can be isolated from the rest of the network. Usually the problem lies in incorrect firewall settings and similar programs.

Instructions

Open the Start menu and go to Run. Enter in the field that opens cmd command and press Enter. Type the command ipconfig /all in the menu that appears and write down the MAC address of the desired network card. Enter its value in the above table.

Clear the Routing Table or Route Table menu items that are associated with this computer ohm Make sure that NAT is enabled for this PC. Save your router settings.

Now check the settings yourself computer A. First, be sure to turn off third party programs who control network traffic. This could be the Outpost Firewall utility or its analogues. Now turn off the Windows Firewall service. As practice shows, it is very difficult to configure it yourself, and the effect of its work is too little.

Open the Start menu and go to Control Panel. Find and open the “Administration” item, which is located in the “System and Security” menu. Open Services. Find the service " Windows Firewall", right-click on it and select "Stop". Now open its properties and set the “Startup type” field to “Disabled”.

Check the network adapter settings. Make sure that the specified IP address is within a valid zone. Try changing its value to the address of one of the network computer ov, after turning off the second PC. Reboot computer and try again to access network resources.

The list of reasons why a computer/laptop freezes is quite long: failure of operating system system files, overload system resources, bad sector on the hard drive, overheating of internal parts, exposure to viruses and others. If your laptop freezes, you need to restart it.

You will need

  • - administrator rights.

Instructions

Laptops, unlike desktop computers, do not have Reset buttons. Therefore, when the system freezes, the user has only one option: turn off the device completely. To do this, you need to press the power button and hold it down until the laptop turns off (usually no more than 30 seconds). As a rule, the button is kept pressed all this time. Users often do not wait for the shutdown time and think that their laptop is not turning off.

If the shutdown occurred due to severe overheating(this can be felt by abnormally hot air near the laptop's ventilation holes on its own. Such actions will void your device's warranty if the warranty period has not yet expired. Contact a specialist at service center, and they will definitely help you solve this problem, but you will have to pay.

What to do if WiFi does not work on your laptop: Video

An article about the reasons for this. that the computer or laptop does not see the Internet entry point through the router. Ways to fix the problem.

  • We accept a message about fixing problems or a hint about further actions.

Solving the hardware error problem

Hardware error or error, this is a problem with the components for assembly computer device(video card, processor device, etc.).

Errors occur when the device is under heavy load, operating at elevated air temperatures, incorrect setting, failure of the radiator fan, and so on. As a result, the computer simply breaks down, it follows that WiFi hotspot absent.

The solution of the problem:

  • If the computer does not work due to system overheating, the broken part should be replaced. Repairs can be made at a service center.
  • If a computer or laptop does not work due to a disconnected antenna, check whether the antenna is connected to the adapter and whether the connection terminals are clogged with dust or dirt.
  • If the above actions do not lead to the desired result, the devices do not see the Network access point, contact a technical support center and a specialist.

After consideration general issues by access point WiFi, we'll tell you why it may not work wireless network on routers companies Tp-Link.
Example, Tp-Link router connected, in working mode, the Internet does not pass through.
The problem is solved in the following way:

  • check switching on WiFi on a computer device
check if you see other networks.
  • when purchasing a new router, the network will have a standard name. Turn off the router, noting which network will disappear.
  • reboot your router.
  • access to Net will recover.
  • if the problem persists, check the router's connection to the network electric current and turn on the key ON/OFF on the device (option No. 1).

Check the connection of the router to the electrical network and turn on the ON/OFF key on the device

  • reboot your device.
  • activate the key "Save".
  • signal transmission WiFi network using Tp-Link router, will be in action.

We have looked at the main problems and their solutions that make it impossible to access Net through router on a computer, laptop.

We hope you find the information useful! Good luck on the Internet!

We have already looked at solutions to many problems that may arise when connecting a laptop to a Wi-Fi network, or during use. But, there is one popular problem that I have not written about yet. This is when the laptop does not see the Wi-Fi network. In principle, the problem applies not only to laptops, but also to desktop computer that are connected to Wi-Fi via an adapter (external or internal). The problem when the laptop does not see Wi-Fi can be encountered in Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, and even in Windows 10. If you have Windows 10 installed and the computer does not see your router, then see separate instructions:. Since the solutions there are practically the same, it doesn’t matter what system your laptop is running on. Now we will try to figure out why the laptop does not see wireless networks, using Windows 7 as an example.

Before moving on to any settings, let's try to figure out what problem you specifically have. There are two options:

  • When no Wi-Fi network is displayed in the list of networks available for connection. That is, the computer does not find Wi-Fi at all. But, are you sure that there are wireless networks within the radius? Other devices see them.
  • And when the laptop does not see only your Wi-Fi network, but sees other neighboring networks.

I will divide this article into these two parts. You can immediately go to the required section with the solution to your problem.

Another important point. If you have an error on your computer "No connections available", and a red cross next to the Wi-Fi connection icon, then there is a separate solution to solve this error.

Why doesn't my laptop see wireless networks (not a single one)?

The most popular reasons:

  • There are no available networks within the radius (we have already ruled this out)
  • The wireless adapter driver is not installed and therefore cannot find wireless networks. Or the driver is installed, but does not work correctly.
  • Wi-Fi on the laptop is simply turned off.
  • It happens that the Wi-Fi receiver is simply faulty or disabled (for example, while cleaning a laptop from dust).

But, most often, of course, the problem is a disabled wireless adapter, or the absence of the necessary driver. This is what we will consider now.

Checking the wireless adapter driver

If you see a connection icon in the form of a computer with a red cross on your notification panel, then the driver is most likely not installed.

To check, we need to go to the device manager. Open menu Start, right click on Computer, and select Control. In the new window, go to the tab device Manager. Open section Network adapters, and see if there is an adapter whose name contains the words “Wi-Fi” or “Wireless”. It looks something like this:

If such an adapter is not there, as a rule, in this case only one adapter (network card) is displayed there, then it needs to be installed. If it is there, then it should be without any icons, like in my screenshot above. If there is an icon near the Wi-Fi adapter, then right-click on it and select Engage. Most likely you will have to install required driver. We have separate instructions for installation: .

If everything is fine with the driver, then let's Let's check if Wi-Fi is turned on on your computer.

Right-click on the network connection icon, and select Network and Sharing Center. Then, select Change adapter settings.

After this, the computer should see wireless networks, and you can easily connect to your Wi-Fi network.

You may have wireless networks turned off by a keyboard shortcut on your laptop. You need to check, I wrote about this in more detail in the article:. And if you have a “ten”: .

After these steps, everything should work for you. The main thing is that the Wi-Fi network icon with a yellow asterisk appears, this means that there are networks available for connection.

The laptop does not see my Wi-Fi, but does see others. Solution to the problem.

If above we considered the situation when wireless networks are not displayed on the laptop at all, now we will figure out why the laptop does not see only one Wi-Fi network that we need. And other networks, neighboring ones, are displayed in the list of available ones. This problem most often appears on mobile devices: smartphones and tablets. But computers are no exception.

In this case, the problem must be looked for on the side of the Wi-Fi router. Almost always, the solution is the same: change Wi-Fi network channel. If the router itself, or you are in manual mode If you set the settings to static channel 13, then the computer most likely will not see the network. Therefore, you need to check and change the channel in the router settings. I wrote in the article how to change the channel on different routers:

For example, change the channel on Tp-Link. You can change it in the settings, on the Wireless tab (Wireless mode) . Try to put static channel (just don't put 12 and 13), or set to Auto.

If it doesn’t help, you can also change the name of the Wi-Fi network. You can also do this in the settings, on the wireless network settings tab.

Another tip: try moving your laptop closer to the router, or vice versa. Perhaps this is the problem. There are often cases when Wi-Fi catches even close to the router, but on a short distance does not work. This is of course not normal, but somehow specific solution I don't know. Again, you need to try experimenting with channels.

Unfortunately, many of us have encountered a problem when the laptop stops finding a wireless network, which creates significant inconvenience. Considering that the laptop can be used outside the home, the user may be left without the Internet at all. There can be many reasons for this little pleasant moment. But, as a rule, the problem is technical, or in the incorrect operation of the software. To understand how to deal with the problem, let's look at it in more detail.

In order to understand the causes of the problem and understand why the laptop does not find WiFi router or home WiFi network, you need to know what WiFi is and understand how this system wireless communication arranged.

WiFi is the same the local network, only without the need for cable installation. Connection to the network occurs through a signal that is transmitted via radio waves.

This system gained popularity not so long ago. A dozen years ago, no one knew about it, and the signal distance was much shorter. To be precise, the signal can be sent over a distance of 100 km.

In addition, WiFi is a registered brand that is developing very actively. In 2014, data transfer speeds via WiFi should increase to several Gbit/s. To put it simply, this method of connecting to the network is now very popular. Almost every laptop has a built-in sensor that allows you to use a wireless network. At bus stops, in cafes or any other public places, owners install free points

access, which increases the level of comfort of an establishment or public place.

The main reasons for the lack of WiFi

As mentioned above, the main reasons can be divided into technical and software. In the case of technical ones, the owner of a laptop will most likely have to contact a service center and spend money on repairing it. At best, figure out the reason for the poor performance of the router.

Availability of WiFi on laptop and router

It’s worth starting with the very basics, which can be forgotten due to haste or inattention. Make sure that the receiving antenna is turned on. If it doesn't work, then the problem is obvious.

Not all laptop models have this switch, but some do have it. Most often it looks not like a button, but like a latch. However, it depends on the manufacturer. The switch may have a signature or image of an antenna, which indicates WiFi.

If there is no such button on your laptop model, then you need to pay attention to the bottom panel of the operating system, to the icon next to the time. The image should show whether the wireless connection is currently active.

It is possible that this icon on the panel next to the time is not there.

To check activity without using this icon, you need to:

Checking available networks

The next thing to do is check the available networks. Perhaps the router simply does not reach the laptop’s antenna and for this reason it is impossible to connect to the network.

  1. To do this you need:
  2. Click on the network icon in the lower right corner, on the bottom panel, next to the time. Select “Connect to a network” and select desired point

access. Most likely, there will be more than one access point, since you can see neighbors or some other routers. But, in most cases, a password is placed on the access point, thus protecting it from unauthorized users.

Video: What to do if your ASUS laptop cannot find Wi-Fi

The laptop does not see the WiFi network: the main reasons

Why doesn't my laptop see the WiFi network? Perhaps the solution to the problem is right in front of you and only takes five seconds of your time. But there are also more severe cases. Let's look at the most common options.

Router It is worth making sure that the router is turned on. Its operation can be easily determined by indicator lights. After connecting, look at the corresponding icons in the instructions for the router and determine whether.

wireless connection

If the router does not respond at all, then the problem is purely technical. In this situation, you should look for a problem in the wires, power supply, or take the router for repair. As a rule, it is easier to replace the router with a new one than to send it to service centers for inspection.

Drivers As you know, any equipment requires software that guarantees stable work

. If the laptop does not detect WiFi, then you should check the drivers. Even if they are installed, it is recommended to update them. In the “device manager” section there is a line “network adapters”, which should contain the name of the router if the problem is with the drivers. Right-click on it and look at the driver version. Compare it with the real version, which can be found on the Internet.

If the version is outdated, then download a new one and install. It is best to download from official sources. Drivers for hardware are distributed by developers free of charge, and there is no point in risking the “health” of your operating system in vain.

Signal distance

If after searching for a network the answer appears: “No connections available,” think about the signal. In apartments, this option is not very relevant, since modern routers have strong signal and spread it far enough. But in private homes or other places where the distance can be quite large, the signal simply may not reach the laptop. Therefore, you should not be surprised if the Internet suddenly disappeared while you were walking around the house or yard.

Mac address

There are situations when I was able to connect, but the router does not see the Internet through my WiFi or has stopped seeing it. When using services from some providers, the user cannot simply change the network adapter, since the Mac address changes.

The Mac address is written on each router and the user just needs to call the operator to new address tie in to replace the old one. You may be asked to dictate it in full or to specify only the last few values of the entire number.

Antivirus or third party programs

Third-party programs installed on a laptop may conflict with drivers or interfere with the correct establishment of an Internet connection, which often happens when the device sees wifi but does not connect. In addition, sometimes antiviruses interfere with creating a connection. If possible, it is better to try connecting to the Internet without a router first. If everything is fine, then the programs are not to blame.

In addition to those listed, there can be many reasons. Basically, the variety of reasons is due to problems with the operating system.

Therefore, if all else fails, try reinstalling your operating system. Perhaps all the problems come from here.

The laptop does not see the WIFI network on Windows7/Windows 8/WindowsXP For those who are wondering why the laptop does not see wifi Windows

The next thing to do is check the available networks. Perhaps the router simply does not reach the laptop’s antenna and for this reason it is impossible to connect to the network.

In Windows 8, activity is checked through the “PC Settings” item. Next, you need to select the “wireless connection” line and move the slider on the right side of the menu to the “On” state.

A wireless network when using Windows XP does not require manual activation and, as a rule, connects like Windows 7. It is enough to activate it through the control panel or through the wireless icon through the bottom panel of the system.

How to set up a wireless network

For comfortable use network, some users resort to settings. Usually enough standard settings, but if you want, you can delve into your personal account. It is through Personal Area parameters are changed.

The login and password are specified by the router manufacturers, and you can find this data in the instructions. The address that will take you to your personal account is also indicated there. It is best to replace the default data so that no one can use it.

All other settings are made on the laptop itself, and they are installed using the Network Control Center.

WiFi without internet due to Windows

There are rare cases when the operating system itself does not want to detect a wireless connection and shows that there is no external network at all. This option may exist when using non-licensed OS. Some people prefer to use amateur assemblies, which do not load the system as much and allow you to squeeze more out of the hardware.

Another reason could be a clogged system. System folders, over time, become clogged unnecessary files and if you do not defragment, the processor will be increasingly loaded. Antiviruses also cannot keep a laptop clean forever.

In any case, all problems with the OS can be solved by a simple reinstallation. After reinstalling Windows everything should work. Thus, the solution to the problem lies only in the functionality of the router, turned on WiFi on the laptop, or the presence of the necessary software. If these points are observed, WiFi will not present difficulties and will delight the user with stable operation.

Wi-Fi technology is very widely used in life. modern man, because it allows you to easily and quickly solve problems with connecting to the Internet without using conventional wires. This is especially true when using laptops, with which you can access the Internet at any time. convenient location thanks to the built-in Wi-Fi adapter.

This is why the situation when Wi-Fi does not work on a laptop leads to significant inconvenience and even some problems. The reasons why laptop computer Wi-Fi may not work, there are quite a few. It is simply unrealistic to solve the most serious of them on your own without the help of specialists, but there are quite a lot of them that can be eliminated on your own. Let's look at them.

Is the problem with your laptop or router?

A fairly common problem is that the laptop has stopped connecting to WiFi networks, the problem is not with the laptop itself, but with the settings of the router, which distributes the network. Thus, the laptop can be configured correctly, but Wi-Fi still does not turn on precisely because it has nothing to connect to.

To rule out the possibility that this is the problem, you should try to connect to the network from any other device that is equipped with Wi-Fi adapter– from another laptop, smartphone, tablet, etc.

If Wi-Fi does not work from another gadget, then the problem lies in the Wi-Fi router distributing the Internet. If the connection is successful, the problem is in the laptop and before solving it, you first need to determine why Wi-Fi stopped working.

Hardware enable adapter

Based on such diagnostics, it is possible to accurately determine that this problem arose precisely because of the laptop. When Wi-Fi does not work on it, you can try using several methods.

The first one is to check if the wireless adapter on your laptop is enabled. Almost everything modern models have indicator lights WiFi work module and for its hardware enablement there is special combinations keys

Usually glowing indicator indicates that the module is turned on. If the indicator does not light up at all or lights up in red, then Wi-Fi is not working precisely because of the wireless network adapter. It must be turned on.

Most often, such indicators are located directly on the keyboard, side or front panel of the device case. Sometimes they are located on the monitor body or near the touchpad.

To enable the module of such a network, press the key combination Fn and one of the system keys F1-F12. The specific combination depends on the laptop manufacturer. Usually on the desired key the corresponding antenna icon is located. If it is not there, then to turn on Wi-Fi you should try pressing standard for specific model combination:
Fn+F3 for Acer;
Fn+F2 for Asus, Dell or Gigabyte;
Fn+F5 on Fujitsu devices;
Fn+F12 on HP laptops.

After pressing the appropriate keys, we check whether the wireless connection module operation indicator lights up or whether it stops glowing red. After this, you should try to connect to the network again. If this does not help, move on to the next step.

Software enablement

When Wi-Fi stops working and turning it on in hardware doesn’t work positive results, you also need to enable it programmatically, which is done directly from the operating system under which the laptop runs.

To implement software turning on WiFi that has stopped working on Windows 7, 8 or 10, you need to perform the following sequence of actions:

1. On the notification panel, which is located near the clock, select the network connection status icon;

2. From the list that opens, select “Network and Sharing Center” or “ Network settings» depending on the version of the operating system;

3. The next step is “Changing adapter parameters.”

Among the list of all existing connections You need to pay attention to the color of the “Wireless Network Connection” icon. If your WiFi does not work and the wireless adapter is disabled, the connection icon will not be highlighted. In this case, right-click on its icon, from the opened context menu select the “Enable” item. The color of the connection icon should change.

In this case, the wireless network adapter turns on, all you have to do is find the one you need in the list of available wireless networks and connect to it.

If after such Wi-Fi action which has stopped working continues to be inactive, you need to move on to the next method of solving the problem.

Driver installation and update

Quite often, the wireless Wi-Fi connection does not turn on due to the lack of a driver or when it is very outdated. To determine availability installed driver, you need to select “Properties” from the context menu of the “My Computer” icon, which is located on the desktop or in the “Start” menu. Next, in the window that opens, select the “Device Manager” command from the menu on the left.

In the new window that opens with a list of connected devices, you need to find the name of the laptop’s wireless network adapter. Usually its name is “Wireless Network Adapter” or “Wireless Network Adapter”, along with which the device manufacturer should be indicated: Realtek, Atheros, Qualcomm or something else.

Having found desired item and by right-clicking on it, select “Properties” from the context menu. In the window that opens, there should be an item “Device is working normally.” But even if there is a mark about normal operation device, this is far from a guarantee that it is installed correct version drivers and Wi-Fi turn on correctly. To check it, in the properties window wireless device go to the “Driver” tab and pay attention to the “Development date” and “Supplier” items.

In the event that the supplier is Microsoft or the date of development of the program is several years behind the current one, go to the official website of the laptop manufacturer and download the latest official version drivers.

The same must be done if among the list installed devices There was no wireless adapter.

If the wireless communication module is present in the list of devices, but is marked with a yellow exclamation mark, this means that the device is disabled, as a result of which the network has stopped working. In this case, opening the device properties window, you need to click the “Engage” button.

Another reason why Wi-Fi stopped working on a laptop may be that the energy-saving mode is enabled, which prevents the wireless connection from working. To disable it, you need to do the following:
1. Open Control Panel;
2. Select the “Power Options” icon;

3. In the window that opens, select the “High Performance” or “Balanced” mode.

External obstacles to the signal

It's also worth noting that a broken wireless network can also be the result of more than just laptop problems. The wireless signal is affected by some external factors that may weaken it. Ceilings, walls, floors and similar obstacles significantly degrade the signal quality of the access point and laptop.

As is known, the signal quality is personal computer is displayed in the form of several marks - the more there are, the higher the quality of the signal. If the wireless connection level is displayed as 1 or 2 marks, then you don’t have to try to use WiFi - in this case it will not work normally.

In this case, you need to move the router closer to your workplace, move workplace closer to the Wi-Fi router or buy a new, more powerful router.

Other causes of Wi-Fi problems

The causes of problems with the functioning of the wireless network adapter described above are the most common and you can fix them on your own.

It is worth noting that all this is software methods solutions to the problem, which can be solved by installing, reinstalling or updating the device driver, as well as performing certain operations with the OS.

But often the problem with the operation of the wireless connection module lies in hardware errors. What are these errors? These are problems that are directly related to the board itself, most often due to its physical damage.

To fix such problems, you will need to disassemble the laptop. It is worth noting that such actions can only be performed if you have certain skills in this area. If such skills are missing, it is better to entrust the work to professionals.

One of the most common physical damages is an unconnected antenna wire to the proximity module. This problem occurs with laptops that have been repaired or if their owner independently cleaned the cooling system from dust. In such cases, the antenna is sometimes simply forgotten, as a result of which the adapter will not be able to establish a connection even near the signal source. To fix this problem, you just need to connect to Wi-Fi module his antenna.

Sometimes the reason that Wi-Fi stops working is the usual overheating of the network card. Most often this is the result of the laptop being placed on some kind of soft surface. The thing is that at the bottom of the device there are holes through which cold air enters, cooling all the computer boards. By blocking these holes, the system will overheat, which can lead to failure of certain components.

Another common cause of device overheating is dust, which can prevent cold air from entering the cooling system.

That is why, in order to avoid such problems, it is recommended to clean the laptop from dust at least once every year: in this case, it will be possible to avoid repairing the laptop as a result of overheating of its components.

In the most extreme cases, the wireless adapter may even burn out. In this case, only replacing it with a new one will help. You can determine this problem using the device manager, in which the module will simply no longer be displayed. When you try to install a driver for a wireless network, a message appears stating that the corresponding device is not installed on the system.

If all else fails

If none of the tips above helped, you can use a simple, but often effective solution: restart both the computer and wireless router. Please note that after a reboot, the router turns on for up to 5-10 minutes before it starts distributing the network. Be patient. Also, despite the opinion of many skeptics, sometimes the troubleshooting function that is included in the wireless network helps to solve problems with the wireless network. operating system Windows.

Thus, most of the above have been listed existing solutions problems related to the fact that Wi-Fi stopped working on the laptop. Almost all such methods and recommendations can be used by anyone who is faced with similar problem, since this does not require any special skills.
If nothing helps, and the wireless network does not start working, there is only one option left - go for help to a quality service center, where they can solve any problems with the laptop.
