TFT IPS- High quality liquid crystal matrix. It has wide viewing angles, one of the best indicators of color rendering quality and contrast among all those used in the production of displays for portable equipment.
Super AMOLED- if a regular AMOLED screen uses several layers, between which there is an air gap, then in Super AMOLED there is only one such touch layer without air gaps. This allows you to achieve greater screen brightness with the same power consumption.
Super AMOLED HD- differs from Super AMOLED in its higher resolution, thanks to which you can achieve 1280x720 pixels on a mobile phone screen.
Super AMOLED plus- this is a new generation of Super AMOLED displays, differs from the previous one by using a larger number of subpixels in a conventional RGB matrix. The new displays are 18% thinner and brighter than displays made using the old PenTile technology.
AMOLED- an improved version of OLED technology. The main advantages of the technology are significantly reduced power consumption, the ability to display a larger color gamut, reduced thickness and the ability of the display to bend slightly without the risk of breaking.
Retina- high pixel density display designed specifically for Apple technology. The pixel density of Retina displays is such that individual pixels are indistinguishable to the eye at a normal distance from the screen. This ensures the highest image detail and significantly improves the overall viewing experience.
Super Retina HD- the display is made using OLED technology. The pixel density is 458 PPI, the contrast reaches 1,000,000:1. The display has a wide color gamut and unsurpassed color accuracy. Pixels in the corners of the display are smoothed at the sub-pixel level, so edges are not distorted and appear smooth. The Super Retina HD reinforcing layer is 50% thicker. It will be harder to break the screen.
Super LCD is the next generation of LCD technology, it is characterized by improved characteristics compared to earlier LCD displays. The screens not only have wide viewing angles and better color reproduction, but also lower power consumption.
TFT- A common type of liquid crystal display. Using an active matrix controlled by thin-film transistors, it is possible to significantly increase the performance of the display, as well as the contrast and clarity of the image.
OLED- organic electroluminescent display. It consists of a special thin-film polymer that emits light when exposed to an electric field. This type of display has a large reserve of brightness and consumes very little energy.

Video review

Design, construction and equipment

The Indian-made phone is sold in a small blue box, at the bottom of which the possible color options are indicated. The model is supplied to Russia in four colors - red, dark gray, sand and blue. The package includes an AC-11 charger with a 2 mm plug, a BL-4U battery with a capacity of 1110 mAh, a WH-102 headset, a short microUSB cable and a 2 GB memory card.

The front side contains a speaker, a logo, light and distance sensors, a 3” capacitive display with a resolution of 400 x 240 pixels, two telephone keys (dial and hang up), and a microphone. On the left side there are holes for a rope, on the right - a volume rocker and a lock key, on the bottom - empty, on the top - 2 mm, 3.5 mm and microUSB connectors (for charging and data transfer). At the back there is an overly large 3.2-megapixel camera window, a logo, model name and the main speaker.

The cover is removed with a slight upward movement of the palm. Below it, the user sees a battery, under which there are two inconvenient trays - for a regular SIM card and a microSD memory card. I recommend keeping them busy and leaving them alone so as not to loosen the lid.

Before I saw the Asha 311 in person, it seemed to me to be a large and weighty device. In fact, it is a compact and lightweight candy bar, which, despite its size, is comfortable and ergonomic. The materials for Nokia Asha 311 are not very well chosen. From a distance it looks interesting and fresh, but as soon as you come closer and pick it up, unsightly stains and scratches on the lid and edging, stylized as metal, immediately catch your eye. At the same time, the plastic of the lower block looks like new and it is much more practical than the nasty gloss, which neither a magic cloth (from fingerprints) nor a case (from scratches) can save.

Software

The phone is based on the Series 40 Developer Platform 2.0 (Nokia OS) with a swipe interface (originally called Asha Touch). As you might guess, the main difference between DP 2.0 and DP 1.1, on which the first Ashas were built, was optimization for full touch control. At the same time, the company has almost completely changed the user shell and the design of screens and various menus. I immediately apologize for the “screenshots”. It was not possible to remove them in the normal way (Nokia Screen Dumper 2.0 did not help), so I had to photograph the display.

There are three main screens. On the first one (with date and time), the user can place links to frequently used functions and applications. Here you can specify subscribers for prompt dialing. The second screen is the most important. It contains all the programs and services installed on the Asha 311. The third screen can take the form of a dialer, radio player or music player. The transition between screens is carried out by “swiping” (that is, swiping with your fingers from right to left and left to right). A pleasant surprise awaits us if we swipe our finger from top to bottom on any of the screens - a “tab” similar to the notification menu in Android, Symbian and iOS will appear, where there are four shortcut keys for data transfer, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and silent mode. From there you can go to mail, calls, player...

I won’t go through all the applications, but some are worth mentioning. For example, a browser. Version 2.0 boasts Nokia's cloud compression technology, which reduces the amount of data transferred by 90%. This in turn makes using mobile Internet 85% cheaper and up to 2 times faster. Today, unlimited services from our operators are available at quite reasonable prices, but those who cannot afford them or do not want them will positively evaluate the company’s development. However, you need to keep in mind that data reduction comes at the expense of content compression, so don’t be surprised if the quality of the pictures seems terrible to you. However, on a phone with such a diagonal and resolution this is not critical. Especially for Russians, the browser has bookmarks on the most popular Internet resources in Russia, and Yandex is used as a search service. The company claims over 10 thousand web applications, of which not all will seem useful. But it’s hard to overestimate the ability to save content in the browser (photos, videos, music appear in the download menu).

The keyboard has two types. Due to the small screen size, it may seem that the miniature QWERTY is not easy to work with, but in fact, clicks are detected correctly in the vast majority of cases. In this case, you can select different layouts for languages.

You shouldn’t count on fancy 3D – the toys in the Asha Touch line are simple. Asha 311 comes pre-installed with several demo versions and Angry Birds with 15 levels (the birds are quite playable). But who cares about demos when Electronic Arts is giving away 40 free games in the Nokia store to all smartphone buyers? These include FIFA 12, Need For Speed, Tetris, The Sims, Bejeweled, Chuzzle, C&C Red Alert, Monopoly, Peggle, Worms. In addition to games, the store has various programs - paid and free. They take quantity rather than quality - there are several tens of thousands of them.

A few more screenshots of different applications. By the way, the press releases mention the VKontakte Chat application for instant messaging on VKontakte, but I never found it. I don't know where they hid her. There is a chat, but there is no VKontakte Chat. Among the social network clients, Facebook and Twitter are installed on the device, notifications about events in which appear in the background. They are not as convenient as on older platforms, but they cope with their tasks.

Camera

Nokia Asha 311 uses a 3.2-megapixel camera without flash and autofocus. Its settings are primitive and there is practically nothing to change. Just for fun, you can activate the “fun” mode, in which frames are shot with funny sounds.

The video is recorded in 3gp format with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels at a speed of 25 frames per second. Photos and videos turn out good for their resolutions.

Experience of use

The battery capacity is not amazing (1110 mAh), but the operating time is decent. The manufacturer itself claims up to 6 hours of talk time and 744 hours of standby time (in 3G). When playing video with maximum screen brightness and all active wireless modules, the model worked for 5.5 hours. This is a good result. If you use the phone only for calls and messages, it will last two to three days without any problems.

You can't expect miracles from a 1 GHz processor and 128 MB of RAM, but the platform is unpretentious and the phone works quickly. This is perhaps the fastest Nokia device, excluding solutions with Windows Phone and 808 PureView with Symbian. This device claims to support satellite navigation via Nokia Maps, but since it doesn’t have GPS, the service only works over Wi-Fi, that is, it’s clumsy. Compatibility with many multimedia formats is declared, but the phone, of course, does not support lossless or HD video. The speakers are loud, the network is caught confidently.

The Asha 311 screen has a 3” diagonal, a resolution of 400 x 240 pixels (155 ppi) and a polarizing layer for better performance in the sun. Displays 65 thousand colors, covered with Gorilla Glass. Contrary to what the audience may think, this glass can be scratched and may break if dropped, so be careful. I liked the panel for its responsiveness, color reproduction and high viewing angles, which is unusual for phones of this class. There is also multi-touch (zooming with two fingers).

The company itself sees Samsung phones from the Star series as competitors to the Nokia Asha 311, as well as its devices running bada. But nothing prevents us from putting the Finnish model on the same level as budget Android solutions themselves. And the target audience is easy to notice. A cheerful bell during shooting, free games, flirting with smartphones, advertising and possible color schemes - everything clearly points to active youth.

Bottom line

Smartphones are on everyone’s lips and they are actively replacing regular phones. Many users do not understand the difference between them, but want smartphones. After all, it's fashionable and cool. Nokia, when launching the Asha Touch line, called the devices included in it simply “models with touch control.” Then she came from afar and used the phrase “smart as a smartphone” in advertising, but in September, as part of the announcement of Asha 308/309, she became completely bold and openly called these phones smartphones.

Her explanation is that Asha Touch phones have a dynamic user interface and are supported by an open environment for third-party developers to create applications. At the same time, she refers to the analytical agencies GfK and IDC, as well as research companies that classify the new Asha as full-featured smartphones. It is your right to agree with this or not. But I believe that the line between smartphones and non-smartphones is now barely noticeable and the same Nokia Asha 311 can be considered a smartphone. It has social network clients, there are games, the interface is customizable, the device has some kind of application running in the background, again there is a browser and a software store. Still, bada backgrounds are related to smartphones, but why is Asha worse?

And if you want a simple, long-lasting smartphone with a balance of performance, entertainment and social features, and price and speed are important to you, then the Nokia Asha 311 is a great candidate to buy.

For Nokia Asha 311 There are several cases available in different colors. You can choose between blue, pink or grey. All of them are made of glossy plastic. The phone case dimensions are 106x52x12.9 mm, weight 95 g. Nokia Asha 311 has almost the same dimensions as the Asha 305 and Asha 306 models, so it too is small and compact. The assembly is very good, the plastic cover holds tightly and is fixed securely and thoroughly. At the same time, it is easy to remove; you just need to press on the plastic panel and pull it down. Inside you can see a small sticker, which apparently serves to enhance the rigidity of the structure. The phone is almost completely glossy, with only a small insert at the bottom made of matte plastic, painted to match the entire body. There is a microUSB connector at the top end, you can connect a cable to it and also use a charger. There is a 2mm “slim” connector for the included charger. There is also a 3.5 mm audio port for headphones. On the back side there is a 3.2-megapixel camera lens on a special insert, which is decorated with a silver rim. At the bottom there is a speaker slot.

IN Nokia Asha 311 A display with a diagonal of 3 inches and a resolution of 240x400 pixels is installed. Up to 65 thousand colors are displayed. This is a capacitive screen, in this regard the phone looks much more interesting than the Nokia Asha 305 and Asha 306. It has noticeably better sensitivity, the sensor works very well, and is more pleasant to use. The TFT display is ordinary, it is quite bright, and the viewing angles are average. There is no inversion of colors, but the picture from the outside does not look so good. Typical behavior for an inexpensive phone. There is no sensor for manually adjusting the backlight. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass and should not be scratched. This is also a tangible advantage compared to the simple coverage of the simpler models of the Asha line, whose screen is not of such outstanding quality. Official data says that the phone is capable of up to 744 hours of standby time and up to 14 hours of talk time. Battery capacity – 1110 mAh. Usually the phone lasts for 1.5-3 days, depending on the load. With 20 minutes of calls, 10 photos, two hours of player per day, it turns out from 2.5 to 3 days of work. If there is a lot of mobile Internet and navigation, then you can discharge the phone in a day.

IN Nokia Asha 311 You can hear the ringtone perfectly, it has a loud speaker and a good vibration alert. The model turned out to be definitely more interesting than the Nokia Asha 305 and Asha 306. The screen coverage is better, the sensor works more accurately, the phone itself works noticeably faster even in the menu when performing similar operations. In addition, it will be faster in more resource-intensive applications such as a browser or toys. Useful additions include Internet radio and customizable Internet telephony. It's good that 3G is supported, and there is also Wi-Fi.

Design

Nokia Asha 311 is available in several different colors. You can choose between blue, pink or grey. All of them are made of glossy plastic.

They look brighter than the more modest shells of and, but are more susceptible to scratches. In addition, marks and fingerprints remain on the glossy plastic, which will not please scrupulous users.

At the same time, the design of the device is very original and a small, cute phone will clearly appeal to a young audience who is not averse to choosing a bright gadget for themselves.

The dimensions of the phone body are 106x52x12.9 mm, weight is 95 g. Nokia Asha 311 has almost the same dimensions as the Asha 305 and Asha 306 models, so it turned out to be small and compact.

There is a strap holder on the left side.

On the right is the volume button with a small and hard stroke. Below is a screen lock key with similar feedback.

There is nothing on the bottom end.

At the top is the earpiece and proximity sensor.

Below the screen are two separate small bell buttons. They are significantly raised above the surface and can be pressed easily and accurately.

On the back side there is a 3.2-megapixel camera lens on a special insert, which is decorated with a silver rim. At the bottom there is a speaker slot.

Under the removable cover you can find the battery, SIM card compartment and microSD slot. The card cannot be quickly replaced; it is hidden under the battery, so rebooting the phone will be an inevitable circumstance.

Screen

The phone has a 3-inch display with a resolution of 240x400 pixels.

This is also a noticeable plus compared to the simple coverage of the simpler models of the Asha line, whose screen is not of such outstanding quality.

Menu

The Series 40 touchscreen has been thoroughly redesigned and presented in an updated form. The lock screen displays the time and date, as well as information about missed events: calls and messages. To unlock the phone, you need to swipe your finger across the display from left to right or vice versa.

On the desktop there are indicators for cellular network signal reception, battery charge, time, date, and the mode selected by the user is displayed. Icons for quickly calling contacts that are stored in the phone's memory, as well as application shortcuts, are displayed. In the settings section, a list of the required software is created, which will be located in the most visible place.

The screens are scrollable, except for the area with icons that the user configures at his own discretion, there is a section with all the icons in the menu, and there is also a quick transition to the call menu. The phone has design themes, the picture on the desktop changes. Kinetic scrolling works in applications, although not always smoothly. At the top there is a notification line, which also includes shortcuts for quickly managing connections (data transfer, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth) and volume.

Phone book

The phone memory is enough for 2000 contacts. A search bar is displayed at the top, which works based on the first letters of the name. Can't search for a phone number by last name. Contacts are copied from the SIM card to the phone memory and vice versa. The location for displaying data is set: phone memory and SIM card or separately. Select the display method: first name or last name.

When creating a new contact, he is assigned several numbers of different types (mobile, home, work, fax, general), email addresses, a ringtone, and a web address. Indicate address, birthday, note, official name, nickname, place of work, position. There are different fields for first and last names, each offers 50 characters, that’s enough.

Calls

The dialing menu can be accessed from the phone book or from the desktop. The numbers are large and clearly visible. The phone cannot automatically select suitable numbers. Speed dialing starts.

Simplified call list. One column contains calls of different types: missed, dialed, incoming. They are highlighted with multi-colored icons for clarity. By selecting a number, you can send a message to it, make a call, add it to the phone book, or delete it. The total duration of calls is displayed. Among the additional options, it is worth noting the conversation recording function.

Messages and mail

Received messages are displayed in a vertical list. From here, unnecessary SMS are deleted, correspondence is combined into dialogues by default. Data is archived and messages saved on the SIM card are also opened. The number is added to your contacts list and you can call it. When typing, select a contact from the general list or enter a number manually. A picture, video, voice note, contact, or calendar entry is added to the message.

The phone has two types of keyboards. One offers a QWERTY layout, the second a variation of the standard layout with several characters on one button. The dialing speed is sufficient, the phone does not lag or slow down. The only complaint may be related to the not very large screen diagonal.

The mail client is configured using a simple wizard that prompts you to select one of the popular servers. At the top there are icons for displaying a menu of additional functions, as well as for creating a new letter. Messages are displayed in a vertical list indicating the sender's name, the subject of the message, the date of receipt and the presence of an attachment in the text.

At the bottom there is a line with several icons: receive mail, view the folder structure, find a contact to send a letter, work with accounts. I don’t think that the device will be used for active correspondence, but the application is well designed, you can always stay up to date with events, read letters and, if you wish, nothing will interfere with answering them.

Camera

A phone with a simple 3.2 MP camera with fixed focus. The interface is adapted for landscape and portrait mode. At the top left is the settings menu, the gallery opens at the bottom, then there is a key for shooting, a button to exit the menu and an icon for switching between photo and video shooting.

Camera settings:

Shooting mode: normal, series, timer.

Effects: normal, sepia, grayscale, negative.

Lighting: auto, daylight, incandescent, fluorescent lighting.

Photo size: 3.2M (2048x1536) 2M (1600x1200) 1M (1280x960), 0.3M (640x480 pixels).

The method for creating names for pictures is set, sounds are turned off during shooting, screen orientation is turned on, and digital zoom works.

The camera is simple, so the photo quality is of the appropriate level. The phone takes better pictures than the Nokia Asha 305/306, but it doesn’t pretend to be a camera.

Music

The player has a mixed playback mode, a repeat function and an equalizer, where there are only ready-made modes: normal, pop music, rock, jazz, classical. Playlists are created directly on the phone.

The album cover is displayed on the screen, indicating the track name and artist. A line is displayed indicating the duration of the song, as well as the control key. Below are settings for sorting data: current song, library: all tracks, artists, albums, genres, videos. There are also playlists here: my lists, recently added, recently played, frequently listened to.

The phone adjusts the sound when the screen is locked using dedicated keys. It's a pity, but there is no widget for managing music on the lock screen; you need to perform an additional action to go to the player menu.

The player is loud, there is enough sound reserve for various conditions. I like the sound of Nokia, the inexpensive phone performs just as well as its predecessors. Music is reproduced clearly, without distortion. If you have good headphones, then your phone may well become an alternative to an inexpensive player.

Radio

RDS is supported; up to 20 stations can be stored in the phone's memory, which can be recorded in the device's memory, either using automatic search or entering them manually. During the broadcast, the program is recorded and stored in memory. You can also listen to Internet radio using a separate application.

Gallery

Pictures are shown in both landscape and portrait mode. A 3x5 or 5x3 grid of thumbnails is displayed on the screen, depending on the position of the device. You can select multiple images and share them in a variety of ways: via message, email, Bluetooth, or upload to social media.

In the general gallery, there is a section with videos and an item with pictures taken using the phone camera. Watching video is, of course, possible, but the quality in this case will be very modest, given the screen resolution. The phone can play unconverted video in AVI format, and you can watch videos if you wish.

The phone works well with pictures, everything scrolls through quickly and without twitching. You can scale pictures, zoom them in using two fingers, enlarging them if necessary. There is a function to delete unnecessary files.

Organizer

Calendar

The start day of the week is set, you can go to the desired date, highlight today's date by looking at the events assigned to it. New events saved in the phone memory can be of several types: reminder, meeting, call, birthday, anniversary, memo. The repetition period is set: every day, every week, every month, every year. An alert signal is set.

Alarm

Here you need to set the time when you want the alarm to go off. The trigger days are set and the signal is set. Any signal from the device memory or from a memory card is selected. In addition, the radio also turns on, but for this you need to connect headphones to the phone. There is only one alarm clock, you cannot create several.

The phone has a fairly simple built-in application for communicating on social networks - Twitter and Facebook. You can read the message feed, write something new, or view replies.

The calculator will help you perform arithmetic operations.

The weather forecast is displayed.

There is a voice recorder that can create recordings up to one hour long, saving data both to the phone's memory and to removable media.

The timer starts.

The consumed traffic is displayed.

Built-in RSS reader.

Nokia Store

A store of various programs, games and other media and entertainment content. A clear and simple interface allows you to create a new account or log into an existing one, and view the list of installed applications. In addition, the most purchased applications are displayed in a separate list, which can help with the choice. Free software is also enough; a user can install 50 games on his phone, which for others will be paid, and he will receive them as a bonus when purchasing a device.

Profiles

The phone has four customizable profiles, in each of which you can set a call melody, its volume, and a message tone. Conveniently, at the appointed time, the selected profile can be turned off automatically; you just need to set the deadline.

Browser

The built-in browser is capable of opening even large resources; it all depends on traffic consumption. Given the small screen size, the device is unlikely to be suitable for regular network surfing, but it will help you watch the news or find some information.

The pages adapt to the screen size, scaling works, but the response speed is not very fast. You can create bookmarks, set the default access point, change the font size, there are a lot of settings.

Cards

You can use navigation on your smartphone, but the maps are not stored in memory, but are loaded as needed. This is how Google Maps or navigation from Yandex work. However, in our case, saving the cache for working without a network connection will not work.

In addition to finding your current location, you can use the route planning function. Scaling works using multi-touch or individual buttons. The phone will find the right place, show the route for the pedestrian, marking important places on the map along the way, for example, where you need to turn.

Communications

The phone operates on GSM 850/900/1800/1900 WCDMA 850/900/1700/1900/2100 networks. Bluetooth 2.1 supports the A2DP profile, so you can use wireless headphones when paired with your phone. There is no cable included, so if you want to connect to a PC via microUSB, you will have to purchase one. The phone can be recharged while connected to the PC. Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n works, no problems were noticed. You can set up VoIP Internet telephony, for example, Sipnet.

File Manager

The phone has 120 MB of its own memory. The phone worked fine with 8 and 16 GB cards. The file browser helps you move and copy various files between the phone and card memory, create folders and rename them. It can sort data by name, date, format and size.

Opening hours

Official data says that the phone is capable of up to 744 hours of standby time and up to 14 hours of talk time. Battery capacity – 1110 mAh. Usually the phone lasts for 1.5-3 days, depending on the load. With 20 minutes of calls, 10 photos, two hours of player per day, it turns out to be from 2.5 to 3 days of work. If there is a lot of mobile Internet and navigation, then you can discharge the phone in a day.

Impressions

The phone's ringtone is perfectly audible, it has a loud speaker and a good vibration alert. The model can be bought on average for 4500-5000 rubles.

In my opinion, the model turned out to be definitely more interesting than the Nokia Asha 305 and Asha 306.

The phone costs the right amount of money for its qualities, it is pleasant to use, equipped with everything you need and works well. The only thing I was missing was multitasking, it would be nice to be able to minimize the browser or game. But there is no such functionality here, although a radio or player can work in the background.

There are enough affordable touchscreen phones on the market; choosing a model for this amount, that is, about 5 thousand rubles, is not a problem. You can look at “simple” devices, you can choose among smartphones - there are a lot of inexpensive Android devices on offer. But if you want to choose a phone for yourself, when you don’t like Google’s mobile platform for some reason, then the Nokia Asha 311 will be a good choice.
