In Outlook, the recipient of a message can choose not to receive read receipts. There are other scenarios in which read receipts are not sent, such as if the recipient's email program does not support read receipts. There is no way to force the recipient to send a read receipt.

Please note that this format is case and space sensitive!

Now anyone who fills out this form will receive a confirmation of adding a record to the entered e-mail, which will also indicate the name and status of the added task.


As is the case with many other email services, Gmail does not have a feature to notify the sender about the status of their emails.

That is, you will not be able to know whether the recipient has read your letter. But this feature can be easily implemented by installing an add-on for Gmail called MailTrack.

This is a Gmail add-on for Chrome that lets you know if the emails you sent were successfully delivered and read by the recipient. To start using this add-on, just download it and install it in your Chrome browser, then log into your Gmail email account.


The MailTrack for Gmail add-on for notification that the recipient has read an email has the following advantages:

There are types of earnings in which it is important to respond quickly to letters. And for a quick response, they need to be received quickly, preferably automatically. On online mail services, this can be done in different ways, one of which will be described in this instruction.

You can receive mail in two ways - through email programs installed on your computer and through online services. Automatic receipt of mail in mail programs, the most common of which are The Bat and Thunderbird, is easy to set up - you just need to set the time interval for accessing the mail server: the program itself will check the mailbox and notify you of the arrival of new letters.

But when working with online mail services, this possibility is not always available, and walking or switching to the mail site every 5-10 minutes will “get” anyone. Fortunately, large email services can solve this problem.

One solution is to connect an online email service to your computer's email program. Google Mail and Yandex mail provide settings, using which a trained person can configure their program to receive mail from these services.
Such a combination is the best solution, but not everyone has the capabilities of systems engineers, and not every computer has email programs installed: many use online services and do not need the hassle of installing and configuring programs.

The next method offered by Google Mail is very simple and convenient - a message about a new letter will appear in the tray (the top of the desktop near the clock icon). If you use this email service, then it makes sense to make a few clicks to make the necessary settings.

How to find out about new GMail emails

It is for these email services that various add-ons have been developed these days that allow you to monitor updates in your e-mail boxes directly from your browser and not miss a single fresh letter.

Notifications about new messages in Yandex.Mail

To receive notifications in your browser about new messages in your email inbox, the Yandex.Mail service has developed a convenient solution - the “Yandex.Mail” button (element.yandex.ru/mail/) from the “Yandex Elements” set. This button is available for all the most commonly used browsers: Yandex, Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Internet Explorer.

Installing this button allows you to receive not only instant notifications about new letters in your mailbox, but also immediately start working with received letters: read, write a reply, send to spam, delete. It supports working simultaneously with several mail accounts, which you can switch between as needed.

Notifications of new messages in Gmail

The Gmail service from Google is one of the leaders among email services. To receive browser notifications about new messages in your mailboxes from this service, you can choose the third-party Gmail Notifier add-on, available for Yandex, Google Chrome, Firefox and Opera browsers, or the Google Mail Checker add-on, developed directly by Google and available for the Google Chrome browser or other browsers based on the Chromium engine, for example, for Yandex Browser.

Gmail Notifier is an open-source project. This add-on allows you to receive instant notifications about new messages in one or more (up to 5) Gmail mailboxes, and it is possible to receive notifications about new messages only with certain tags, for example, messages marked as important. You can read a received email, delete it, send it to spam or archive it directly in Gmail Notifier.

The work of the add-on can be flexibly configured. For example, you can set the frequency of checking mail at your discretion (from 10 seconds or more), set up a reminder about unread letters, etc. to your liking. It is noteworthy that notifications about new letters using Gmail Notifier can be received, if necessary, even right at work table.

Google Mail Checker

This browser add-on was developed by Google. It has much less functionality than the previous one. Using Google Mail Checker, you can only find out that a new letter has arrived and see how many unread messages are in your Gmail mailbox. However, there is no option to customize the add-on.

Notifications about new letters in Mail.ru

For the Mail.ru mail service, the recommended solution for receiving notifications about new letters in the browser is the Mail.Ru Group's own development - the Web Agent web tool (webagent.mail.ru). This, of course, is not an add-on for browsers in the usual form, but still, with the help of “Web Agent” you can instantly receive notifications about new letters in your Mail.ru mailbox.

The Web Agent web tool from Mail.ru does not require installation. You just need to launch it, and as long as you are logged in to your mailbox, you can quickly receive notifications of all incoming letters.

Additionally, the tool provides functionality for sending SMS, making voice and video calls, and online chat. The tool is compatible with all browsers.

Notifications about new letters in Rambler-Mail

The mail service from the Rambler portal (rambler.ru) called Rambler-Mail is somewhat less popular than such “giants” as Gmail and Yandex.Mail, but still the number of its users is very large. That’s why special add-ons and browser tools have been developed for mailboxes on this service, allowing you to quickly receive notifications about fresh emails.

Rambler-Assistant

Rambler Assistant is a comprehensive solution, which is a toolbar for Firefox, Internet Explorer, Chrome and Rambler Browser browsers with the best Rambler services. Checking for updates in your mailbox in this case is only one of the functions available for use.

An addition that is a convenient compact button. The functionality of the add-on is very simple: it allows you to receive instant notifications about new emails and view a list of new emails. Clicking on the header of the received letter takes you to the user's mail account page in Rambler-Mail. The add-on is available for different browsers: Opera, Google Chrome, Yandex Browser.

Working with Gmail¶

If you usually use the Gmail mail service, but also have an account in the @nsu.ru domain, with a simple setup you will be able to use @nsu.ru mail through the Gmail interface.

To do this, you need to configure your @gmail.com mailbox so that:

  • it received messages sent to your address @nsu.ru (instructions are given below - and here you need to put a link to the corresponding section)
  • from it it was possible to send letters on behalf of the address @nsu.ru (instructions are given below - and here you need to put a link to the corresponding section)

Importing mail from @nsu.ru account¶

To import mail from your @nsu.ru account into Gmail, follow the instructions below:

In settings, open the “Accounts and Import” tab. In the section Check mail from other accounts (using POP3) click on the link Add your POP3 email account:

Enter the full email address of the other account and click “Next”:

Enter your password for your @nsu.ru account.

  • Save copies of received messages on the server– check the box. Otherwise, your messages in the other account will be deleted, and you will only be able to view them in Gmail.
  • Always use a secure connection (SSL) when receiving emails- do not install, since the mail.nsu.ru mail server does not support this function.
  • Assign a label to incoming emails– check this box to easily identify messages received from this account.
  • Archive incoming emails– do not install. Set this only if you don't want messages from another account to end up in your inbox.

Click on the “Add account” button:

When the account is added, you will be asked to enable sending emails from this address. This feature allows you to specify the address of the added account in the sender field when creating an email in Gmail.

Gmail will periodically check the mail in the second account. You can find out when the last mail check was performed in the second account in the “Accounts and Import” tab.

Setting up sending mail on behalf of another account¶

To be able to send letters from your @nsu.ru account using the Gmail mail service, follow the instructions:

Log into your account at mail.google.com and go to “Settings” by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right corner:

In settings, open the “Accounts and Import” tab. In the “Send emails as” section, click on the “Add your other email address” link:

In the window that appears, enter your name and address in the “Email Address” field and click “Next”:

Enter the SMTP server name (mail.nsu.ru), your mailbox @nsu.ru and its password, and click on the “Add account” button:

Log in to your @nsu.ru account and click on the link in the letter from Gmail. In the window that opens, click on the “Confirm” button:

Sending mail after setup¶

To select a different address, click the “From” link in the new message window. If you're writing a reply or forwarding a message, tap the field that lists the recipients, then select "From." Select your desired email address from the drop-down menu.

But this works if a mail program is configured on the local computer to read correspondence. If you use a web interface, then the procedure for checking new letters comes down to visiting the site, passing authorization, etc.

Internet pager Mail.Ru Agent (http://agent.mail.ru/), in addition to being a convenient tool for exchanging messages, also provides the ability to instantly find out about the receipt of correspondence in a Mail.Ru mailbox. Immediately after receiving a letter, a message with its subject and recipient’s name is displayed in the system tray (Fig. 5.7):

Next, you should go to your email program or go to a website to read the message. Other email services, for example Yandex.Mail (http://mail.yandex.ru/), also provide a similar service. The Ya.Online program (http://online.yandex.ru/) will report the receipt of letters to your Yandex mail account.

You are sending an email to your colleague. A day or two passes, but there is no answer. Only after the call is it possible to find out that he did not receive the letter at all due to a failure on the corporate server. Two days lost.

How can you always know whether your recipient received the message? To do this, when composing a letter, it is enough to request a read receipt (Fig. 5.8):

If he clicks on the “Yes” button, a letter will be automatically generated informing him that the letter has been delivered (Fig. 5.10):

Please note that this entire procedure is called a read receipt, not a delivery receipt. If, for example, you sent a letter to the addressee, it successfully arrived in his mailbox, but the addressee has not yet entered it and opened this very letter, the notification will not be sent. It will also not be sent if you select the "No" button in the dialog box. Delivery notification - the so-called "Autoresponder" function, is available on many email services. But it does not make much sense, since the delivered message may not be read due, for example, to blocking the antispam filter.

If you have to work with numerous correspondence, and all the letters are quite important, then it is better to enable a notification request for all sent messages in the mail settings (Fig. 5.11):

Notification processing is also set here. By default, the same dialog box will appear. Selecting the "Always send read receipts" option will automatically send a response for all notification emails. This is undesirable, because in this case spam robots will be happy to know that your e-mail is working.

If you can respond to the letter promptly - literally within a few minutes, then there is no need to send a read receipt. It's better to write an answer right away.
