Removing unnecessary audio tracks from DVD files. How to remove audio track from AVI video file

If earlier editing even a short video took a lot of time and required a certain skill, then modern means working with video files allows you to do anything with them without having to special knowledge. As a result, any user can create their own film, video instruction or presentation, independently completing all stages from filming to presentation to the public.

But, despite the apparent simplicity, some actions still raise questions. For example, many users ask how to remove sound from a video.

This kind of operation will be useful to you if you want to add music to a video sequence or, for example, voice a video by first deleting the original track.

Below are several programs that will help you cut sound from a video. Can be found online service s that offer similar functionality, however they only work with small files, so it is much more convenient to use multimedia editors.

Windows Movie Studio

Previously, on computers there was Windows program Movie Maker, in which everyone tried to create something. However, in modern Windows versions(starting with Windows 7) it doesn't exist. Movie Maker has been replaced by a program Windows Movie Studio, which, however, requires additional installation from the Microsoft website.

Windows Movie Studio can work with all popular video formats.

You will quickly figure out installing the editor: there is nothing unusual in this process. Let's take a closer look at deleting an audio track:

The audio track has been removed - now you can connect a microphone to your computer and add your own voiceover. A little difficult for the first time, but once you get the hang of it, you'll be deleting audio tracks in a matter of moments.

SUPER© converter

If working with Windows Movie Studio seems too confusing to you, then try installing SUPER© Converter on your computer. This free utility For conversion, it also supports all popular video formats, so you can edit your video without any problems:

SUPER© converter is one of the simplest and convenient tools to remove sound. But if you don't like that its interface is presented on English language, try using another program called VideoMASTER

VideoMASTER

This is a powerful Russian-language editor that offers many possibilities - from regular conversion to burning to DVDs or settings for posting a video on the Internet. Unfortunately, VideoMASTER is paid program, but you can use it for free for 10 days, so you have time to remove the sound from the video:

As a result of performing the steps described above, the program will erase soundtrack from a video file, saving the new video on your hard drive.

Conclusion

The programs described above are only a small part of the video editors that allow you to remove sound from videos and perform other similar actions.

The VideoMASTER, SUPER© and Windows Movie Studio applications were chosen because they support most formats, but there are other, more specialized utilities.

An example is AVI programs Trimmer + MKV 2.1 and YAMB. They work with a limited number of formats (AVI. MKV. MP4, TS, MOV), but they also perfectly perform their tasks. Therefore the choice specific editor– it’s up to each user.

Why VideoSTUDIO?

"Studio" is a complete set of tools for editing photos and videos, as well as for recording videos. The most convenient way to adjust the video volume level is in the VideoMASTER application integrated into the Studio. It allows you to cut, add music, convert videos, change the video format, as well as add graphic captions, titles, effects and work with image brightness. Another advantage is the clear Russian-language interface.

Installing and launching the editor

After installing and launching the application, the main window appears with many panels and menus. On the right side of the screen there is a preview window, and on the left there is a group of icons for working with video (adding, trimming, joining, adding effects). At the bottom of the screen there is a menu with templates and a list of formats supported for conversion. You can also specify the folder to save the new file here.

Adding a video file

In order to add a video, you must click on the marked element in the left top corner window. A list of sources will appear from which you need to select the option that suits you best. There is a choice separate file, the entire folder from a computer or DVD, or you can download a video file directly from the network.

Cutting sounds

When the video appears in the main application window, turning off the sound in it will not be difficult. You need to left-click on the speaker icon to display a list of sound removal (track editing) tools. Cutting audio is very simple - activate the “Remove audio from video” function by clicking on the line in the pop-up window.

Often, when downloading foreign films, you can find several audio tracks in them with translations into different languages, as well as with authentic sound. It even happens that for one film there are several versions of translation into Russian.

Not all household DVD players have a function for switching paths, and when recording a movie with several “built-in” audio paths onto a disc, there is a need to leave only one, removing all the indecent ones. Let's look at the procedure in such a situation.

You will need

  • VirtualDubMod program

Instructions

1. Before everyone else, you need to stock up on tools. To do this, go to the website www.virtualdubmod.sourceforge.net and download the VirtualDubMod program to your computer, which can be used to remove indecent sound paths from a video file. The program is completely free and quite easy to use.

2. The program does not require installation, but after downloading it must be extracted from the archive; on the contrary, you will not be able to run it. Unzip the file by placing the program in a folder on your computer's hard drive, and then run it.

3. From the File menu, select the Open command and add a video file from which the obscene paths should be removed.

4. In the Vide menu, check the box next to Direct Stream Copy so as not to make metamorphoses to the video stream.

5. Open the Streams menu and select the Stream List command. Select obscene audio paths and click the Disable button. This way you will exclude these paths from the file.

6. All that remains is to write it down newest file with the changes made. To do this, select the Save as command from the File menu, specify the folder in which you want to save the result, and click OK.

7. Wait for the recording process to complete and you will receive a video recording with one audio track.

Video on the topic

Replacing the audio path or simply removing it can be done by any program that can edit video. For example, if several sound paths are embedded in a video file, while significantly increasing its size, without any problems you can “throw away” the indecent one with the help of only a few operations.

You will need

  • Video editing program Virtual Dub, MKV Toolnix or TSMuxer.

Instructions

1. Most easy program for video editing, which handles most operations is Virtual Dub or Virtual Dub Mod. It's free, small, but functional program with its own set of codecs. 2. After this, you need to go to the “Audio” – “Direct Stream Copy” and “Video” – “Direct Stream Copy” tabs, after which you can save the file (“File” – “Save Video”). The paths have been removed.

3. If the video file is in mkv format, then Virtual Dub will not always be able to cope with it. Then the MKV Toolnix package comes to the rescue, which includes the mkvmerge GUI program. It does an amazing and quick job of removing obscene paths from the selected file. After loading the file (“File” – “Open”), the program displays a list of all video parameters. After this, you can easily uncheck inappropriate items. After selecting the directory to save the target file, you must click the “Start” button.

Video on the topic

Good health to all our regular readers. While the SVINOFORCE team is resting before the decisive battle with Starforce, we decided to make a small digression and talk this time about working with video files.
Perhaps in the future in this blog (if it is not covered up by secret agents hostile to us and simply envious people) we will publish a series of articles about video editing in Pinnacle Studio, Adobe Premiere, Corel\Ulead Video Studio and the like.
As you may have guessed, SVINOFORCE, in addition to reversing and programming, are also specialists in the field of video processing. This is a team of professionals in all areas.
But today we'll talk about working with HD videos downloaded from the Internet. So, we have a lot of films in Bluray, MKV, TS, M2TS formats (the last 2 are essentially Bluray). They eat up a lot of disk space, tens of terabytes. But the SVINOFORCE team has huge disk arrays: in total we have 3 external and 18 internalhigh-speed HDDs, the total nominal volume of which is 5500 + 21440 = 26940 GB. The actual volume then is: 26940*(10^9/1024^3)=25090 GB or 24.5 Terabytes. With the new Pig Farmer's calculator, we easily made all the calculations.
But enough empty chatter and boasting. Perhaps someone will ask why such huge volumes are not enough for you that you also need to cut them out extra tracks From the movies? Well, of course, if we didn’t save space on the disks (which I must say are already full to capacity), then we would have nowhere to store images of games with Starforce. And even if you accuse us of piracy, then I can say that SVINOFORCE even if would like to buy licensed games - they are simply not on sale because... they are 5-6 years old and, I must say, with a smell. But let’s return to our question, because there are already more than enough demagogues.

We see a screenshot of the film John Carter in MKV format, and here is a list of audio tracks. It is most advisable to cut out the English track here in DTS-HD Master Audio format, for the following reasons:
1. None of us can understand English by ear.
2. The track is very heavy and takes up at least 1-2 gigabytes
3. We do not have the necessary audio equipment (an expensive receiver) to reproduce sound in DTS HD Master format (this is kind of the coolest thing that exists in nature now).
We only have cheap Chinese speakers that support digital audio AC3 (Dolby Digital) and DTS (Digital Theater Systems), which Pig Farmer snatched last year on sale at a computer store.
Let's look at the file size before our manipulations:

So we make the decision to delete. Sister, scalpel! What are we going to cut with? For this there is special program: MKVtoolnix, which includes MKVmerge:

Everything is extremely simple: uncheck the desired audio track, select the name of the output file (I will save directly to an external screw, so as not to torment magnetic heads read-write) and go have tea and cookies. The program is still working:

Half an hour later, the program reported successful completion. Let’s look at the file received after cutting:

It can be seen that we saved 5 gigabytes of disk space. Whether this is a lot or a little, everyone will decide for himself. In general, MKVs rarely need to be reassembled (or castrated, which is basically the same thing) - remixes always already contain what you need, and the garbage is cut out from them.
Another thing is the original Bluray, namely the folders with their films (we copied them from the original disc or from a torrent, it doesn’t matter). Here the situation is different.

The structure of Blu-rays is quite complex, and we don’t really know what many folders are there for. We don’t need to know that. For example, let’s choose a victim: the folder with the film The Chronicles of Narnia - Prince Caspian. The size of the folder is huge:

Inside the folder Hroniki.Narnii.Princ.Kaspian.2008.x264.B lu-Ray (1080p) there are subdirectories:
BDMV
CERTIFICATE
SLY!

We are interested in the BDMV folder, this is where media content files are stored. And everything else is obviously used to protect the Bluray disc from copying and prevent playback of a movie copied to the HDD in players such as Cyberlink PowerDVD, ArcSoft TotalMedia Theater, and so on. Inside the BDMV folder there are a bunch of other subdirectories:
AUXDATA
BACKUP
BDJO
CLIPINF
JAR
META
PLAYLIST
STREAM

There are all sorts of things here again service files for menu operation, etc. We need the STREAM folder. Go there and look for the largest file:

Bluray has such a feature that the main file with the film does not have a permanent name, but on each disc it can have any number. Here it is 00034, but it could be 00000, or 00125 for example. Looking ahead, I will say that SVINOFORCE specialists have already written a special macro program in VBA for Microsoft Excel, which allows you to find these same movie files among folders with Bluray, and all this is summarized in a table for printing.
We launch it and see that this is exactly the film itself:

Here we will cut 5 audio tracks at once, leaving only one Russian one. And at the same time we will see how this will affect the file size - it should decrease by about 1.5 times.
This time, MKVtoolnix will no longer help us, it can only save in the MKV format. Of course, it would be reasonable to do so, because Blu-ray, in addition to the movie itself, contains a lot of garbage, advertising, unnecessary bonuses - all this eats up precious disk space. Moreover ,we also made sure that after removing the audio tracks, the resulting Bluray is played in the ArcSoft TotalMedia Theater player without sound - apparently it needs to be completely rebuilt. But what can we do now, we decided to cut - so we will cut. And we will cut with the tsMuxer program:

The interface is similar to MKVmerge GUI, but the programs are completely different and they different developer sort of. We cut out unnecessary tracks, and at the same time immediately remove subtitles in all languages except English, Russian and Ukrainian (if any). Next, select again external HDD as a place for a new file, you also need to click M2TS Muxing (otherwise we’ll probably end up with a TS file instead of M2TS; to be honest, I don’t know how they differ). Let’s start the process and you can smoke for another half hour:

We are in no hurry, especially since today is Christmas Eve. At the same time, while the file is being processed, I hasten to congratulate the reversers on this holiday, although there seem to be no Orthodox Christians among our team. And in general, we are opponents of religion, but this blog is not about that.
So, while I ate 2 apples, an orange and drank a glass of cold Cola, our file was finally processed successfully. Let's look at its size:

We saved exactly 10 gigabytes and the file size was reduced by exactly 1.5 times.
The more films we cut in this way, the more space will be freed up. The main thing is not to overdo it. When we clear out the rubble with Starforce a little, and finally write at least half of the manuals, perhaps there will be an article about how to convert an audio track from DTS HD MA format to AC3, and stitch it all back into the video file.

Time will tell, but for now our team is preparing for the decisive battle and we will try not to lose face! SVINOFORCE will win because it was sent from above!

Let's say you have a video and you want to remove the sound from it, completely cut out the audio track. This can be done using various video editors, such as Sony Vegas, Movie Maker, Adobe Premier, etc. But because of this generally banal operation, is it worth installing additional software on your computer, which, by the way, is not at all free? Much simpler and more efficient in this case take advantage of online services!

In order to remove sound from a video, we will use Cloudconvert.com. This cloud service, with which you can convert anything into anything :) Although we are not going to convert anything, by and large, this online service is ideal for our needs. Why? Now I’ll tell you everything.

Go to Cloudconvert.com and click on the “Select files” button.

Select the desired video file on your computer’s hard drive. It is also possible to provide a link to it on the Internet or download it from:

  1. DropBox
  2. Google Drive
  3. OneDrive

After this, a page will open where the file name will be indicated (in my case Webinar), its format (in my case MP4), and there will be a button with an icon in the form of a wrench. We click on it.

In the window that opens AUDIO section There will be an item “Audio Codec”. In the drop-down menu, select the “none (remove audio track)” option. By doing so, we indicate that we intend to remove the audio track from the video.

If you wish, you can do additional options with the video:

  1. Convert it to another format
  2. Cut/add subtitles
At the bottom of the browser page there will be a panel where we put a checkmark next to the item “Notify me when it is finished”, and if you want to save the result in some cloud storage, then check another box.

After that, click on the “Start Conversion” button, and after a certain time (depending on the size source file) You will receive a result that you can download to your computer.

Start playing the video and make sure it is already without sound :)

You can use the Cloudconvert.com online service completely free of charge. Maximum size Video download size is 1 GB. You have a daily limit of 25 conversion units.

So, for example, converting one text file or image is equal to one unit. But in the case of video files, as far as I understand from the description, one conversion unit is equal to one minute of the time spent by the service on conversion. Maybe I'm wrong. If you know from experience how things really stand with this, write in the comments.
