Attention! This rating is subjective in nature, does not constitute an advertisement and does not serve as a purchase guide. Before purchasing, consultation with a specialist is required.

Not every PC game is best played with a keyboard and mouse. If you don't want to sit back and play some of your games with a controller, you should consider purchasing one of our favorites. But if you already have an Xbox 360, Xbox One or PlayStation 4 and are happy with the controller that comes with the console, then there is no need to purchase another one.

How we chose

A large controller should be comfortable for long periods of time, have a good grip to prevent it from slipping out of your hands even when they get sweaty, and it should be a reasonable weight. While everyone has their own preferences, your controller's button presses should be responsive and precise: they should do what you "tell" them to do. But comfort and ergonomics are not everything - the controller must also work well with the computer.

We reviewed 22 controllers from major manufacturers such as Logitech, Mad Catz, Microsoft, Nvidia, Razer, Sony, SteelSeries and Valve, as well as several other gamepads from lesser-known manufacturers. Devices with bad reviews users and those that cost much more than other controllers with similar characteristics. As a result, 11 controllers remained, which we tested with the help of five people with various sizes hands and preferences in comfort.

Our choice

The Sony DualShock 4 Wireless Controller is the most comfortable controller for average hand sizes. All of its analog sticks, buttons and triggers are easy to reach and work well, which is something that can't be said about a number of other models, including the Xbox One controller. DualShock 4 works via Bluetooth or using a MicroUSB cable. In addition, its touchpad can simulate a mouse cursor, a feature that other leaders in our rating cannot offer.

Priced at $50, the DualShock 4 can work both wired and wireless. wireless network, unlike the Xbox One controller, which requires an adapter to wireless operation on PC, making it more expensive than the DualShock 4. But the DualShock 4 requires a little effort (and DS4Windows software) to connect to Windows. Also, the controller won't work in most games on OS X and is a bit small for larger hands.

Second place and easier connection

If you want a controller that is easier to connect to Windows, but also that will work on OS X, or if you have big hands, or if you just prefer Xbox-style controllers, then you should buy an Xbox One controller bundled with wireless adapter. The biggest advantage the Xbox One has over the DualShock 4 is its ease of setup. In the operating room Windows system, drivers are automatically installed when the controller is connected. On OS X, the process is about as complicated as setting up a DualShock 4 on Windows - you need the 360Controller software.

Inexpensive and loved

If you don't want to spend more than $35 on a controller, then the wired Xbox 360 controller is your choice. Xbox controller The 360 is slightly smaller and lighter than the Xbox One controller, and it's more compact size makes accessing the buttons and analog sticks a little easier for people with small hands and short fingers.

All the buttons are well placed and easy to reach for any size hand, but this controller isn't without its flaws. It doesn't work wirelessly; Microsoft sells a wireless version, but the controller requires an adapter, which adds up to about the same price as the Xbox One wireless controller plus an adapter.

Unusual but expensive

If you play a lot of games on your PC that require a controller and don't mind spending $150, then the Xbox Elite is the best option. The Elite offers customizable controls, four additional paddles on the back, and an easier setup than the DualShock 4. This controller was a hit with all of our testers, but most people won't be able to pay the premium for it.

Steam Controller

The Steam Controller is the only controller that breaks down the difference between controller-enabled games and games that are more comfortable to play with a mouse and keyboard. It has a touchpad instead of a D-Pad and a right analog stick; these components offer haptic feedback. Its two-stage triggers and rear buttons are designed for more control and customization than is the case with traditional console controllers.

Despite this, the Steam Controller is a small gamepad. Its plastic body feels cheap and hollow; he has no convenient form with hard-to-reach buttons and controls; and since it's so different from standard game controllers, there's a long learning curve involved. Until Valve releases a better device, we can't recommend it for most people.

04.07.2016

I thought for a long time about how to start this material. I wanted to make this into some kind of catchphrase or aphorism, but I’ll say it simply: I personally think that the vast majority of video games are much more convenient to play with a mouse and keyboard than with a gamepad, or, God forbid, a joystick. However, and it is impossible to argue with this, there are a lot of games that are not only more convenient to play with a controller, but sometimes the same keyboard is simply impossible to operate properly. This is not to mention those who have been accustomed to gamepads since childhood and play absolutely any compatible game on them perfectly.

And here the problem of choice arises in full force the desired controller. After all, here, as in life: you can try a low-quality, say, tropical fruit once, and then become convinced that this fruit, in principle, cannot be tasty. It’s the same with gamepads: it’s important to start with the right, convenient, high-quality, and, if possible, inexpensive device, so as not to spoil your impressions for the rest of your life. That's what we'll talk about.

It’s worth noting right away that we’ll be talking about gamepads that are known not only in Russia, but also abroad, and if we touch on some purely Russian-Chinese samples, then only those that more or less meet quality standards. In general, if everyone understands everything, let’s start.

PlayStation DualShock 4. (3-4 thousand rubles).

DualShock 4 – high-quality, well-designed, but has problems adapting to PC games

Here is one of the most popular gamepads on planet Earth. Of course, there is a lot to love about this device. And if it were not for the high cost, then it would become a truly real, people's controller. However, it has a few more disadvantages, which will be discussed a little later. Now about the advantages.

We need to start with the fact that the DualShock 4 is very well assembled and has very high quality plastic. If you have any complaints about the assembly, then this is a Chinese craft from AliExpress. One of the main advantages of this device is the triggers and bumpers, which are popularly called simply triggers, located with reverse side, are almost ideal of their kind. Therefore, if you plan to often play racing games, where, as a rule, you need to throttle using the triggers, the DualShock 4 is perfect for you. Triggers will provide you with a much better tactile sensation. They are moderately tight and feel better than their competitor from Microsoft. The same can be said about analog sticks (joystick sticks in the center of the device). Flat, matte buttons with a virtually indelible pattern will also please your fingers. And, of course, we must add that the connection here is wireless. Whether this is a plus or a minus is up to you to decide.

Where would we be without a fly in the ointment in a barrel of jam? So, the main thing that a PC gamer may not like is their ideological affiliation with PlayStation games, so, looking at these crosses and triangles on the buttons, you will often not understand where to press. What to say if the PC version is Japanese Dark Souls 3 is designed for Xbox (at least in the tooltips), and all these circles and squares may seem inconvenient to many. As a consequence, the need to use third-party programs to adapt the device to a PC. The next thing that can be blamed on the DualShock 4 is the analog sticks that fall apart over time. Perhaps it special case, perhaps these are problems of one particular party, but on the Internet there are a lot of complaints about the failure of one of the mini-joysticks. Well, and finally, you can remember that the D-pad (in Russian - cross) does not have membranes between directions, therefore, if you are used to controlling the cross, then in the same fighting games, jumping diagonally will not be easy. You will have to clamp two directions at once. Well, as a last minus – quite high cost.

Microsoft Xbox 360. (2-3 thousand rubles).

Xbox 360 - the standard of the gaming ideal with a mediocre D-pad

The main competitor for the previous model. It must be said that while Sony is head and shoulders ahead of Microsoft, implementing the PlayStation 4 much more vigorously than the Xbox One, the absolutely overwhelming majority of PC games are adapted specifically for a gamepad like the Xbox.

For contrast, we took the wired version of the gamepad, because wireless connection– this is not an absolute plus. On the one hand, if there is no cable, you will not be able to play if the battery runs out, and also be prepared for the fact that the connection, although rarely, will be lost, and on the other hand, you are freed from the wire, which is worth a lot. The main advantage of the Xbox 360 is its versatility, since it supports 95% of all existing PC games that can support anything at all. Personally, the Xbox 360 feels better in the hand, but not everyone likes the asymmetrical arrangement of the sticks, and if you have been playing with a gamepad with a symmetrical arrangement for a long time, you will have to get used to it. The buttons are excellent, the markings on them are not erased. The triggers, although not the same as in Dualshock 4, are also okay. In addition, this controller is noticeably cheaper, so there is a reason to think about the choice.

Apart from such relative disadvantages as the presence of a wire and the asymmetrical arrangement of the sticks, the main thing that this gamepad is blamed for is the unsuccessful cross-pad. First of all, it's tight. Secondly, it has a dead move, albeit a small one, which makes it difficult to aim accurately, and in general the crosspiece cannot boast of any particular accuracy. Unfortunately, here we have to talk not about a local defect, but about a defect on a planetary scale, because people complain about the cross in both Russia and the USA.

Xbox Elite (11-14 thousand rubles)

Xbox Elite - ideal for extremely wealthy guys

For those who like the Xbox gamepad and those who can't stand the price, there is an option for wealthy guys.

With advantages, as you understand, for such and such a price here full order. The gamepad is very well assembled. It is also extremely repairable. You can replace almost every part you want in it. Naturally, it works great on 95% of all PC video games, has convenient software for reconfiguring keys, has an excellent cross-pad, completely free of the problems of its younger brother, and, most importantly, owning such a gamepad, you can just go out into the street and show off to passers-by .

WITH technical point In general, if you like the design of Xbox gamepads, the device is almost ideal. Its main disadvantage is the very high, and, frankly speaking, completely unreasonable cost. Not everyone will pay $200 when an almost complete analogue can be bought for $50.

Steam Controller. (6-8 thousand rubles).

Steam Controller is too original, and is not yet available in Russia

A completely innovative and, frankly speaking, controversial gamepad, which rightly has a difficult attitude. The main thing that can be said about it: Steam Controller is a gamepad for games that do not support gamepads or do not consider their use mandatory. In fact, in front of you is a keyboard and a laptop touchpad in miniature.

This device looks very unusual. Perhaps many will consider this a plus. Further, as already mentioned, it replaces not exactly a gamepad, but even a keyboard and mouse. Also in latest versions Steam Controller added a sane program so-called. "mapping", i.e. control reconfiguration. It’s also impossible not to mention the high-quality assembly. In general, this is a kind of innovative gadget that will appeal to the so-called “geeks” - guys who love all kinds of unusual electronics.

But the Steam Controller has much more disadvantages. Do the math for yourself. Firstly, it is not officially supplied to Russia, and it can be purchased either through the nearest European countries or through resellers. Secondly, no matter how you twist it, the original design was a consequence of the extreme inconvenience of the device. The device does not fit very well in the hand, and its ergonomics are also poor. Thirdly, the price. Speculators are furious, and the gamepad costs as much as two Dualshock 4s. And, fourthly, it takes some getting used to. As practice shows, no one can immediately play on this controller. You'll have to adapt, and if you don't like controlling the game using the touch pad on your laptop, then you probably won't like doing the same here either.

Logitech F310 Gamepad. (1.5-2 thousand rubles).

Logitech F310 - cheap, compatible, high quality, but cramped and noisy

An excellent, budget option that has a great function for switching modes from DirectInput to XInput (in Russian: from PlayStation to Xbox).

The engineers didn’t think too much, and ripped off half of the Xbox and half of the DualShock. The buttons were inherited from the first, and the position of the sticks from the second. The main advantage is almost complete compatibility with any PC games due to the ability to switch modes, which was mentioned earlier. Well, we must also not forget about the extremely low price for such a high-quality device. These two properties have made this controller extremely popular throughout the world. Also, don’t forget about buttons that won’t wear out, adequately functioning sticks with a minimal dead zone, fairly high-quality, albeit tight triggers, and a 2-year warranty from the manufacturer (usually they give a year, or even half).

The main complaint is the small size. If you have the hands of an adult man rather than a teenager, the controller will seem small and cramped to you. In addition, despite the high-quality assembly and good plastic, its buttons are quite noisy. In addition, the gamepad is wired, which for some will also be an insurmountable obstacle. Perhaps it’s also worth noting the triggers are a bit tight and the sticks are not as high quality as those of the same Xbox gamepad.

Logitech F710 Wireless. (3-4 thousand rubles).

Almost the same as the Logitech F310, but wireless

After the wired, budget, but high-quality Logitech F310, it is impossible not to mention the wireless and more expensive analogue, whose main difference, besides the presence of a wireless connection, lies in higher quality plastic and more comfortable ergonomics.

High-quality plastic, wireless connection, the presence of a DirectInput to XInput switch, as well as a more convenient shape. Its Bluetooth connection is particularly robust and stable. In addition, the Logitech F710 is more comfortable to hold than the Logitech F310. Overall, if you don't like the asymmetric nature of the sticks on the Xbox, and are willing to pay the same price, and also if you absolutely want wireless connectivity, then this gamepad is definitely for you. But, before you buy it, read the disadvantages, of which, alas, there are more.

Firstly, the Logitech F710 still has the same noisy buttons as its budget counterpart. Secondly, it became noticeably heavier. It is clear that the weight was added due to the Bluetooth module, but the problem is that the wireless gamepad from Xbox weighs noticeably less, and, according to our personal feelings, it is still more convenient to hold it in our hands. Well, the main disadvantage is the price. It costs twice as much as the Logitech F310, but it cannot be said that it is twice as good in its parameters. Well, and most importantly: if there is a wireless controller from Xbox on store shelves, which, by the way, is cheaper, you should buy the Logitech F710 only in exceptional cases, for example, in the form of loyalty to the brand or rejection of technology from Microsoft.

Mad Catz C.T.R.L.R. (4-5 thousand).

If you like to play mobile games on Android - your choice

This gamepad seems to be one of the most versatile devices in our review. This is because with its help you can play not only on PC, but also on mobile devices under Android control. In addition, it has a special panel for securing your smartphone.

There are many advantages to this technique. Immediately it should be noted the high-quality assembly and materials. Further it is worth adding that the creators of this controller made it available both for playing on PC and for playing on Android devices. This is simply a huge plus for those who like to play something on a tablet/smartphone. Key layout and overall design, as you can see, is strictly Xbox, and very similar to the Xbox Elite. By the way, the crosspiece and one of the sticks can be swapped with a little fiddling around and first finding out whether the warranty will expire after such a maneuver.

Many people note that the triggers are not the most comfortable, as well as the crosspiece without diagonal membranes. It should also be noted that the device runs on batteries. On average, normal batteries last for 40-50 hours, but if you decide to replace them with rechargeable batteries, the quality of communication may become worse, because if the battery has 1.5 volts, then the battery has 1.3, and sometimes even 1 ,2, so you need to be prepared for this. Relative disadvantages include the non-rubberized surface, as well as the high cost. Still, the device is noticeably more expensive than the same wireless Xbox controller. Well, the main drawback is the lack of XInput support until mid-2015. Therefore, if it turns out that you bought more early model, you'll have to tinker a little with the drivers.

Razer Sabertooth. (4-8 thousand)

Rare, beautiful, comfortable, but expensive and with some design problems

Let's take a little look at the gamepad of the American company Razer, which rivets only very high-quality and, as a rule, expensive equipment. Due to its relative rarity, the price of this device varies greatly, so you should not accept the first offer that comes your way.

The gamepad tries its best to look like a Microsoft gamepad. In principle, this is not bad. We list further: high-quality soft-touch plastic, extremely low travel of the front buttons, which are discussed below (in the cons), the presence of additional keys and a small display, which, in principle, is absolutely not needed.

The main disadvantage is the price. An Xbox gamepad costs at least 2 times less. It’s also worth adding that this controller is wired. For some this is a plus, so we won’t add this to the unequivocal disadvantages. Further, it should be noted that there are reports from the field about sticking D-pad keys and sticks failing. In addition, many will not like the sound of the keys being pressed (the sound is like loud mouse buttons). Well, the last thing is that it is not officially supplied to Russia, so all the service is only in the store.

Defender Game Racer Turbo. (0.8-1.5 thousand rubles)

For fun, let’s take one of the representatives of the extremely popular Defender company in Russia. Racer Turbo is a classic budget option, compatible with DirectInput, which is not very good, and which indicates that this model is a bit old. And indeed, if you look closely, Racer Turbo is also suitable for the PlayStation 2.

It’s not clear whether this can be considered an advantage, but just in case, let’s say: the design is like controllers from Sony. Even the key designations are the same. The device, as you understand from the price, is wired, but the cable length is as much as 1.5 meters - more than enough to play while looking at a regular home monitor. The body of the device is rubberized - a definite plus. Vibration feedback! At such and such a price. Well, and the most important thing is the price. If you want to give a gamepad to a child - a novice gamer, without overpaying too much, then Racer Turbo is perfect.

Lack of support for the Xbox system, which will definitely affect modern games. As practice shows, in 50% of cases Racer Turbo will either not work correctly or not work at all. But here a special program for adapting old controllers can come to your aid, which, of course, you will have to tinker with. Not a very comfortable cross that will put pressure on your thumb after just a couple of hours of gaming. Well, the long stroke of the triggers is also worth noting.

PIC 5 (Beautiful, but problematic. For those who like to take risks)

Thrustmaster T-Wireless 3. (1.5-3 thousand)

Cheap and cheerful. Of gamepads under 20$ - one of the best options

And another gamepad designed for DualShock – as for the buttons. Well, from a purely external perspective, it almost looks like an Xbox controller. Unlike its predecessor, this device, in addition to PC and PS 2, can also work on PS 3.

Firstly, the gamepad is wireless, which is quite good for the money. Secondly, it has a rubberized body, which is generally excellent. Thirdly, its surface is quite textured, so the device will hold tightly in your hands. It also comes with a separate program for reconfiguring the keys. Well, and the price, of course.

Well, here, as they say, the wallet is full. We are dealing with a budget model. So, if you have the hands of an adult, the gamepad will seem a little small. Also, as already said, it doesn't have XInput support. We also add power to the minus, which requires as many as three batteries. This is quite inconvenient, because batteries are usually sold in pairs. You will have to buy 6 pieces at once. You can also add crunchy triggers and a tight cross to the minuses. Some people complain about the sticks becoming loose, but this seems to be an individual matter, and it depends on your luck. Well, and the price. Even if you buy it for a minimum of 1.5 thousand, then for almost the same amount you can buy a Logitech F310, for which the manufacturer provides a 2-year warranty, and which is quite difficult to kill.

Speedlink Torid. (1.5-3 thousand).

Great design, own battery, but problems with compatibility, triggers and cross

Well, we’ll finish our quick review with another Chinese budget phone that really wants to be like Razer.

Of course, the rubberized side inserts, the “space” design, the Xbox style, as well as the wireless nature of this device. With this gamepad you get almost an Xbox One controller, but only for half the price. In addition, the gamepad switches perfectly from DirectInput to XInput and vice versa, although in the description on Yandex Market you will see that it is compatible with the PlayStation 3. Also, you will not need to spend money on batteries, because the controller has its own battery, and after fully charged it will last for about 10 hours. It will charge again to 100% in about 30-40 minutes, which, although not a record, is also quite good.

Say what you like, but in front of you, even though it’s branded, it’s Chinese. But what, what, but China’s own gamepads, unlike the same smartphones, are not made very well. We list: poor compatibility with games designed for Xbox. In particular, this is expressed in failure or incorrect operation of the triggers. By the way, the same triggers have a rather long idle speed, which not everyone will like. Further, what is even worse, is not a very high-quality connection, which, no, no, and will be lost, which is completely out of the question. You can also note that the cross is not the most convenient. Well, to top it off, you can add sticks that become loose over time, because of which your sight or camera will shake and you will have to constantly calibrate them, or disassemble them and invent something.

Summary.

Summing up the relative summary of our material about the two parts, I will not say anything original. This is exactly the case when you can’t make good fish soup from cheap fish. Do you rarely play, or are you preparing a gift for some slow-witted child? Then feel free to take something from the Defender line. Don't like heavy gamepads, are you afraid of losing connection with the gameplay, and don't want to bother with recharging and batteries? Take only a wired gamepad. Do you want to play while lying on the couch and looking at a 40-inch monitor from 5 meters away? Get a wireless one. Don’t want to overpay and are looking for maximum compatibility and quality at an affordable price? Then the Logitech F310 is for you, but get ready to get used to the small size of the gamepad. Well, in our opinion, the most universal option is the Microsoft Xbox 360: beautiful, convenient, high quality and at the same time 100% compatible.
That's all. Good luck with your choice.

: few buttons, possibility fine tuning missing, macros cannot be recorded. Is this really true, or is it worth giving the gamepad a chance? Let's try to answer this question.

Gamepad games

A lot of arguments can be made in defense of each type of manipulator - keyboard with mouse and gamepad. Thus, the mouse provides better aiming accuracy and allows you to instantly move virtual camera on long distances, and the keyboard allows you to use more keys and activate bundles of commands with the press of a single button.

In turn, the gamepad makes control smoother: depending on the degree of deflection of the sticks, the character can slowly walk or run, and the force of pressing the triggers affects the speed of the car. In many games with gamepad support, you can enable auto-aim - contrary to popular belief, it does not aim instead of the player, but only slightly adjusts the aim aimed at the enemy. Don’t forget about feedback – vibration feedback, which enhances the gaming experience.

This leads us to the conclusion that for different types manipulators are suitable for different genres of video games. You can’t do without a keyboard and mouse in first-person shooters, strategies, MOBAs, CCGs, MMORPGs, and computer RPGs. The gamepad is ideal for third-person action games, action RPG, sports simulators, fighting games, racing, and is also acceptable for many multi-platform first-person shooters - for example, Destiny 2, games in the Call of Duty and Battlefield series, where with proper skill you can even learn to beat opponents with keyboard and mouse.

Actually, answering the question of whether a gamepad is needed for a PC at all, we confidently declare that it is undoubtedly needed. But not for everyone: if you prefer genres in which you can get by with the usual PC combination of K&M, then the gamepad will gather dust somewhere in a distant drawer. If you like games of various genres, then a gamepad will make the gameplay of many of them more comfortable. In addition, the presence of an additional controller will be useful to fans of cooperative projects that can be played on one computer. And finally, if you wish, you can configure the output of images from your computer to TV and play with a wireless gamepad in front of big screen, sitting comfortably on the sofa (this can also be done with wireless keyboard and mouse, but the comfort level will be significantly lower).

In conclusion, I would like to note that pointless debates about the superiority of one type of controller over another are not worth wasting time. Based on the above text, it becomes obvious that the gamepad and keyboard with mouse are very different, and are suitable for completely different genres of games. A sane gamer will simply play with the controller that is more convenient for him, and will not pay attention to any prejudices.

How much does a gamepad cost and how to choose the best model

You can find many gamepads from different manufacturers in stores. gaming peripherals. The choice is presented for every taste: an inexperienced buyer’s eyes will run wild from the variety of designs, colors and unique functions. So which one is better to choose so as not to regret the purchase? We will give some tips and recommendations best models gamepads.

  • First of all, when choosing a controller, you should pay attention to the presence of support for the XInput input standard: if the gamepad supports this standard, it means that it will work adequately in 99% of games. If the manipulator is equipped only with DInput support, it means that in some games it will either work incorrectly or not be detected at all. In this case, emulators like x360ce or Xpadder will come to the rescue. Ideally, a gamepad should support both standards, but if you have a choice between XInput and DInput, don’t hesitate to choose the first.
  • Next comes the issue of compatibility: a gamepad can work on a PC, but not be detected by the console, and vice versa. Compatibility with a particular platform is usually indicated in the product description; in addition, with the help of drivers, you can make the console controller work on a PC. But if you have more than one gaming platform, and you plan to use the gamepad not only with a computer, then it is better to find out about compatibility in advance.
  • A wired or wireless gamepad is a matter of taste and personal comfort: choosing the first option negatively affects mobility, the second will force you to spend money on batteries or constantly charge the battery. Please note that when purchasing a wireless controller, you will also need an adapter to connect it to your PC.
  • The presence of vibration is better than no vibration: vibration feedback will help you immerse yourself deeper into the gameplay. This is most relevant for Microsoft Xbox gamepads One Controller: they feature vibration feedback from the triggers, which literally allows you to feel every shot. If you get tired of vibration, you can always turn it off in the game settings.
  • Number of buttons/sticks – it’s better to stick to the golden mean. Standard – two sticks (also working as buttons), a cross, “Start” and “Menu” buttons, “ABXY” buttons, two triggers, two bumpers. Fewer buttons are undesirable; more buttons are unlikely to be needed.
  • Appearance/design is a matter of taste. But it’s better not to chase fancy designs, which may be less comfortable than a simpler design, but more ergonomic model.

So which gamepad should you buy? Here is a list of the best models:

Microsoft Xbox 360 Controller for Windows

Proven over the years and probably the best gamepad for PC (and Xbox 360). It fits comfortably in your hands, does not creak, is correctly detected by the operating system and is perfectly recognized in all games, the wireless version works for up to several months without replacing batteries. The only complaint I can make is that the cross is not the most comfortable.

Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Controller

Gamepad from the new generation of Microsoft console. It differs from the previous one in improved ergonomics, vibration feedback of triggers, a more comfortable cross, and, of course, design. But it also costs more. If price is not an issue for you, we can recommend

Microsoft Xbox One Wireless Controller Elite is a truly elite controller made from high-quality materials.

Sony Dualshock 4

A very convenient gamepad from the Sony PlayStation 4 console. High-quality build, Beautiful design, nice movement of the sticks, long time work without recharging. It is worth considering that to connect to a PC you will need to “dance with a tambourine”.

Logitech F310/F710

A controller whose main advantage is its support for the XInput and DInput standards (switching between them is carried out using a lever). Available in two versions: wired F310 (without vibration) and wireless F710 (with vibration feedback). Model F510 (wired and vibration) has been discontinued.

Valve Steam Controller

A gamepad developed by Valve specifically for PC, taking into account the features of games for this platform. Engineers placed two touch surfaces on the controller, with which you can simulate cursor movements, which made possible use manipulator even in strategies.

In addition, the gamepad allows you to flexibly customize the button layout according to the user's wishes, and the built-in gyroscope and accelerometer allow you to control some games using movements.

OXION OGP06

This option is suitable if you want to save as much as possible. Actually, the low price combined with XInput support is its main advantage. Otherwise, the gamepad is not up to par with more expensive models in terms of quality.

Every year more and more video games are released that are essentially aimed at game consoles (gamepads). Many gamers, contrary to their habits, continue to use a keyboard and mouse for these games, but there are also those who use them for more comfortable game gamepad. In fact, such people only have an advantage, since using a gamepad has several positive points. Firstly, you can play various games in any position convenient for you, being completely relaxed and being at a significant distance from the monitor. Secondly, the convenient location of the buttons allows you to quickly and accurately perform various manipulations in games.

Despite the fact that a gamepad at first glance seems like a simple and uncomplicated device, it’s easy to just go and buy the first option you come across. wrong action. In order for this purchase to be fully justified, you need to have a little understanding of this type of device.

There may be several criteria when choosing a gamepad; for example, gamepads differ primarily in their versatility (the ability to be used in different OS systems). Secondly, there are wireless and wired gamepads. Thirdly, gamepads differ in the number of buttons and sticks. Fourthly, there are models with vibration feedback, and some without. Some models are made of glossy plastic, others are made of matte, and others have rubberized inserts.

As you can see, there are quite a lot of criteria for choosing this type of device. Let's look at each in more detail.

Gamepad versatility

When buying a gamepad, many expect the device to be compatible with many PCs, and also to be universal. That is, they expect to use a gamepad both on a PC and, for example, in the future on any other game console.

In this case, the main thing is to pay attention to the device’s compatibility with various operating systems, and also check support with game consoles (Sony PlayStation or Xbox series). There are models that have more than one USB connector, but have special plugs for the corresponding connectors of set-top boxes.

Xinput support

Continuing the topic of compatibility, I want to focus on such a criterion when choosing a gamepad as Xinpu support. Buying more budget options, support for this function is of course not provided; in this case, the standard is Directinput.

What is the Xinput function actually responsible for and what is its special feature?

Some versions of gamepads do not support Xinput and this standard replaces – Directinput. Therefore, when playing this or that game on a PC, problems arise with the manipulator (the buttons do not correspond, it is impossible to customize the device for yourself). Roughly speaking, the gamepad is not compatible with the game. In this case, there is a solution, which consists in the need to additionally download the simulator for this standard. This simulator must be installed on your PC and launched before each game.

For those who don’t want to do this, tinker and configure everything additionally, I advise you to initially pay attention to whether the gamepad has Xinput support when purchasing. This gamepad is “correct” and many modern games already support this standard, so any additional customization in games it will no longer be needed or will remain minimal.

Wired or wireless

This characteristic is more individual; for some, the extra cable communication is a hindrance, while for others, the extra weight of a wireless device does not bring pleasure during long-term use.

With a good gamepad, the gameplay will be comfortable and fun. But the price range when choosing one model or another varies by several thousand rubles. But what should you choose if you already have a specific amount of money on hand?

For those who choose a budget model whose amount does not exceed 1200 rubles, several color options are available. But the gamepads will be designed for PC use only. These devices are all wired, there are models with and without analog sticks. Most of them are provided with a vibration feedback function. The body of the devices is mainly made of glossy plastic; in rare cases, you can find gamepads with rubberized inserts.

For an amount from 1200 to 3000 rubles, you can already choose for yourself wireless model gamepad. There are also wired models in this price range. There are devices that are compatible with gaming series PlayStation consoles and Xbox 360, as well as with Android devices. Each device has two analog sticks and every second one has a vibration feedback function.

Over 3000 are mostly “branded” gamepads, which are equipped with everything necessary for a comfortable game. There are models that come with games included. additional receiver or removable accumulator battery.

There are also more expensive “elite” models of gamepads, which are special in that they come with additional analog sticks, spare crosspieces, replaceable handles and a case for carrying all the components. Such models are made of high quality, look expensive, and playing with them is a pleasure.

Expensive gamepads differ from budget ones mainly in the case material and the availability of additional spare parts. Only avid gamers and fans should choose such a device. After all, if you are a beginner, then there is a possibility that the desire to play with a gamepad may soon disappear, and no one will compensate you for the considerable amount of money you spent. And all that will remain is for your “elite” and expensive model of gamepad to be covered with a layer of dust on the far shelf in the closet. Therefore, my advice is to make your choice wisely and do not rush into purchasing with a substantial amount of money in your pocket.

That's all for me, thanks for your attention! Happy shopping everyone!
