How to change your default search engine. How to restore the default search engine

The Opera web browser is today one of the most popular and in-demand browsers among users, surpassing many similar programs. It’s not surprising, since this browser was the first of all to have a built-in VPN client, and has a very high speed of accessing Internet resources and downloading content of any type while saving information on the computer’s hard drive.

However, many users are unhappy that the browser offers its own search tools by default. That is why people are trying to change this search engine by installing another one instead. But not everyone knows how to change the search engine in Opera. Let's try to sort this issue out.

Preface

But first, let's dwell on the question: is it worth changing the default search engine? On the one hand, immediately after installing the browser as a program on your computer, upon first launch, it is easy to notice that by default the bookmarks bar is activated, on which, among other things, there is a Rambler resource tile, by clicking on which you can immediately go to the site and use its search engine system.

On the other hand, changing the search service from Yandex to something else is advisable mainly in cases where the services of this Russian company are blocked in the country from which the request is made. But even here you can bypass such restrictions by activating the built-in VPN client.

Now all modern browsers support entering search queries from the address bar. At the same time, most web browsers allow you to independently select the desired “search engine” from the list of available ones.

Google is the most popular search engine in the world, but not all browsers use it as their default query handler.

If you always want to use Google when searching in your web browser, then this article is for you. We will tell you how to install the “Good Corporation” search platform in each of the currently popular browsers that provide this feature.

We will start, of course, with the most common web browser today - Google Chrome. In general, as a product of a well-known Internet giant, this browser already contains Google search installed by default. But it happens that after installing some software, another “search engine” takes its place.

In this case, you will have to correct the situation yourself.

That's all. After these simple steps, when searching in the address bar (omnibox) of Chrome, Google search results will again be displayed.

Mozilla Firefox

At the time of writing browser from Mozilla by default uses Yandex search. At least the version of the program for the Russian-speaking segment of users. Therefore, if you want to use Google instead, you will have to correct the situation yourself.

This can be done, again, in just a couple of clicks.

It is done. Now a quick search on Google is possible not only through the address dialing bar, but also through a separate search bar, which is located to the right and marked accordingly.

Opera

Initially Opera just like Chrome, it uses Google search. By the way, this web browser is completely based on the open project of the Good Corporation - Chromium.

If, nevertheless, the default search has been changed and you want to return Google to this “post”, here, as they say, everything is from the same opera.

In fact, the process of setting the default search engine in Opera is almost no different from those described above.

Microsoft Edge

But here everything is a little different. Firstly, in order for Google to appear in the list of available search engines, you must use the site at least once google.ru through Edge browser. Secondly, the corresponding setting is “hidden” quite far away and it can be somewhat difficult to find it right away.

The process for changing the default search engine in Microsoft Edge is as follows.

Again, if you haven't used Google Search in MS Edge before, you won't see it in this list.

Internet Explorer

Well, where would we be without the “everyone’s favorite” web browser IE. Quick search in the address bar began to be supported in the eighth version of Donkey. However, the process of setting the default search engine was constantly changing with the change of numbers in the name of the web browser.

We will look at installing Google search as the main one using the latest version of Internet Explorer - eleventh as an example.

Compared to previous browsers, things are even more confusing here.

That's all. In principle, there is nothing complicated about this.

Usually changing the default search in the browser occurs without problems. But what if this is absolutely impossible to do and every time after changing the main search engine, it changes again to something else.

In this case, the most logical explanation is that your PC is infected with a virus. To remove it, you can use any antivirus tool like Malwarebytes AntiMalware.

After cleaning the system from malware, the problem with the inability to change the search engine in the browser should disappear.

Today's article is about how to set default search engine for browser. This should not be confused with the home page. Let's talk about the omnibox.

Omnibox– this is the address bar, by entering the URL into which you are taken to the site.

All modern browsers support the search function from the address bar. If you enter a phrase in the omnibox, you will automatically be redirected to the results of the installed search engine.

Most people only use one search engine. As a rule, Yandex or Google. Sometimes due to an aggressive policy of integrating its product onto users’ computers – Mail.ru. And even Amigo.

But not everyone knows what can be done so that when you make a request in the address bar, the desired search engine opens.

But this is very convenient. You can remove unnecessary links in the search chain and save your time.

In addition, the setup itself is very simple.

Change the search engine for the omnibox in Google Chrome

The default search engine in Google Chrome is Google.. This can be changed in your browser settings. To do this, follow simple instructions:

As you can see, only Google, Bing and Yandex are available. If none of them suits you, go to "Search Engine Management". There you can add a new one.

How to do it:

  1. Enter the name of the search engine in the input field "Add system";
  2. Enter any keyword, for example needsite ;
  3. Open the desired search engine and search for the word needsite;
  4. Copy the address from the address bar. In Mail.ru it will be like this: http://go.mail.ru/search?q=needsite. And in Rambler.ru - http://nova.rambler.ru/search?query=needsite;
  5. Next in the address you should replace needsite with %s . That is, in the final version it should look like this: http://go.mail.ru/search?q=%s and http://nova.rambler.ru/search?query=%s;
  6. Paste the resulting link into the last field and click "Ready".

With such simple manipulations you can make Yandex and Google the main search engine or any other.

Setting up a search engine for the omnibox in Opera

Technology changes to the starting search engine in the combined search bar of Opera is no different from that already described for Google Chrome:

Since Yandex Browser, like Google Chrome and Opera, is based on chromium, the procedure default search engine settings will be identical.

The use of search engines has become part of everyday human activity. You get used to a certain information search service like your favorite tea.

Many users change the browser installed in their operating system to a faster one, but the search engine used does not always suit them. In this article we will tell you how to change the default search engine in Opera to your favorite one.

Search in Opera

Search in the Opera browser is designed in a rather unique way, and is carried out from several places:

  • Home page. For the Russian-language segment of the Internet, the search engine indicated is Yandex;
  • Address bar. All modern browsers support processing the search query entered into it. The default here is Google;
  • A special search box next to the address bar. It also uses Google.

Let's figure out the settings and install a unified search system.

For Yandex fans

Let's install the Yandex service as the main information search tool. In the main Opera window, a fragment of which is visible in the screenshot, in the upper right corner, you see three horizontal lines. This icon hides the home page settings.

We are interested in the lower part of this tab, which allows you to edit browser settings.

In the page that opens, select “Browser” and find the area responsible for managing search engines. By clicking the button of the same name, you will open a selection window in which Yandex is located in second place.

Select “Set as default”. Exit the settings, returning to the home page.

The result of the actions taken is clearly visible in the screenshot. The search engine in Opera in all areas has been changed to Yandex.

Google fans

Not everyone likes Yandex, so to change it to Google we’ll go to the settings again. In this case, our task will be to remove the Yandex search area from the home page. As you remember, in other places Google is installed by default. When you get to the general settings, pay attention to the lower left corner.

Check the "Show advanced settings" box. At the same time, check which search engine is set for the address bar. In case you used the first part of our recommendations and changed it to Yandex. Let's go back to the settings of the initial page.

After our manipulations, additional parameters appeared on it. We uncheck the “Search field” item and get rid of Yandex. The Start page now displays only sites that you select for frequent use.

As you can see in the screenshot, the additional search area has been removed, and Google is used as the main tool for obtaining information on the Internet.

For exotic lovers

Let's pay attention to users who are not satisfied with both search engines. There are two options that you can use in this case. Firstly, you can use search sites that are additionally preinstalled in the browser:

  • Rambler;
  • DuckDuckGo;

The actions, in this case, will be a combination of those described in the two previous sections. We remove the Yandex line from the initial page, and in the settings we change Google to the search engine of your choice.

Secondly, you can set your own settings to use the search engine that suits you. For example, let's look at creating our own query in Yahoo. Open the main page of the site.

You need to enter some noticeable word into the request form, let it be “diamond”. We will need it at the next stage of our actions. Let's give Yahoo the opportunity to process the request and then completely copy the entire contents of the browser's address bar.

Go to the search engine settings and select “Create”

Let's prepare our own query system for the Yahoo search engine. We write down the name and key that we will use in the future to enable it. Paste everything that you copied from the address bar into the “Address” field. We are looking for the word we entered for processing in this mixture of characters.

Carefully replace “diamond” with the characters “%s”, without quotes. Your template is ready. Now you can use it to search for information. For example, let’s find data for the query “corundum”. In the address bar, enter “I am corundum.”

The result can be seen in the screenshot. Using the “I” key we set, Yahoo is turned on, as can be seen from the icon that appears in the address field. The result of such a request, regardless of which search engine is set by default, will be processed on the selected site.

You can do a similar operation with any page you select. You can use any convenient word as a key.

Removing an extra field

Finally, let’s get rid of the extra field that we have behind the address bar. This is an amateur setting; some people like to enter queries directly into the address space, while others like to enter them in a separate field.

Again, go to the settings and enable additional fields there, as we did when removing the Yandex line. In the “Browser” section, go down to the “User Interface” group.

The enabled additional settings are highlighted in Opera with gray dots, making them easy to highlight and distinguish from the standard ones. We remove the check mark from the bottom line, which can be seen in the given screenshot.

Now, after all your manipulations with the settings, to request information on the Internet, you only have the address line itself.

Finally

We took a tour of the settings of the Opera browser and looked at how to change the search engine specified in it to any one you like or how to create your own. We will assume that now you will not have any problems solving this problem, and you will find any information in a matter of seconds. Happy searching!

How to make Yandex the default search? This question is asked by many inexperienced Internet users, and in this article everyone can find the answer to the question. This is done differently in different browsers. For example, this is much easier to do in Google Chrome than in Explorer or Mozilla. Let's take an example of the four most popular browsers.

and here you will get the result:

Why, after restarting the browser, the settings were lost again, and “Yandex” is no longer the default search?

If you experience problems changing your search engine too often, then you are being “terrorized” by a virus. Such software cannot be called very malicious, because it only changes your browser settings. However, there is no need to endure inconvenience - get rid of it.

The constant change of settings is usually influenced by a certain “[email protected]” or “[email protected]”. Uninstall this program from your computer using the Control Panel. You should also remove this software from startup.

Typically, these programs are installed automatically during the installation of other software. For example, you decided to download Skype, started the installation and discovered during the installation that programs from mail.ru were being installed. This means that you have downloaded a repack with a virus; when installing it, you should uncheck commands that do not need to be executed, for example, “Set mail.ru as default search.
