Effects in sony vegas pro 11. How to add effects in Sony Vegas

and effects

Let's say we need to make some part of the video black and white. To do this, you need to apply the “Black and White” video effect to it. There are several ways to do this.

For example, you can click the “Event FX” button on the video fragment to which you want to apply the effect (Fig. 2).

Figure 2. “Event FX” button.

In the window that opens, select the desired video effect and click “OK” (Fig. 3).

Figure 3. Selecting the Sony Vegas video effect.

After this, the “Video Event FX” window will open, which is a video effects editor (Fig. 4)

Figure 4. Video effect settings.

Each video effect has its own settings, which can be changed depending on the task at hand.

In our case, the “Black and White” video effect, which allows you to make the video black and white, has only one setting - “Blend amount”. It allows you to set the intensity of the effect. If you move the slider all the way to the right, the video will become completely black and white. If not completely, the video will lose color as you move the slider from left to right, but some shades will remain the same.

To customize the video effect, you can also use ready-made presets (templates). To select a template, you need to click on the triangle in the Preset field and select the desired template from the drop-down list (Fig. 5).

Figure 5. Selecting a template.

There are several other ways to apply the effect to a video fragment. For example, you can click on a clip right button mouse and select the “Video Event FX...” command from the drop-down list (Fig. 6)

Figure 6. Selecting a template.

But the most convenient way is to go to the Video FX tab in the “Tab Window”, select the desired Sony Vegas effect, and then drag one of the proposed presets onto the clip to which you want to apply it (Fig. 7).

Figure 7. Adding a video effect by dragging.

The last option is good because it allows you to apply a video effect to several video fragments at once.

Apply a video effect to multiple video segments

When working with video effects in Sony Vegas, sooner or later you will ask yourself the question: “How to insert a video effect onto several clips at once?” To do this, you just need to select the desired clips and move the preset of the selected video effect to one of them.

To select multiple clips on the Timeline, Sony Vegas uses the same selection methods as Windows Explorer.

For example, you can hold down the Ctrl key and click the left mouse button to select separate clips. For example, if you need to select the second, fifth and seventh clips, then you need to use this method (Fig. 8).

Figure 8. Selecting separate clips.

If you need to remove the selection from one of the selected clips, then you must also left-click on it while holding the Ctrl key.

In order to select several clips in a row, it is convenient to use Shift key. For example, if you want to select clips 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, then you need to left-click (hold Shift) only on the first and last clip in the sequence. In this case, these are clip No. 2 and clip No. 6 (Fig. 9).

Figure 9. Selecting consecutive clips.

If you need to select all the clips on the timeline, you can simultaneously press Ctrl and English key"A". This way, all the video clips will be selected and you can apply the video effect to all the clips at once.

Applying a video effect to everything or anything

If your project contains a large number of video fragments to which you need to apply the same video effect, do not rush to press Ctrl + A or use other methods for selecting clips.

It is better to take advantage of the other opportunity provided Sony program Vegas - applies a video effect to a track.

If you apply an effect to a track, then all video fragments that fall on it will also use the installed video effect. This way, when you want a clip to have a video effect, you simply place it on this track, and if you want to use a clip without a video effect, you put it on another track.

To apply an effect to a track, you need to move the video effect template to the track header, or click the “Track FX” button (ibid.) (Fig. 10).

Figure 10. Overlaying a video effect on a track.

If necessary, you can also assign one or more video effects to the entire Sony Vegas project. To do this, click the “Video Output FX” button in the preview window (Fig. 11), and in the dialog that opens, hold down the Ctrl key and select the desired effects. After this, you need to click the “Add” button and then “OK”.

Figure 11. Applying a video effect to the entire project.

The selected video effects will affect the entire Sony project Vegas.

Video effects editor “Video Event FX”

Every time we added an effect, the video effects editor window opened in front of us - “Video Event FX”. We already know that with the help of this tool, we can change the settings of a specific video effect, or select one of the ready-made presets.

Now let's briefly look at other editor features that were not explored in previous chapters.

The top line is used to organize video effects (see Fig. 12).

Figure 12. Sony Vegas video effects editor.

If several effects were applied to a video fragment and you need to change the settings of one of them, then we open the “Video Event FX” window and top line Left-click on the name of the video effect whose settings you want to change.

Before the name of each Sony Vegas video effect, we see a checkmark, which means that the effect is enabled. If you uncheck it, the video effect will be disabled and will not affect the clip until we check the box again.

If you need to remove the video effect permanently, you can simply click the “Remove Selected Plug-in” button (remove the selected plug-in) (Fig. 12).

All Sony Vegas video effects act on the clip sequentially - in the order in which we see them in the “Video Event FX” window (from left to right). Sometimes the order of video effects matters.

For example, we want to make the video black and white, and at the same time we still need to “cut through” green color using er. If the "Black and White" video effect comes first, the video will become black and white before the "er" takes effect. And since black and white video does not contain green, we will not be able to make the green areas of the video transparent.

So we'll select the "Chroma Keyer" plugin and move it to the left so it's in front of the "Black and White" plugin. Thus, Sony Vegas will first “cut” the video in green, and only then make the remaining video black and white.

The “Preset” field, as I already said, is used to select ready-made template settings. If you have changed the effect settings, and in the future you may need to use a video effect with the same settings, then we have the ability to save these settings into your own preset.

To do this, you need to enter the name of the new template in the “Preset” text field and click on the “Save Preset” button (Fig. 12).

The Animate button (in the lower left corner) allows you to access the keyframe editor. Using keyframes, we can change the settings of video effects over time, thus creating an animation of the video effect.

I have already talked in detail about the use of key frames in the "" Sony Vegas lesson, and I will not repeat it here.

Sony Vegas Pro has a wide range standard tools. But did you know that it can be expanded even further. This is done using plugins. Let's look at what plugins are and how to use them.

A plugin is an addition (extension of capabilities) for any program on your computer, for example Sony Vegas, or a website engine on the Internet. It is very difficult for developers to provide for all the wishes of users, so they make it possible third party developers satisfy these wishes by writing plugins (from the English plugin).
