Audio systems (speakers) designed for iPods and other MP3 players can now be used with some phones.

Many of us have an entire music collection in an audio player, be it a hard drive or flash memory model. On the way to work or during a morning jog, headphones help us out, but if it comes to, for example, listening to music at home, then an audio system will come to the rescue.

Portability, design, batteries and more

Many of these mini audio systems operate on batteries, but can also be powered from the mains. Most of them are designed specifically for the iPod and have a docking station for it. When the system is plugged in, the iPod will charge. Users who own other players will also not be left out, since the audio systems in question have a corresponding additional mini-jack.

Given the compactness of systems designed for portability and battery operation, they seem to have to sacrifice sound quality (especially if you have to use a mini-jack rather than a dedicated dock), but some products managed to surprise us.

Altec Lansing's Moondance GLOW is described as a high-performance music system for the iPod. This compact audio system with alarm clock features a wireless snooze remote control and mood lighting.

Scope of delivery and design

Inside the box you will find the system itself, a remote control and two strange devices in the form of pyramids without tops. One of these devices is a separate snooze remote, and the other is a receiver that connects to the Moondance GLOW at the back. The design of the system is quite luxurious, with a modernized retro style. The glossy black body is slightly angled back, and when Moondance is turned on, an orange backlight is visible. The remote controls are made in the same style.

Touch buttons are located on the top. Each button is responsible for one function. The main remote control allows you to control all functions, while the second snooze remote allows you to turn off the alarm and can also be used to play or pause music. Those who like to hit the alarm clock in the morning will be very pleased, because thanks to the shape of the remote control, the palm fits perfectly on it. Thanks to the auxiliary input, Moondance GLOW can be connected to a second audio source. It is also possible to connect an FM antenna. A USB port would be nice, but unfortunately it is missing.

Sound quality

The Moondance GLOW audio system is equipped with two 3" speakers with a full frequency range, which are very different from those usually found in alarm clocks. For such a compact device, the sound quality is good. The sound is clear, clean, well-balanced and powerful. In this regard, it is difficult to say about the Moondance GLOW something bad, except that the bass is weak, but can two 3" speakers produce the same bass as a 15" subwoofer? After all, this is an alarm clock that should wake you up in the morning, and not “blow up” the party!

We liked Moondance GLOW in every way. The only downside is that this audio system can only be used as a docking station for an iPod.

Advantages.

  • Design;
  • sound quality;
  • touch buttons.

Flaws.

  • Dock for iPod only.

Moondance GLOW is a compact audio system for iPod with alarm function, wireless snooze remote control and mood lighting. This product perfectly combines cute design, ease of use and sound quality.

Klipsch is a high-end brand that has recently begun to enter the consumer audio market. Naturally, the company had to release its own audio system for the iPod. Let's see how she did it.

Design

Klipsch loves good design, which is once again confirmed by the iGroove audio system, which can fit seamlessly into any apartment. However, the manufacturer slightly overdid it with minimalism: I would like to have more buttons and functions. iGroove is equipped with only an on/off button and two keys for adjusting the volume.

A very small remote control is included in the package, so don't lose it. There is an additional audio input and S-video output.

Sound quality

The sound quality is what disappointed us the most! High frequencies are clearly lacking, although mids and lows are quite pleasant. Despite good bass, overall the sound is not enjoyable. The iGroove SXT will look cute in your room, that's all. Doesn't look like a company that specializes in high-end hi-fi equipment.

Advantages.

  • Nice design.

Flaws.

  • Sound quality;
  • lack of high frequencies;
  • Not enough functions and settings.

The Klipsch iGroove SXT has an excellent design, but it's a pity that the manufacturer neglected the sound quality.

The ILuv acoustics really love the iPod. And to such an extent that it contains two docking stations: you can install your iPod and iPhone next to each other!

Design

The iMM 173 is a bulky audio system, but it still remains stylish thanks to its beautiful design and quality black finish. The top panel contains various buttons (volume control, FM radio, etc.) and settings. You can set two alarm clocks and choose for each the melody from which source you want to wake up: radio, iPod or iPhone. Navigating the menu is very simple, and the remote control is also easy to operate.

The cool thing is that you can dock and charge either two iPods or one iPod and an iPhone. A special button allows you to switch from one device to another, the same can be done from the remote control. If the iPhone rings, you will hear the ringing through the speakers.

Sound quality

The sound quality is nothing special. There is no point in raising the volume because the sound will be too distorted. Overall the harmony is quite good, but not admirable. Bass is present, although at times it seems strange. Of course, the sound quality of the iLuv iMM 173 is not Hi-Fi level, but as a music alarm clock this audio system works well.

Advantages.

  • Two docking stations;
  • ease of use;
  • good sound quality.

Flaws.

  • Bulky;
  • It's better not to turn up the volume.

The iLuv iMM 173 is an Apple fan's dream because it works with both iPhone and iPod.

Traditional speaker docking stations for iPod/iPhone are gradually losing their popularity among owners of Apple devices, and all due to the rapid expansion of the range of Bluetooth speakers. But if you still want to enjoy streaming music and charge your device at the same time, this is the device you need.

In fact, you will be surprised to learn that you can buy quite good acoustics for up to 13,000 rubles, including multifunctional devices from recognized brands that have stood the test of time and are still popular.

Weight: 2.2 kg | Dimensions: 356×168.1×155.8 mm | Bluetooth: yes |

So, it offers you excellent sound quality, a durable design, and an OLED screen that displays hands-free mode, FM radio frequency, and equalizer settings. It even comes with a remote control that allows you to switch between equalizer modes, adjust the volume and play music.

Even the latest iPhone models work perfectly with this docking station. There's also iPad connectivity, as well as an auxiliary cable tucked into the back. And given that this model costs half as much as its RRP predecessor, we have no reason to write it off because of its “age.” Oh yeah, we forgot to mention, it also supports Bluetooth connectivity.

Weight: 2.3 kg | Dimensions: 241×241×241 mm | Bluetooth: yes |

Pros: elegant design
Cons: no remote control

When creating this model, the Studio 5 developers were clearly inspired by furniture design, as can be seen from the appearance of the docking station. It offers clear, even sound that can easily fill a living room, and it comes with a button that allows you to choose from three bass settings.

At the top of the unit you can find an elegant charging station with a glass stand for your phone, volume control and playback control buttons. If you want to use your iPhone, the station supports Bluetooth. It also offers the aptX codec and connection of two devices at once.

Cons: Plastic design, no Bluetooth

By pressing the touch button on the top of the station, you can easily fill a medium-sized room with superb rich, clear, bass-rich sound. The sound comes from the back, as this is where the membrane is located, where you can also find the cable and 3.5 mm headphone jack.

Weight: 12 kg | Dimensions: 318×422×380 mm | Bluetooth: yes |

Pros: very loud, durable
Cons: heavy design

Create your own carnival with this one-of-a-kind iPod dock! Essentially, this is a mobile speaker that offers an incredible number of connection options, including Bluetooth, USB, RCA, standard AUX-in, 6.3 mm jack and XLR microphone input. And, of course, a Lightning charging dock.

The station offers a three-channel mixer (you can play music from more than one device), five-hour battery life, a retractable handle, built-in wheels, and a durable MDF/epoxy body that makes it suitable for outdoor use. So if you're looking for a device that can fill a room with music or sound off a party on the beach, then this is exactly what you need.

Weight: 2.2 kg | Dimensions: 165×290×125 mm | Bluetooth: yes |

Pros: remote control, easy to set up
Cons: dim display

Pure put a lot of thought into this 20-watt speaker. It comes with 30-pin and Lightning adapters that slot into the dock tray (can be hidden when not in use).

This model also supports Bluetooth connectivity, and offers DAB and FM radio. True, the screen could be better; in this station it is a little dim. The kit also comes with a remote control. In general, if you are looking for rich, crisp and clear sound, then you have come to the right place.

Weight: 2.6 kg | Dimensions: 100×320×180 mm | Bluetooth: no |

Pros: AirPlay support, stylish design
Cons: Expensive, limited support for non-Apple devices

Featuring a curved, compact, glass-reinforced body, this iPod station offers well-balanced bass and a decent soundstage that can easily fill a medium-sized room with music.

AirPlay is rare in third-party audio devices, but the Z2 supports this wireless protocol, so you don't even have to plug in your iPhone to connect to it (you can use the Bowers & Wilkins Control app or the built-in Ethernet port to set up the connection) .

Once you've paired your devices, the Z2 will delight you with sound quality, thanks to DSP that reduces distortion to an absolute minimum no matter what volume you listen to your music at.

The USB connector will allow you to recharge your iOS device, but will not “read” the flash drive. The battery life is 8 hours and the Bluetooth 2.1 version used is a bit disappointing.

Apple iPod Classic MP3 player review

In its sixth incarnation, the iPod received a solid Classic prefix. He received it well deservedly, because over the years of its existence it had already truly become a classic of jukeboxes. Other models experimented with the form factor, they were at the forefront of the fight for a new audience, a fight that was successful for the company and made it a market leader. Comparative review of Creative Zen Stone and Apple iPod Shuffle MP3 players

As soon as the first news about Creative Zen Stone appeared, it became obvious that this player would compete in the market with the second generation iPod Shuffle, which means that this comparison will sooner or later appear on our website. Judge for yourself: until recently, the segment of players without a display was clearly dominated by both generations of Shuffle and their numerous Chinese clones. None of the “top ten” manufacturers seriously tried to compete for a place in this market, despite all its attractiveness. What does it consist of?
