Connecting a computer and TV via wireless communication (Wi Fi). We connect the TV to the Internet via a network cable (LAN)

Hello! In this article I will tell you how you can connect your computer to your TV via Wi-Fi, and why you should do it at all. We will consider connecting through a router, when a computer, or laptop, and a TV are simply connected to the same Wi-Fi network. As a rule, they connect the TV to a computer via a wireless network to view videos and photos on the TV via.

I'll tell you how it works. We have a router that distributes a Wi-Fi network. We connect the TV to this network and connect our laptop. On a laptop, using a special program, we launch the DLNA server, open general access to films, photos and music that are stored on the computer, and from the TV we simply start playing or viewing the file we need. Exactly the same scheme will work when connected via a network cable. I have already written articles on configuration, I will provide links to the articles below.

And if you have an Android TV, you can broadcast tabs from the Chrome browser and videos from YouTube using Google Cast technology. All this is also via Wi-Fi. I wrote in the article how to set this up.

Setting up a wireless connection between a TV and a laptop

Nothing complicated. You must have a Wi-Fi router, a Wi-Fi-enabled TV, and a laptop or computer with .

I think your computer is already connected to your wireless network. We connect our TV to the same Wi-Fi. Here are the instructions for connecting, and a separate one.

After everything is connected, we need to start the DLNA server on the laptop:

  • If you have an LG TV, then I recommend using the proprietary Smart Share program. See detailed setup instructions -.
  • For Samsung TVs there is also a proprietary program - AllShare.
  • You can also set up a server without third-party programs. In Windows Media Player. I showed how to do this in the article. Using Windows 10 as an example.
  • But it’s best to use the universal program “Home Media Server (UPnP, DLNA, HTTP)”. I also wrote separate instructions for setting up this program: . Do not pay attention that the article was written using Philips TVs as an example. Suitable for any TV.

According to this scheme, everything works fine. But, if you have a budget router, or the Wi-Fi speed is not very high, then large movies on the TV may not play back very smoothly. Stop all the time, etc. In this case, I advise you to connect to the router via a network cable, or better yet, . In addition, the desktop and everything that happens on the laptop screen will be output to the TV via HDMI.

Some users still remember the times when watching new films and videos on the Internet was a trump card for a home computer. Times have changed and now watching movies and TV series has become much more convenient with the advent of various options for connecting a home computer (laptop) to a TV.

Watching videos on a big screen is much more convenient and interesting, but for this, the TV should ideally support Smart TV technologies or at least have an HDMI port. A router would also be useful. If your TV does not support SmartTV technology, do not rush to change it.

With the help of a laptop or PC, any LCD TV can be turned into a source of multimedia entertainment. All you need to do is connect it to your computer. This can be done in three ways.

Method 1. Connecting the TV to a laptop (PC) via Wi-Fi (wireless connection).

A method that does not require the use of additional cables, because video and audio signals are transmitted via radio waves. The TV must have a built-in Wi-Fi adapter or the ability to connect an external device to receive the signal (via a USB connector).

We use Intel WiDi technology.

This technology allows you to broadcast a picture from a PC monitor or laptop to a TV. In this case, the computer must be equipped with at least a second or third generation Intel Core processor, as well as a Wi-Fi adapter made by Intel. The TV must also support WiDi technology.

  • activate the WiDi function on TV;
  • On the PC we launch the Intel Wireless Display program, which will search for available TVs. The program may request a connection code. The TV will display it when it detects the signal source.

If your TV does not have a WiDi function, you can expand the functionality of the TV receiver by purchasing a special Miracast adapter. This device will perform the function of receiving a signal.

We use a Wi-Fi TV set-top box.

Using the following gadgets, you can not only equip your TV with an analogue of Smart TV, but also receive a wireless signal from your laptop:

  • Android Mini PC (allows you to broadcast images from any Android devices);
  • Intel Compute Stick;
  • Google Chromecast (supports streaming from various devices).

For everything to work, the laptop must have software installed depending on the selected TV set-top box. The image is transferred in a few clicks directly in the window of this program.

Method 2. We use DLNA technology to connect a laptop or computer to a TV.

The essence of the technology is to create a home media server, the connecting link of which is a router with DLNA support. The laptop will act as a server. The technology allows you to view media content (photos, videos, films, music, iptv, online TV) from a server on your TV. How to set up a home media server, steps to create a DLNA connection:

  1. Connect the TV to the router via a LAN cable or Wi-Fi;
  2. Connect your computer to the router (we also use a LAN cable or Wi-Fi connection).
  3. Share files on your PC. First, we open general access to those disks where the media files are located: right-click on the disk - “properties” - “Access” tab - “Advanced settings”. In the window that opens, select the “share…” option.
  4. Go to Windows Explorer and open the “Network” item. In the window you will see the text “Network discovery and sharing...” highlighted in yellow marker, by clicking on which you can completely open access to all drives on the laptop.
  5. Now you can view any files from your TV using the appropriate function (on LG TV - SmartShare, on Sony - Homestream or the “Movies”, “Music” sections). You need to select the source for viewing media files, which is a computer.

Method 3. Use an HDMI cable to connect.

One of the easiest methods to get a picture from your computer desktop or laptop. All you need is to connect the HDMI connectors of your PC and TV using a cable. Then on the laptop, using the desktop settings (display settings), you need to select the monitor to which the image will be transferred.

HDMI technology allows you to transmit both sound and video over one cable, which makes connecting devices much easier. An HDMI cable has sufficient bandwidth to transmit high-quality video and audio signals in digital format. Standard 1.4a and later modifications of the cable support output in Full HD, Ultra HD (4K) and all 3D content formats.

When connecting via HDMI, there may be problems with sound on the TV. If there is no sound on the TV via an HDMI connection, you need to configure the playback devices on your laptop or computer. To do this, depending on the version of Windows (I have Windows 10), you need to do approximately the following.

There is no sound via HDMI on the TV, what to do:

If you want only the image to be output to the TV via HDMI, and the sound to be played on the speakers of a laptop or computer, set the required default output device, as in the instructions above.

Conclusion: Wireless connection is the most convenient from the point of view of home aesthetics, cables do not clutter up the space, both devices can be located in different rooms. Connecting with a cable is a simpler and more reliable method, but can create temporary inconvenience for residents. In terms of picture quality, it is still preferable to choose a good HDMI cable; you will also need it when watching 3D movies on TV.

Few users of modern TVs know that you can easily and quickly transfer photos, video and audio from a computer to a TV without using special wires (HDMI cables).

Wireless connection between computer and TV

A couple of years ago, when buying a TV, I simultaneously purchased a long, high-quality and expensive HDMI cable, so as not to carry around with a flash drive and establish a direct connection between the “box” and the computer, for convenient movie watching and photos (slideshow).

Imagine my surprise when a week ago I finally noticed (not even three years had passed) in the context menu of the video file to the “mysterious” item - “Transfer to device”...

I clicked on my detected device and “teleported” the film to the TV without any wires, media servers, settings or other dances with tambourines. How is this possible? I'll tell you now.

In order not to waste the time of some users, I will list 3 mandatory conditions for wirelessly transferring media files to a modern brainwashing tool...

...or did you think that everything is decided by the power of thought?

  1. This “magic” happens thanks to Wi-Fi technology, so the most important condition is that you have this network created by a regular Wi-Fi router (with horns).
  2. Your favorite TV and computer must have built-in or external wi-fi adapters. Most smart TVs and laptops have it by default.
  3. The Windows Media video player built into the operating system must play (“understand”) your video.

The most important condition is the second one - the rest are easily solvable. Most people already have a Wi-Fi router, and if they don’t, it costs a penny. With the system player everything is also simple - codecs to help you.

I have modern Windows 10 installed with current update- no problems with codecs, playback of mkv files, etc. It didn’t occur to me. Everything worked immediately and without problems. I had to tinker a little with my wife’s computer (Windows 7) and install some codecs.

So, let's go...

Connecting your TV to your computer wirelessly

Right-click on the network icon in the taskbar (in the tray)…

...and go to the “Network and Sharing Center”. By the way, you can get to your destination through the usual system control panel.

...and enable network discovery in your current network profile...

After that, in the same window, open the “All networks” tab and check (configure) the media streaming settings...

The wireless connection between the TV and the computer has been established - now you can safely watch movies from the computer wirelessly. The broadcast is provided by the built-in Windows Media Player (as it turned out in the advertisement - the sponsor of our program...)...

By the way, numerous family photos You can also show it to friends and relatives this way...

Let's look at how you can connect your TV to a computer or laptop via a LAN cable directly, without using a modem/router/router.

First of all, you need the TV to have a LAN output and support DLNA.

The same output should be in a laptop or computer. Also, we must have a network cable with RJ45 connectors, which are used when connecting to LAN ports. You will need it to connect the TV and computer to each other.

Any media server must be installed on the computer. Below in the image you can see the most popular media servers. Tutorials on how to install them are available on the Internet.

After we have installed and connected everything, we find an icon on the taskbar on the right, as in the image below.

This icon indicates the presence/absence of a network.

Right-click on this icon and select “Network and Sharing Center.”

If you do not have such an icon, then go to the Start menu. Select "Control Panel". Next, go to “Network and Sharing Center”.

As a result, we end up on the same page as with the first method.

We get to the next window. In it, select the “Local Area Connection” icon.

Right-click on the icon. In the context menu that appears, select the “Properties” section. Here we select the subsection “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)”.

Click on the “Properties” button, which is located just below to the right.

In the lines below you will need to enter the following values. See the image below.

In the line under number 1 “IP address” enter 192.168.0.1

In the line under number 2 “Subnet mask” enter 255.255.255.0

In the line under number 3 “Preferred DNS server” enter 192.168.0.1

Click the “OK” button.

After completing the setup, we check that the media server is running. Next we move on to the TV.

Hello! In this article, we will look in great detail at the process of setting up a DLNA server on a computer or laptop that runs on Windows 7, 8, or Windows 10. We will set up DLNA for a TV, so that you can watch movies on the LG TV that are on the computer (and also look at photos and listen to music). And all this over Wi-Fi, or when connected via a network cable. In this article we will look at LG TVs with the Smart TV function, or simply with DLNA support. By the way, Smart TV can be either an older version or a new one - Web OS, on which all new LG TVs with support for smart functions run.

In the case of DLNA, only the movie itself or photo will be displayed on the TV. Well, the music will play. The entire desktop, folders, etc. will not be displayed. To do this, you need to connect via HDMI or wireless technology.

Setting up DLNA using Smart Share

The first method is to set up DLNA using the proprietary Smart Share program, which we need to download and install on your computer. You can download the Smart Share program from the official website: http://www.lg.com/ua/support/smart-share. The size is approximately 182 MB, the version at the time of writing is 2.3.1507.2802.

Download the archive with the program and start the installation by running the file setup.exe from the archive. Installation is very simple, there is a Russian language. Don't change anything, just click Next.

You can launch the program using a shortcut on your desktop. Smart Share, by the way, will start automatically when you turn on the computer.

Advice! Autorun is performed through the Windows task scheduler (Computer Management/Utilities/Task Scheduler/Task Scheduler Library/[File - SmartShare][Status - Ready][Triggers - When the computer turns on]).
If you delete this task, autoloading will no longer occur!

Thanks to TVZ, I suggested it in the comments.

After launching Smart Share, in the notification panel (bottom right corner) icon will appear. Right-click on it and select .

Immediately set the switch to position ON And press the button Apply.

By doing this, we share files on your computer so that they can be displayed and opened on the LG TV. If you later want to close file sharing, simply set the switch to OFF.

Next, go to the main tab My shared files. Here you can specify which folders or drives will be available on the TV. That is, for example, we can add only one folder with movies, photos, or music. Or open access to a local disk.

By default, shared folders are already added. To add the folders we need, click a special button and select the folders or drives to which we want to share access. For example, I opened only the Movies folder, which is located on drive D. When you select the desired folders, click Ok. Then, click on the button Apply.

You can delete unnecessary folders by simply highlighting it and pressing the special button. You can open access to new folders.

On the tab My device settings, you can change the name of your DLNA server that will be displayed on the TV. Or you can leave it as standard.

Well, the last tab Allow/block other devices. On this tab, you should see your TV. If it is turned on and connected to the same network as the laptop.

You can block the desired device. If, for example, you have two TVs at home, and you do not want to share files with one of them.

That's all the Smart Share settings. Press the button again Apply And Ok. If in the future you want to open new folders or delete them, you can do this in the settings, as I showed above. The Smart Share icon will appear in the notification panel.

We start watching a movie from a computer on an LG TV

After setting up the program, it’s time to launch a movie on the TV that is located on the computer in the folder we opened. Go to Smart TV (on old remotes, this is the blue button). Then, look for and select the item there Smart Share.

But new models with WebOS, it looks something like this:

If you don’t see a DLNA server on your TV, but Smart Share is configured correctly on your computer, and the computer and TV are connected to the same network, then first try disabling your antivirus or firewall. Then check your Smart Share settings and restart your computer and TV. Also, be sure to make sure that the TV is connected to your router.

Open the folder we need and launch a movie, photo, or song.

That's all. By opening the tabs: Videos, Photos and Music, which can be seen on the TV, all content will be displayed, for example video, which will be found in all open folders on the computer.

Other Smart Share features: control movie playback on your computer

I showed you only the settings of the Smart Share program. There is also the ability to control the playback of videos, music, or viewing photos directly from your computer (laptop). To do this, just right-click on the program icon (bottom right corner) and choose Open Smart Share.

A small window will appear in which you need to select MOVIE, PHOTO, or MUSIC. In principle, it makes no difference. You can switch between types of content in the program itself.

A window will open with a list of, for example, Movies (if you selected the MOVIE tab). The program will display all the videos that were found in the folders that we added during the setup process (see above). To start watching a movie (photo, or song playback) on an LG TV, just right-click on the file we need and select Play with, And name of your TV. Let me remind you that it must be turned on and connected to the same network as the computer.

Playback will start immediately on the TV. A new window will appear on your computer in which you can control playback.

As you can see, it is not at all necessary to search for a movie on the TV itself.

The program itself has many more interesting features. For example, you can add movies to a playlist. Put them in a queue. It's all simple, I think you'll figure it out. If you ate anything, ask questions in the comments.

Possible problems when watching movies via DLNA on TV

The computer does not see the TV, and the TV does not see the computer. What to do? Check the connection on your computer and TV. They must be connected through the same router. Disable the antivirus or firewall on your computer (temporarily). Restart your devices.

When watching big movies, everything slows down and freezes, what's the problem? The problem may be that there is not enough speed. Very often, this occurs when watching movies over a Wi-Fi network. Try connecting using a network cable. If the films are very large and in good quality, then you can watch them from an external hard drive or flash drive. You can also connect via . Yes, not by air, but reliably.

In fact, the setup is very quick and easy. This is just me describing everything :) If you have any questions, ask in the comments. And don’t forget to share tips on the topic. How does DLNA technology work on your LG TV, how do you use it, what movies do you watch?
